Don't you like it when a country with a minimum wage at 2000 buys gas with less cost than you making 800?
View on Reddit #85923577

And remember, minimum wages are not common in those highly developed countries, unlike in the Balkans where at least 80% of the population lives on it because of the inherently abusive employers.

Oddly enough though, Romania is one of the oldest producers of oil. Before places like Iraq, the Saudis and Libya. Though the explanation for this mess is more complicated than that.

View on Reddit #85680792

Ok_Win8049@reddit

For Serbia it's just highway robbery with the tax that comes along with it. The same mentality could probably be found in Albania or Greece, it's just that Serbia is the champ of being the worst at this. We always point to countries like Croatia and Slovenia as countries with a better standard of living and cheaper fuel. There's also a lot of border-hopping. Plenty of Serbs living on the border of Bosnia hop over to refuel because it's much cheaper then here. The same thing occurs with groceries with people hoping into Croatia.

pure_skill_@reddit

View on Reddit #85654549

Ok_Win8049@reddit

I highly doubt that, at least not if we just compare Zagreb and Belgrade. In fact I'd say they seem closer to one anotehr, which is worse in Serbia's case since our standard of living is lower. Combine that with the prices of stuff at the grocery, and I'm fairly certain that the average person in Croatia has a higher purchasing power than the average person in Serbia.
View on Reddit #85655335

Prestigious-Shine240@reddit

so what are the benefits in living in Serbia vs Croatia?
View on Reddit #85656057

Belgrade in general is much bigger city compared to Zagreb, so the general city life is more fun. Other than that, nothing much
View on Reddit #85658123

Yeah, Belgrade is alive 24/7 and has a lot more stuff to do, Zagreb is kinda empty at night.
View on Reddit #85707976

SkibidiDopYes@reddit

\+ probably more job opportunities since Belgrade has all the huge companies from every sphere, even though Croatia (and therefore Zagreb) are in the EU, Serbia (especially Belgrade) isn't missing out much in high level jobs. Even in Novi Sad you have a lot of IT firms and job opportunities for a lot of stuff. Everywhere else not so much and it gets more depressing and underdeveloped the more south you go. On the other hand, Belgrade has the worst traffic known to man + Serbia has way to many political instabilities over the last 1.5 years.

a_bright_knight@reddit

how can Serbia be worse than Albania or Greece when their gas is more expensive?
View on Reddit #85670766

Ok_Win8049@reddit

I said the mentality is roughly the same, and that Serbia is the champ at being worst at this. NIS has been getting relatively cheap fuel through Gazprom, probably the only good aspect of that shameful acquisition deal. The problem was, the cheap fuel meant fuck all to the average Serb, because the government decided to slap as much tax as it wants because you are forced to use it no matter what. To my knowledge, Albania has no fuel deal of the sort nor the infrastructure. Their shitty prices at least have some legit excuses (with the added corruption too), ours don't. Second, these are petrol prices, which is typically more expensive. In Serbia, diesel has been more expensive for years, and by no small margin. And would you look at that..60-70% of the ppl drive diesel in Serbia.

For the Americans snooping around remember there are 3.78 liters in a gallon so multiple each price by 3.78 to get the equivalent to American prices at the pump. I gusss petrol is one of the easiest ways to control for an government that taxes are being payed. Gas stations probably can’t cut corners and cheat on this. This could be a reason for Albania why the gas price is so high. For Greece, I think that a large part of the population lives in Athens and islands far from neighbouring countries plays a big role in the high gas prices. Government knows that people have no other choice than to pay these high prices.

View on Reddit #85718656

It's precisely this. Albania is a highly informal economy, the one place where the government can knock it out of the park with taxes, is in fuels. And they do exactly that. Also let's not forget that Albania is a small market, therefore suppliers can't make good use of economy of scale to bring the price down.

well driving diesel is generally cheaper even with the price difference. Diesel cars generally use less fuel.

Greek guy here. 2,44 may be the highest gasoline price in the islands. The mainland prices are at least 0,20€ cheaper.
View on Reddit #85655668

kaiser_151@reddit

Maybe its the prices for 100 octane fuel? Prices in my city are around 2-2.10 for normal fuel. Still pretty expensive considering we are slightly lower than places in western Europe that have more than double the salaries.

In Poland i just tanked for slightly over 7 zł per littre.i think it was 7,06 or something like this. So around 1,66 euro not so bad but i still miss it when it was below 6 zł. I tanked for 200 zł. I earn around 4,700(~1100 euro) per month. And the fuel i just got should last me for around month. Especially if weather will be better then i will return to bike. i have around 7/8 km to work.

In Italy, the government cut taxes on fuel by indebting the country even more. So yeah, it's a mid price but it's just to speed up our future collapse.
