Pressure plate won’t line up with flywheel dowels

Installing new flywheel + clutch in my 98 civic and test fitting the pressure plate but it won’t line up with the 3 flywheel dowels. Seems even the bolt holes don’t line up but I’m assuming it’s for the same reason
Using a LuK flywheel and exedy stage 1 clutch kit, any ideas? Thank you

You could always do what the PO of my project did when he got the wrong flywheel. Just drill holes where you need them. Bonus points if you use a hand held power drill and the precision of Mr Magoo on heroin.

Mark 90 times to drill once and break the bit :)

Drill in place dowel?

Had the same problem with my ‘09 civic when I did the clutch/flywheel. Turns out, at least in my case, it was “keyed” and only fit in one configuration: try spinning it and go through all three possible combinations of hole/pin and see if maybe one of them fits.

Was gonna say this too. Sometimes only lines up one way
frogsRfriends@reddit
In my case it’s everytime it only like to do it one way

Of 3 options the 5th always seems to work for me …

Sometimes the 7th if it really is testing my patience

They only fit one way.
Keep spinnin’
driftrx@reddit
You’ll find this will only likely line up one way, rotate it around till it does.

Wrong pressure plate for your flywheel, I'll infer.

They both said they were for a 98 civic. Should I just try ordering a flywheel from exedy?
grease_monkey@reddit
I would say one of them said weong

The dowels are not equidistant; the clutch only fits on the flywheel one way. Keep turning the clutch until they line up.
Pretty common mistake to make and some people send back a lot of clutches and/or flywheels before they figure it out.

I have gotten wrong parts from brick & mortar and online vendors. It happens.
They're often close, but not exact matches. It's a bother.
Pyropete125@reddit
Yup. The vw 9 and 9-7/16 dowels are aboutbas close as that
Gwendolyn-NB@reddit
Obviously 1 of the 2 is wrong... which one matches what you took off the car; did you compare? That'll be the most obvious way to tell.
Anonymous3k@reddit (OP)
No I’m in the process of manual swapping the car so I don’t have any old parts to compare either of them to.
RIF_Internet_Goon@reddit
The project car woes we all face when we manual swap or put engines that never came in the chassis.

Dual mass or single.
