I find it strange how India fixates on these trappings of wealth - space programs and 'sleek sleeper trains' and subways and so on, but hasn't yet solved its many many many more pressing issues, like people shitting in the street, or water that's wildly unhealthy to drink, or a vast percentage of the population living in what would in the west be considered conditions unfit to dump waste much less inhabit.

Tbh the country itself doesn't fixate on these trappings , it's a loud minority online who do it. India is improving at an impressive pace in a lot of things (manufacturing , nuclear, sanitation, housing for the masses). It takes time for a country with such a huge population to adequately distribute wealth and provide services last mile.

still not enough to be concerned a superpower, they should consider education, enforcing hygiene and they should start campaigns to clean their rivers, roads and the country. They should try to clean their air, the air quality is shit you're basically inhaling farts. They should put efforts into fighting corruption, if that shit hole keeps building a billion modern trains it'll still remain a shit hole, the problem isn't the economy, it's the people running the country and the people living in it.

This is really sad. The old Indian railways was bloody awesome. There was no doors or windows and you just throw your trash out the side of the train. Remember smoking a joint in the middle of the carriage and falling asleep using a soccer ball as a pillow while the seats next to me were occupied by a guy with 7 chickens.
