Copart car complete

2015 Volvo s60- 120k miles, rear end left side damage.
Ended up buying this Volvo for my sister, for a project car as her old Volvo has 250k+ miles! So it’s time for an upgrade, and ended up getting this on Copart for $1600 before the fees, and around $2300 after fees.
Bought a tail light, trunk and rear bumper for $550 dollars, from someone local who had matching paint.
all this work to get it back to straight took 17 hours. I did this with me and my sister, and it was fairly simple, and a great learning process!
Definitely frustrating in some parts, as I’ve never done any body work, but soooo worth it!
In all spent was $2900

Great job!
Was thinking about doing something similar but worried about title and insurance issues in California.
Did that go smooth where you are?

Just fixed it this morning, need 4 new tires 😑 then I’ll be able to do VIN inspection, just have to fill out forms, bring recipets and photos , it should be good to go.
As far as insurance, no full coverage, only liability

To stay with the budget-minded approach, you could look for some “take offs” on FB Marketplace or CL rather than buying new tires.
Nice job on the car! I’ve “restored” two Copart vehicles…still have them both and love them both!

Good to hear you've had luck with Copart too. I've actually won a couple cars from Copart myself through AutoBidMaster, a Civic and a Mazda 3. Both salvage but both been solid daily drivers. Dad laughed at me at first but now he's the one bidding on classics. Funny how that works. What did you restore?

A 2015 Lexus LS460 Crafted Line and a 2009 Lexus GX470

So the price you guys won these cars for, would you say definitely worth it?
ackerbone@reddit
In both of my cases, definitely. But…
The LS I put about $16K into in total but it’s double that in the used market (and is somewhat “rare”)
The GX, I put about $7,500 in BUT a couple thousand of that was lift/suspension just because I wanted to, not because it “had” to (although would have needed at least a little). It had lower miles considering and the damage was minimal (hail, but I could tell in pics it was minor, and I was able to have a PDR guy get them all out for a few hundred).

That’s subjective. But I do know that clean title same mileage in my area are 9-12k and I spent $2900 not including tires. I’d say it was worth it for sure
50ug@reddit (OP)
Fb marketplace is the route I went , all parts I need for $500
Ninjobill@reddit
Oh yeah tires add a good amount to the total bill but then it really won't need much after that.
That's good info! Thank you!
AutoTransportMover@reddit
Great job. It's like the accident never happened.
gordo1223@reddit
Did you have to do any metal work on the frame?
ZaMelonZonFire@reddit
Very well done!! They make an OEM rear deck lip that is available in white, btw. We put one on my wife’s car when she had it.
Make sure to do your timing belt!
50ug@reddit (OP)
Old trunk came with the OEM lip you’re speaking of, my sister said she likes it better without 🤷♀️ so will probably keep it that way.
Timing belt looks like it had been done at 95k miles (around 20k ago )

Awesome! Great work. You clearly put in the prep and made it look like nothing ever happened. Looking to do something like this for my wife, but she doesn’t want another white cars. And there so many of these cars in white!! Lol

This is fantastic.

And now you have AWD!
TealPotato@reddit
Well done!
Under $3k all in for that car seems to like a great deal!

Love these posts op thanks for sharing!

Good work, mate! Even if you factored in your time at $100/hr you’d still be under $5k all in. Anything you could’ve bought in running & driving condition for $5k likely would’ve had at least one previous accident on its record with far worse damage.
