Happy Friday fellow Xennials! I'm working on my Xennial corner. How am I doing?

This is all still work in progress so I'll fix the cabling nightmare after I decide exactly what needs to go where. I have a Wii and OG Xbox coming in soon so that will add to the set up. I've a gap for an Xbox signage too. I'm looking for any suggestions on what I could add to complete it.

Thanks! I’ve got the OG Xbox and Wii to arrive next along with the Xbox lamp in that gap you see on the wall. I’m using up around nine power points and there is so much tv cabling and daisy chaining to get everything to connect properly. However even now, with the lamps on and the TV the mood is so 2000s. It feels like stepping back in time. Pretty much everything is analog and offline. The DVD player doubles up as a CD player and everything is hooked up to a good speaker so sounds good. I’ve really enjoyed this fun project and would encourage anyone else to do the same!

OMG I Totally forgot about the TMNT! Now I need to find figurines for that set up! This is exactly the kind of feedback I wat hoping for! OMG, it just hit me.... I also need a dose of WWF and He-Man action figures and put up lots of shelves to showcase them.

Yeah! It’s the Beach movie in DVD through a CRT. The sound was terrible from that 2001 mono speaker but the dvd player has an optical out port so I was able to hook it up to my soundbase and enjoy crisp digital sound from Moby. The whole package is amazing to watch and listen too. Baby Leo looks as fresh as his Titanic days as i will always remember him doing

I would love to have more posters but then I would have to expand the space and even get a bigger CRT which is the main issues for me as they are so hard to come by. CDs like Bjork and Blur still sound incredibly good 30 years later. That part of the quality of entertainment never faded. CDs on a decent speaker still sound better than anything Ive heard streaming and my local thrift store sells 90s CD albums for £1 a pop so Im not finally able the enjoy the best music in the best form for next to nothing 30 years later

That movie was too extremely rebel even for me! I must have seen a pirate VHS copy smuggled into to school and played on the school TV during lunch break when the teachers were not around and having lunch. I never got it back in the 90s but I might need to revisit that movie.

One RGB scart input in the TV with a Wii, PS2, OG Xbox, VCR and DVD plus the issue of pumping the sound to a soundbar to keep the best sound while retaining RGB scart quality when if the set up didn’t work it would default to nasty component? I’d say cable management presents itself a problem for those who care about optimal retro sound and video quality for those who care for it. It’s easy to step down to simpler cabling solutions if you’re ok taking a hit on sound and video quality.

First, fuck Blockbuster. Second, if you’re getting an Xbox, I highly recommend looking into modding and Xbmc. Not suggesting anything untoward, of course ... Even a good condition Xbox is quite old now, and the disc drives are increasingly difficult to replace and will eventually fail. Also, compatible HDDs aren’t getting any cheaper. As console modding goes, Xbox modding is actually quite simple and well worth it. You can rip a game from your disc straight onto your hard drive, as well as ripping CDs for the custom soundtrack feature, not have to worry about eventual disc drive failures, and have your entire library available at once.

My OG Xbox is coming with the Duke controller! I am so pumped and excited for that beat. I was a Sega nut and hated Sony for killing them and I had no time for kiddy Nintendo that my baby siblings enjoyed because i would never let them touch my Sega Genesis, Sega CD with Night trap. Sega was not for kiddies so I was all in as a grown man to jump into OG Xbox. I was also so pumped by the raw specs of the Xbox and America had entered the traditionally Japanese only console market. The Xbox was going to be a over powered muscle car of the console industry and I just couldnt wait to play Halo, a game that would blow every other game, even on the PC away on a home console. Ive had some exchanges with the Xbox seller and its in good condition. As you can see I have made some space for a Xbox wall lamp too. I was looking at modding I might use the OG Xbox to play movies though its USB ports on the CRT but Ive left the homebrew to the homebrew king that is the OG Wii.

Not a lot of homebrew on Xbox, but it also supports a ton of emulators. Coin-Ops is worth looking into. Supports damned near everything up to PSX. Especially with a CRT, it would be a great way to broaden your options without buying a lot of hardware.

Cable management just sucks when the tv had just a single golden RGB Scart input and a mono speaker and you decide to somehow connect all those analogue devices to to CRT without the signals conflicting. Im rediscovering problems that were very much a 90s thing that irks my 2026 mindset today. It just feels like a total Lego puzzle but is seems we were ok with all that back in the day

I know right? Plus all these cables are analogue so you can’t just plug them into some kind of HDMI digital hub. I had to find all these old 90s style scart Switches that were built in metal like tanks and need their own dc power supply.

I bought a 14" CRT which I bought for $100 and then I just added posters, laps, a VHS player, DVD player and then the OG PS2 and I have the OG Xbox and Wii coming in soon. Then I picked up some VHS tapes and DVDs from my local thrift store and some posters from there and LED lamps from Ebay. All in, I dont think I spent more than $300 for my whole set up as all the equipment is used when a PS5 Pro would set me back $1000 without even a game.
