Sauce
Fun_Machine7346@reddit
Ham and cheese sandwich. Turkey sandwich. That kind of stuff.
BusinessWarthog6@reddit
Burgers. Some people mix mayo and ketchup for dipping. Some people pug mustard on hot dogs
OhThrowed@reddit
Fry sauce. It's everywhere in Utah.
SirJumbles@reddit
Yeah, but you'll want a dash of yellow mustard, and some pickle juice.
I like adding some BBQ sauce too, Training Table style.
NeverRarelySometimes@reddit
We add a little Worcestershire.

Definitely would be. Also something I'd love to see in a Famous Dave's or general bbq sauce spot.

Mayo and mustard (usually Dijon) or mayo and hot sauce are my go tos for fry dips.

Cold cut sandwich
DogsBikesAndMovies@reddit
Not just cold cut, but lots of sandwiches. Why would you NOT put mayo and mustard on it?
beyondplutola@reddit
Yup. And for the lazy, you can buy Dijonnaise with your Dijon and mayo premixed.
Frosty_Employment171@reddit
Never. You probably put ketchup on hot dogs.
beyondplutola@reddit
Oh I wouldn’t include myself in the lazy. I don’t often eat hot dogs, but when I do, I’m a brown mustard and sauerkraut person. But I’m also not opposed to dressing them like a taco with chopped onion, cilantro and green salsa.
distracted_x@reddit
Heinz mayomust is actually delicious it's just like the filling of deviled eggs. I could just squirt it in my mouth. I don't. I mean I have. But not enough for it to be weird.

I had to stay in a physica rehab center for a few months and when I asked for a sandwich, they gace me bread, ham and cheese. That's it. I had to pitch a fit for them to send me some mayo and mustard.
Cerulean_IsFancyBlue@reddit
I have an oddly specific objection to mayonnaise as a condiment with American lunchmeat ham. That ham needs some serious brown mustard, but not mayo.
I’m not against some butter on the bread before a dry prosciutto or something like that.
Turkey though? Turkey needs mayo and some light mustard. :)

what are deviled eggs? i’ve seen them online and always been curious lol
Blossom73@reddit
Hard boiled eggs. They're cut in half, the yolk scooped out and mixed with mustard, mayo, relish, or some combo of the three, and some seasonings, and then the yolk is spooned or piped back into the egg whites. They're delicious.
BernieTheDachshund@reddit
A little sprinky dink of sugar helps balance the flavors. And it has to be topped with paprika to be properly 'deviled'.
Gangster-Girl@reddit
My dad added horseradish sauce to really devil them.
Dish_Boggett@reddit
My wife adds that and finely crunched up bacon. Best deviled eggs I've ever eaten.
ZombieLizLemon@reddit
I mix in crumbled bacon and minced scallion.
Gangster-Girl@reddit

gonyere@reddit
I thought about that and may try it next time. Mayo, mustard, spike and paprika has been my go-to.
Gangster-Girl@reddit
Paprika is still a must!
No_Revolution_918@reddit

KittyLikesTuna@reddit
You can't leave off the paprika

My mom was an alcoholic so I learned how to make breakfast foods at a very young age. I was making devilled eggs at 7 or 8 years old.

Never had them for breakfast, they've always been an appetizer or hors D'oeuvre. Now I've got something new to try.
Patient-Classroom524@reddit
I take 18 eggs, devil them, and serve them as a main course for dinner, in addition to their usual uses as party food and snacks.
Pulp501@reddit
Ive actually never thought of it as a breakfast food. I think of it as a party and holiday food.
Jens0485@reddit
I like to make them for breakfast by adding crumbled bacon on top :D
gonyere@reddit
I've started making 3-4 for lunch occasionally. So good. And, assuming you already have hard boiled eggs, so quick and easy.
TigerPaw317@reddit
I once found myself halfway through making a batch of eggs when I realized that I was out of pickles. Subbed in some capers, and was surprised at how well they worked!
Remarkable_Story9843@reddit
I make a “circle of life” deviled eggs. I added finely shredded chicken and buffalo sauce to the yolks and ranch /mayo mix.
CaptainPunisher@reddit
While you can add all that stuff, I make a basic egg with just the yolk and Best Foods Mayo (Hellmann's on the east side of the country). I always get so much hate here for it, but the beauty is in its simplicity. Nobody has as ever complained about my eggs and they always get eaten. I'm tasting the mix until I get it to the perfect point. Once I'm happy with it, I know others will be, too. I'll bring spices and stuff if people want to add to them, but most people just eat them as-is once they taste them.

