i really hate how people look at these flopps and then come to the conclusion that "modern gaming is le bad". What about all the other massive successes that are realising every single year? Both Indie and AAA
I fucking hate extraction shooters. I hate how many of them there are. I hate how they are designed to perpetuate meaningless compulsion rather than tell a story or do anything of interest. I do have a friend who likes them though, and I tried this on his computer a bit ago.
This is the only place I can admit my shame. Under cover of anonymity - I actually kind of liked it.
I'm a super fan for the first two from the 'only-games-available-on-mac' days and I'm not even a mac user. I think I bought one just to play them - or at least pulled one out of the trash. For me it was basically like more system shock, only with the infant version of that Bungie tard glaze that no one with self respect should ever admit that they like. I'd much rather play a single player game that isn't trying to warp your mind into an endless regression of loot greed - so I won't buy it. But it does vaguely look like a marathon game, and it's at least 5% better in gameplay than all the other extraction slop that gets pumped out.
They think I'm a spiteful person that just wants games to fail, but that's simply not true. I'm a spiteful person that wants live services to fail. I want single-player games to succeed.
It's money laundering because most of the budget is either fake, executive salaries, and useless shit (company house, company car, etc.) or just straight tax evasion (spend X on shit product, evaluate shit product for 2X, write off 2X on taxes, avoid >X in taxes, thus being net positive in terms of cash)
Writing off expenses and failures is not tax evasion. It’s literally the opposite of tax evasion. It leaves a huge, very-auditable paper trail, which is exactly what tax evaders do not want
> It's money laundering because most of the budget is either fake, executive salaries, and useless shit (company house, company car, etc.)
Yeah but that’s not true, this is like when people scream about all the “loopholes” people are taking advantage of without ever being able to elaborate on any of them.
The vast vast majority of a game’s budget is salaries, because you’ve got thousands of people, many of whom work on the west coast making $200k+ working for 5+ years sculpting background doodads and ultra-high resolution textures that a handful of people will notice
He’s right, if you see a new game come out and be a massive hit, it’s already too fucking late to chase that trend. It’ll take at LEAST 2 years to make your own game if you rush it (and it’ll cost you a fuckload of money to get it done that fast), and that trend will have lived and died 10 times over by then. Suits are legitimately fucking retards and should not be allowed to stink up serious engineering work with their cash addiction.

every time I think of getting back into tarkov, I remember
> wipes
> ran through
> setup, grenadier
> gas analyzers
> ice cream cones, gas analyzers again
>karma system and partizan
> lighthouse, lightkeeper
and then I stop thinking of playing it again

Have these people who passionately hate Marathon actually played the game though. Because it’s a damn good game tbh

I thought the control felt clunky and dated. Destiny with some sheen. MP FPS games just don't hit the same.
Looks nice though, I guess.

It's such a great game that the retention is through the floor and no one new is buying it.

Marathon is a single player game though. Steam charts indicate it currently has a single player.

Except "normal people" can't invest shit, they're not the ones fund managers use the money from.
It's just a rich sport for rich people.
They grow money on trees because they manage the whole orchard.
Yeah you can do that on 3 or 4 lifetimes and be "rich" like the real rich, not "I have been living a frugal life" rich.
