Did you have the ribbed grip? I keep seeing pictures for that ribbed grip and the grip shown in the picture above and it’s hard to tell which is which.
For $400ish bucks i’d be willing to have an unreliable range toy. That’s why i’m hoping someone has enough actual experience with these to dissuade me.
Is it even possible to make an unreliable revolver? It's like pump shotguns. Everything's manually moving, it's really just durability of parts at play. Hard to make a bad revolver
My stepson had a Rock Island 38 special that was extremely unreliable. Took about 30 trigger pulls to shoot all 6 rounds due to intermittent light primer strikes.
It’s usually a $200-300 difference to get a new Smith or Ruger, less for used. For a “base model” 357 revolver I think the scales lean towards the Smith/Ruger since they’re really a lot nicer for not THAT much more. But if you look at the slightly more expensive Trackers with porting, and maybe bigger calibers, the gap widens. You can get a 357 or 44 mag ported Tracker for <$500 usually which is much cheaper than any ported Smith or Ruger 357/44. So I’d mostly view it as $500 ported Tracker that maximizes value and just feels rough as far as fit/finish vs $700 Smith/Ruger that feels nice to handle but less features
People keep talking about Smiths being nicer but they are still having a lot of QC issues. Local store had to send back my 586-8 and a handful of other guns they hadn't sold yet because of a bur in the frame causing rounds to catch, little brother bought one of the new model 36s without the lock and the recoil shield on the right side wasn't flat so the cylinder wouldn't close without a lot of force and wouldn't turn at all. The newer 629s had/have a bunch of issues as well among other models. Im not saying it's just S&W these days but a lot of brands are having QC issues and S&Ws is likely because they still struggling after moving their factory.
I had an issue with my performance center smith, and they took care of it. My brother had an issue with a Taurus revolver and sent it back 6 times before just trading it in.
I'm not saying their customer service is bad, but your brother having to send back a performance center gun in the first place should be a red flag. Especially since your paying extra for a gun that's supposed to be upgraded or a premium model over the base guns.
I was having some light primer strike issues. They made some adjustment I probably could have done myself but I was afraid of messing g it up. I’ve also put a lot of rounds through my 460.
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of QC complaints over the past few years with American gun companies. Henry, Smith, Ruger, Kimber, Remington, etc. I got my 686 in 2022 and fortunately have had zero issues
Add Colt to that list, saw a dude buy a brand new Colt 1911A1 style government model and only half the barrel had rifling and it was a clunky mess. He compared it to the same style Tisas a third of the price and it was much worse than the Turk.
Yep forgor about Colt, those Tisas and honestly most Turkish handguns are incredible value. Seems like the Turk shotguns are more likely to be problematic but your Tisas, Macs, SARs, Caniks, etc are solid
I read somewhere that in Turkey just about anyone can manufacture shotguns, but the pistol manufacturing process has stricter regulations, which seems to result in very nice products
I have one. Its reliable and shoots decent but is a prime example of "I've regretted cheaping out, I've never regretted waiting and spending on the real thing."
The hammer and cylinder release are MIM and feel like it. Cylinder release needed filing to sit flush on the frame. The finish is cheap and rough. Good base for ceracoating is the best that can be said for it. The cylinder lockup was not awesome to the point I thought it was defective, sent it back in for warranty repair and when I got it back the problem was worse. Its not out of time, but its not confidence inspiring.
Save up and buy a 686+ or one of the 8-shot revolvers that S&W make. You will be much happier with that than this.
Ive had one for years now and its always worked great but ive also never shot it as it came from taurus. I bought it to learn how to modify revolvers and its a great option if thats your goal. Finish is meh but i expected that
Everything I’ve read about these is that they can have some QC issues and may have timing issues after a number of rounds, but it’s the aesthetic I want and I won’t feel bad about dropping it or getting it dirty