Everyone has their own recipe.
HeidiWoodSprite@reddit
Deliciousness. That's what they are. Slice a hard boiled egg in half, scoop out the yolk, mix the yolk with mayo and a dash of mustard. Spice it up to your taste (I like curry, granulated garlic, celery salt, paprika). Spoon that back onto the "bowl" of the egg white, and pop it in your mouth. Gastro goodness (though you may experience a bit of sulfur gas afterward from eating too many eggs). 😂
Funny-Strawberry1351@reddit
not for me, I hate eggs. but was always mildly curious about them lol
Dravya_Dave@reddit
I do not like eggs as a rule, but I love deviled eggs.
olcrazypete@reddit

CursedForestDonuts@reddit
I can, and have, legitimately eatin an entire dozen eggs in the form of 24 deviled eggs in one sitting. Why are they so good???
DEdwardPossum@reddit
Just to add to the other excellent anawers - Maybe it is a family thing but we sprinkle some paprika or cayenne pepper on top.
raingirlkm@reddit
There are many versions, but the most basic elements are that you start with hard boiled eggs, peeled and cut in half length wise. The egg yolks are removed to a bowl and mashed, then seasoned with mayonnaise and mustard, salt and pepper, plus any other flavoring. Personally I like them pretty simple; I add granulated garlic but some people like to add finely chopped pickles or onion or celery. After the yolk mixture is seasoned to taste, it is returned to the egg white 'shells' either with a spoon or fork (if you're being fancy you might put the filling in a piping bag and pipe it in.) The top can then be garnished. A traditional finish would be a little paprika sprinkled on top.
GlassGumdrops@reddit
Hard boil some eggs and cut them in half, pop out the yolks and mix them up with mayo, mustard(any kind you want) into a smooth paste and spoon the paste back into the egg white is the most basic way but you can mix whatever you want in with the paste. Pickle relish and dill are popular, also crumbled bacon and green onion. I like to do a korean inspired version with chopped kim chi and kim chi juice instead of mustard.
Madrona88@reddit
Hard cooked eggs, split in half. Yolk is pulled out and.mixed with mayo , mustard , pickle relish, spices. Stuck back into the egg half. Recipes are different from family to family.
trampolinebears@reddit
Boil eggs, peel off the shells, cut the eggs in half lengthwise. Scoop out the yolks, blend the yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, various seasonings, then pipe them back into the whites.
rockninja2@reddit
My first thought for this combo. Maybe that is because I find mayo appalling in any form other than in deviled eggs though
Patient-Classroom524@reddit
My son puts mayonnaise on his pancakes. His father puts margatrne. I put butter.
Patient-Classroom524@reddit
Correct. I use the old Family Circle recipe: eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, and cayenne pepper sprinkled on top. No salt because it come with the two sauces. And theyre good.

Yeah, one of the bigger hurdles I had to overcome with my wife when we started dating…I’m a mayo person and she’s a whipper (hard R). First time she made us ham and cheese sandwiches I almost gagged.
However, that said, she won me over when it comes to deviled eggs. A good dill base DE made with whip kinda rocks.

Mayo? French Fries, Ham & Cheese sandwich or cheese sandwich. Same with mustard. Also mustard on hamburgers.
darw1nf1sh@reddit
I like to mix them into a single sauce. A strong deli mustard with a good mayo, on a grilled ham n cheese is fantastic. All my grilled cheese sammies have a mayo/mustard mix.
EpsilonAmber@reddit
that specific mix? I'd say sandwiches.... usually with meat..... ham and cheese sandwiches..... yeah....
No_Importance_750@reddit
Mustard on hotdogs or burgers is common.

