Buying and insuring an MC

Hi can I legally buy and insure an MC here in California. I’m starting my own MC under my own business but was told it’s better to just buy one already aged.
I did my research and saw that the FMCSA announced they are cracking down on people buying MC’s and also another one said I wouldn’t be able to get insurance on it.
I don’t know what’s true and what’s not. Did I mess up by starting my own MC and not just buying one already aged?

Hey insurance broker here! MC's are illegal to buy. The FMSCA stated recently that purchasing already aged MC's has and always be a black line for carriers. We as broker do our upmost to avoid chameleon accounts such as these. Avoiding this makes everyones job easier.

So you just gotta bite the bullet as a fresh MC pretty much? Heard brokers dont like working with fresh MCs either

Yep, gotta stay by the system like everyone else. Brokers sometimes dont like working with fresh MCs due to the fact that they have no way to evaluate their risk scores, that is in part why its hard to get good insurance and good loads.

there's a ton of red tape in there, because trading them for the purpose of falsifying legitimacy/lowering insurance rates is illegal, but selling them as part of a legitimate business merge or other acquisition is legal. you said yourself you're doing it to get cheaper insurance, so what you're looking to do is a crime.

No I would be doing it to get better rates. Rather than waiting a year to age mine

also a crime.
