How many times is too many times to raise noise issues with a neighbour?

I’m looking for some advice on how to handle a neighbour situation without becoming “that neighbour”.

I live in a flat and the person above me walks very heavily. It’s not music or parties or anything antisocial — just loud stomping/heel-walking that I can hear throughout the day and sometimes late at night.

The awkward part is that I’ve mentioned it to her a number of times over the years. Every time she’s actually been really nice and understanding about it, and things improve for a while… but eventually it goes back to how it was before. We otherwise get on fine.

I feel bad bringing it up repeatedly because I imagine it’s annoying to keep hearing the same complaint, especially when she’s never been rude about it. But at the same time, it genuinely affects my comfort at home.

Has anyone dealt with this kind of thing before? Is there a polite long-term way to handle it? Or is this just one of those unavoidable flat-living realities?