Mustard goes on Cuban sandwiches and soft pretzels. Mayo goes on sandwiches, but i only buy Kewpie these days. It’s so much better than our brands. It’s great on fries.
lil-birdy4@reddit
I tend to eat salt, pepper and ketchup with my other condiments.
MillieBirdie@reddit
Mayo is a key ingredient in many 'salads' like potato salad, macaroni salad, tuna salad, chicken salad. It's also popular on sandwiches.
Mustard is eaten on hot dogs, hamburgers, and pretzels for those who like it but it's usually not the default.
Both mayonnaise and mustard are ingredients in deviled eggs.
turdferguson3891@reddit
I think mustad on a hot dog is the closest thing to a standard use of it along with bratwurst and other sausages. Some people are adamant about ketchup never being used. I guess some people just eat it plain but that seems so boring to me.
MillieBirdie@reddit
Yeah mustard is most associated with hot dogs but what I meant by default is you'd probably still ask someone if they want mustard, whereas with something llike ketchup on a burger it often just comes that way.
ImagineFreedom@reddit
I have to remember which restaurants put ketchup on a burger as a default. It doesn't belong there.
Doctor_Juris@reddit
Pretzels are probably second after hot dogs. Though usually it’s not yellow mustard with pretzels.
Weaselpuss@reddit
Cheese dip is what pretzels get around me. Hot dogs, brats, cold cuts, and burgers almost always get mustard.
AlarmedTelephone5908@reddit
See, to me, mustard is the default for hotdogs and hamburgers.
Some people like mayo and/or ketchup on their burgers, but that's not right imo, lol.
Ketchup is for your French fries.
"Mustard, all the way." Meaning mustard and all the veggies 😋.
Clean-Turnip5971@reddit
"All the way" here is mustard and coleslaw, onions, and chili.
eugenesbluegenes@reddit
Few things I find more annoying than ketchup on a burger as default.
shelwood46@reddit
Only brown mustard for bratwurst, if for some strange reason you do not want only onions and/or sauerkraut. Yellow mustard on brats is just wrong.
PlanningMyEscape@reddit
I put Coleman's on my brats. So spicy and good. It's a plain yellow mustard, but it's more sharp than any "spicy" mustard I've tried so far.
TMulharin@reddit
My opinion is: Mustard only? Yes. Ketchup and mustard? Yes. Ketchup only? No.
gnope@reddit
Hard agree, I actually love the combo on a dog but would rather eat it plain if no mustard is available.
KeyCold7216@reddit
Im conviced the people that dont like ketchup on a hot dog have never had it.
Oldachrome1107@reddit
A lot of times it’s people who are talking about Chicago style hot dogs, which typically don’t have ketchup on them, only mustard (they do usually have a slice of tomato on them, among other things)
Seadevil07@reddit
I like mustard with the tomato on a Chicago style. I like ketchup with relish or a pickle wedge. I like chili with onions. I’m not really dogmatic on any combo. You just have to play with the sweet, salty, sour, bitter, & umami, hitting at least two with the hot dog itself on the savory & salty side.
Oldachrome1107@reddit
There’s really no wrong way to eat a hot dog.
GaiaIsaHarshMistress@reddit
I have tried sugar sauce on my food, and I don't like sugar sauce on my food. I think maybe I did when I was three years old, though.
Seadevil07@reddit
No barbecue sauce, relish, sweet soy, maple syrup, teriyaki, or over 1/2 of all dressings on any of your foods? Sweet had a place in many sauces, like the sour/bitter of mustard, savory of mayo, or salty of traditional soy.
GaiaIsaHarshMistress@reddit
Yep, I'm a weirdo. I like vinegar on my bbq, diced garlic kosher dills instead of relish, mustard with my fries, maple syrup on stuff maybe once a year or so (although I can't remember the last time I had it), vinegrettes and Caesar dressing (both of which I make myself, with no sugar), etc.
pandymen@reddit
People who don't like ketchup generally prefer a Chicago dog, which includes a tomato. Ketchup is redundant on a Chicago dog and it's become a badge of honor to not eat hot dogs with ketchup at this point. You should try it.
Katressl@reddit
I've had it. Ate ketchup and mustard on hot dogs as a kid. As an adult, unless it has horseradish in it and shrimp is in the offing, I consider ketchup an abomination. Gimme relish and mustard. Preferably an interesting one I haven't tried before. (This is what comes of living less than fifteen minutes from the Mustard Museum.)
dpk794@reddit
My local hot dog place (which also happens to be the best in the world) doesn’t include ketchup even when you say a hotdog with “everything.” Have to ask for ketchup specifically if you want it
sheiciebai@reddit
Add honey to the mayo and mustard and you got honey mustard!
MamaPajamaMama@reddit
I use mayo and mustard in my egg salad too. Trader Joe's has a dill pickle mustard that's fabulous in egg salad. And on hot dogs.
itmightbehere@reddit
We often use varying levels of mustard in salads as well, depending on your recipe. I like using yellow mustard it in potato and egg salads, and whole grain mustard is a nice addition to chicken and tuna salads

I use mayo and mustard for lots of different things. Mayo, since it's a fat-based emulsion, make and excellent sandwich lube. I also will use mayo and mustard in various "salads," such as tuna, or ham. these "salads" are basically meats (i.e., tuna or ham) mixed with celery and onion, and then eaten (usually) as a sandwich.
I often put mayo on a hamburger, too...

Usually a ham and cheese sandwich. Bht I'll use them as toppings for a bratwurst if the opportunity arises.
LibrarianofBabel1127@reddit
Hot/Cold sandwiches instantly come to mind, but mustard especially has several applications. Honey mustard is typically a dipping sauce for chicken (some restaurants make their own sauce with mustard for chicken wings). I don't see "regular" yellow mustard used much outside of burgers and hot dogs, but you'll see spicy and/or Dijon paired with sausages, charcuterie boards, and soft pretzels. Mayonnaise, on the other hand, is either spread on sandwiches or used as an ingredient in other dishes such as devilled eggs, potato salad, etc. I'm sure there are more uses for it, but I can't say I've encountered them.

Bluemonogi@reddit
Sandwiches, wraps, burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs- might be used as condiments. Some people like to use mayo instead of butter on their grilled cheese sandwich.
Salads- commonly used as ingredients in a dressing for vegetable or pasta salads
Big soft pretzels often come with a mustard dip.
Sauces or dips for fries, chicken nuggets, raw vegetables- used as ingredients in various sauces and dips but sometimes people dip fries in mayo or mustard without them being mixed with anything.
A bit of mustard might be added to some cheese sauce for mac and cheese, baked beans, sloppy joe sauce. I recall there is a chocolate cake recipe that uses mayo as an ingredient. I think there are some recipes for chicken, pork or fish that are coated in a mayo mixture before cooking.

Works on a steak too.
Not always the best way, but a reliable ‘good’
PlayingDoomOnAGPS@reddit
Works when making potato wedges too. Mayo is basically oil and eggs. If you toss bits of potato in mayo before they go in the oven, the egg makes the oil stay in contact with the surface and you basically fry the outer layer of the food without needing a huge reservoir of oil like deep, or even pan frying.
Also,, a thin layer of mayo on the inside of the grilled cheese gives it a nice tang and makes the melted cheese a bit creamier.
EnoughGlass@reddit
I put some garlic powder on it too and it makes it so good.

I grew up intensely disliking mayonnaise. Discovered as an adult I dislike American mayonnaise. I do like Japanese mayonnaise however. Much more flavorful and not just a mouthful of slightly gelatinous fat. Homemade mayo is much closer to the kewpie, but I find sometimes it goes too far into the “tangy” or “sweet” realms. I’ll use it as a booster for some sauces now (like Parmesan garlic sauce, or homemade honey mustard), but in general I just don’t care about it.
As a kid I ate mayonnaise on sandwiches and burgers. It was in potato salad, tuna salad, egg salad, and deviled eggs.
Mustard was also a cold savory sandwich condiment, as well as an ingredient in most of the salads I listed. When I got older I discovered I really liked it as a dip for soft pretzels, as well as a nice pop of flavor in cooked carrots.
Maleficent-Hawk-318@reddit

Together??? Nothing
dohlparts@reddit
Sandwiches, burgers, mix in with potato or macaroni salads, deviled eggs toppings, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches. Shit, anything really. I LOVE mayonnaise. Extra mayonnaise on everything.
gdubh@reddit
Sandwiches. Hot dogs. Burgers. Potato salad.
NoMore414@reddit
I mix the two and slather it on an English muffin with egg and cheese 😋
Next_Ad_4165@reddit
Deviled eggs, egg salad sandwich, ham or turkey sandwich, hamburgers (add ketchup and onions), potato salad. Some people do mayo on their hot dogs (also ketchup and mustard).

Adding french fries to the pro mayo list.
rnmissionrun@reddit
Mustard on hot dogs, and sometimes on baloney. Mayo on just about everything else.
GaiaIsaHarshMistress@reddit
I'm on team "mustard on most any sandwich, mayo on nothing whatsoever".
John_cCmndhd@reddit
Mayo is a good base for marinades for grilled chicken. If you think about it, it's basically just sticky oil. Also, rubbing a very thin layer on a steak before you season it
GOTaSMALL1@reddit
Wait til OP sees “Mayo-Must”.
voipgv123@reddit
Panera Bread tuna fish sandwich was known for this. The mustard enhanced the flavor of the sandwich.
Phoenix_Court@reddit
Individually or together? The only thing I personally would ever mix them in is deviled eggs. But they can be mixed other places too, sandwiches, burgers, etc.
Waagtod@reddit
Mix together, mostly mayo, rub chicken breast chunks. Then bread with seasoned panko. 20 minutes in a hot oven. It tastes fried.
Nypav11@reddit
I do this with honey mustard and crispy fried onions, will have to try this. Super easy

More mayonnaise.
Spyderbeast@reddit
We're not a monolith
I can't stand mayo, and it's rarely an ingredient I use. But deviled eggs and tuna salad are exceptions
Mustard goes in deviled eggs to drown out the little mayo I use
Mustard is good on almost anything served on a bun, from hot dogs, brats, pastrami and similar sandwiches, cheeseburgers, a dash in mac and cheese.... Much better flavor than mayo
ZJPV1@reddit
To show off the "we're not a monolith" comment, I figured I'd reply under this one.
I can't stand mustard and don't use it in anything, and I feel that its cloying, spicy taste invade otherwise delicious things.
Mayo is good as a sauce in certain situations like "salads" (Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad) and as a burger topping. It can also be used as a dipping sauce (usually with ketchup) for french fries and other fried dippables (chicken, usually). Much better flavor than mustard.

That's about it, I think. Most things get one or the other, that's the only one I can think of that gets both.
VanDenBroeck@reddit
I put mustard and/or mayonnaise on everything that weirdos put ketchup on.
dragonmuse@reddit
Mayonnaise AND mustard: -egg salad -sandwiches/burgers ...im not sure of anything else thats common. Fry dip often has Mayonnaise and mustard.
Narrow_Lake_9651@reddit
I use mayonnaise on a BLT and potato salad. I use mustard on hot dogs and hamburgers
ImLittleNana@reddit
Mayo and mustard is good on a lot of sandwiches, my favorites being bologna or ham. Also good on hot dogs.
Mayo and mustard is the beginnings if a good potato salad dressing.
Add some honey and you’ve got honey mustard dressing or dipping sauce.
Soundwave-1976@reddit
Deviled eggs, some sandwiches, burgers, Mayo in chocolate cake is the bees knees.
Bulky_Succotash_7377@reddit
huh, mayo in chocolate cake... I am Not a baker, but love homemade chocolate cake. I can see this working!
Soundwave-1976@reddit
It keeps it moist and you cant taste it.
TillPsychological351@reddit
Mayonnaise is the devil's condiment for some of us, I won't touch that stuff.
For mustard... cold cut sandwiches, hotdogs and other sausages, burgers, soft pretzels, sometimes ham. One regional variety of BBQ uses a mustard-based sauce. It goes particularly well on anything smokey or salty.
ITrCool@reddit
I’ll put mayo on a sandwich. 🥪
Can’t stand mustard. 🤢
Responsible_Trash_40@reddit
My rule of thumb with deli meats is if it’s fatty I’ll use mustard, something like ham or pastrami. If it’s a lean meat like turkey I’ll use mayo.
Soggy-Advantage4711@reddit
I had a bologna, mustard, and mayonnaise sandwich every day for lunch in elementary school. It turns my stomach a bit to admit that now

Many things with mustard.
But idk what others do.
Conscious-Okra-7340@reddit
I am your mirror opposite. Very little with mustard. ABSOLUTELY NO YELLOW MUSTARD (normal American mustard)!!! I hate it!!! Only rare occasions, or buried in a recipe, do I consume high quality French Dijon mustard. I like mayonnaise.
Angry_GorillaBS@reddit
I don't use it as much as I used to but mustard works with so many things. It's the perfect condiment really. It's not always yellow mustard but that works just fine if that's what is available.
I won't touch anything with mayo or miracle whip in it or on it
seatownquilt-N-plant@reddit
We're eating bagel sandwiches for breakfast mine will have egg, cheese, sauteed vegetables, mayo, and mustard.
_handlemewithcare_@reddit
The mayo has to be really hidden in something for me to eat it (and if I’m making a dressing or similar, I’m finding a sub). No yellow mustard. A little Dijon in some homemade dressings.
Constellation-88@reddit
Burgers. Sandwiches. Hot dogs.
SavannahInChicago@reddit
Nothing. I am not a fan.
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
Deli sandwiches and cheeseburgers. I use one or the other to make a lot of other things, like honey mustard, ranch dressing, or parmesan crusted chicken.
PghSubie@reddit
I can't think of anything for which I would add a mixture of those two
seemebeawesome@reddit
Whole grain stone ground mustard on sandwiches and charcuterie. Yellow mustard on hotdogs and hamburgers. Asian hot mustard on eggrolls and sometimes charcuterie
Mayo on sandwiches and hamburgers. Used as an ingredient in salads like tuna and pasta. Also to brown hamburger buns and make grilled sandwiches. I saw a cooking show where a guy added herbs and coated a whole turkey before roasting. Mayo should really only have oil, egg yolks, salt, vinegar and water
chaamdouthere@reddit
I use mustard for SO many things. Salad dressing, marinade, put it on steak, dip fries in it, add it to soup for flavor, use when making potato or pasta salad, put it on sandwiches.
Mayo: nothing. Store-bought mayo is too sweet for me so anything I would use mayo for (making sauces or dressings) I just use Greek yogurt.

I dip fries in mayo, which is underrated.
NoodleyP@reddit
For me, mayo is an “I’ll put that shit on anything” while mustard is for sandwiches, and specific kinds of sandwiches.
Michigander07@reddit
I have Mayonnaise with fries and on burgers mostly. If I make a sandwich I tend to use Miracle Whip.
Mustard, that is the perfect condiment, I have it on hotdogs, brats, burgers, sandwiches, pretzels, so much more. I actually don’t eat too much ketchup but instead use mustard.
CZall23@reddit
I think it depends on how much cooking they do. Both are used as condiments on sandwiches and such. Deviled Eggs usually have both and are popular. I made a Remouille sauce once that uses mustard and mayo.
BooksNCatsNWineNSnax@reddit
I use them with lots of things, more often mustard than mayonnaise. Deviled eggs and potato salad both have them. They go on sandwiches, and into salad dressings. This week, I had plans to do a glaze with apricot jam and dijon for some chicken. I usually use a thin layer of mayonnaise instead of butter when I’m making a grilled cheese sandwich, because it goes on easier.
TrainingLow9079@reddit
Along with what others have said some people dip french fries into mayonnaise.
RIPdon_sutton@reddit
Add some relish and put it on a hot dog.

I didn't mind it on a cheeseburger as I also added ketchup growing up. No mustard on a burger as an adult, now. Mayo and mustard together on a sandwich for me? No. One or the other. But I know people that combine the two.
MaximumAsparagus@reddit
Tuna salad. Can be eaten in sandwiches, stuffed tomatoes, etc. And what everyone else is saying -- cold cut sandwiches/wraps, burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken.
Mustard is versatile in cooking. Chicken dishes, salad vinaigrettes, etc. Mayonnaise somewhat less so but can be used for things like elotes.
JayFenty@reddit
Mayo - burgers and sandwiches
Mustard - hot dogs and soft pretzels
offbrandcheerio@reddit
Sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs. There's also a condiment called fry sauce that's very common in Utah specifically, and it's a combination of mayonnaise, ketchup, and sometimes some other things.
