Olive green vs camo poncho

Hey guys. Wondering if I should get an olive green poncho to remain more “gray man” looking within city limits, or camo to have better ability to hide in the brush. What are y’all’s opinions?
I plan on getting a wobbie liner to match it, should I get a pack cover as well or is a poncho good enough?

I’m a fan of the disposable clear plastic ones…. cheap, cheerful, work well enough for the urban environment, make you look poor and not worthy of harrassment. Pack a couple so if one tears you have another, or to be able to give one away if you choose to.

Can repurpose the torn/worn ones too

With a little tape or ingenuity they make a great improvised solar green house 😉 if you ever have to bag trees to drink plant respiration… they would work for that. Or wrap around a backpack to keep it dry, or anything else a sheet of clear plastic works for.

Is anyone else going to be walking around in poncho’s? Because the idea in an Urban setting after a disaster is to blend in, not stand out.

"We have to carry two rifles,"
Who is we in this sentence, who is requiring them to carry multiple rifles, and why are they not sure if they'll be in a city or forest?
This is ragebait right?
PrisonerV@reddit
What color socks you thinking about?

i’ve decided camo, because if i’m taking my boots off to get my fifth backup knife out, I’d like to stay a little hidden amongst the greenery.
If I’m within a city, at least it’ll let people know I mean business.
Skalgrin@reddit
Well, one would assume, you would stay little hidden amongst the greenery even with the olive green, but I am not sure about your agenda just now.

Neon flamingo.
PrisonerV@reddit
One does want a hint of color.

I have experience multi days hiking through rain/freezing rain.
You need a backpack cover AND a backpack poncho like a forclaz.
Unfortunately it is a tradeoff of weight/Cals consumed.
After having experienced hiking 30-35 miles during rainy days,
I rather have less wet weight and be more energy efficient, than carrying a lighter setup and one day encounter heavy rain and have my pack/clothes weight 30-40% more and unable to move in a purposeful pace or at risk of getting sick, and worse, develope friction blisters.
I also carried 4 ultralight paracord. During all day rain I practiced attaching the paracord to each corner of the backpack poncho, and stretching it to trees so I could duck underneath and prepare a meal or a small fire. It takes practice but very efficient at staying mostly dry in a shitty rainy day

Every new pack I get I spray down first with Camp Dry. Medical kit bags as well. Soak them a time or two first, let them dry out and then put them to use.
They will shed a fair amount of rain after this. Still... dry bags are your friend for certain items.

Step 1: get out of debt
Step 2: fill your emergency fund
Step 3: secure alternative income source
Step 4: water
Step 5: shelf stable food
.
.
Step 64: olive poncho

If you’re going for “grey man” olive still isn’t the way to go. Get a clear or plain color like black or orange. Something that would make you look like part of the crowd.
Grey man is about blending in. Most people aren’t rocking olive drab gear on the daily so you’ll stick out just as much as the camo one.

Your idea of prepping and my idea of prepping are clearly in different universes. In no circumstance would I ever expect myself to be hiding out in a forest, trying to conceal a rifle under any color of poncho, unless for some reason I woke up in the Fallout universe. This post has messed up my vibes so I’m gonna go buy a couple more cases of water and double-check how many inhalers I have because those are things I would actually need to worry about prepping for
pigeonwithhat@reddit (OP)
Yes, that’s how prepping works. People have different priorities. And circumstances.
tragicxharmony@reddit
Yep, and some of them are more realistic than others 😂
pigeonwithhat@reddit (OP)
go get your inhaler bro
AmosTali@reddit
brite white in case you need it in winter.

Is your plan to leave the city and go rural or to stay in the city?
Is your camouflage or are you worried about rain and weather?
pigeonwithhat@reddit (OP)
That’s the thing, I wasn’t really sure. We opted for olive green, girlfriend was adamant we don’t seem militant with camo.
JRHLowdown3@reddit
I love these types of things- people want a Dora The Explorer pack because then they "won't stand out" like someone with quality gear will. BS.
If you have a pack, you have stuff, if you have stuff you could be a target for a looter. Whether it's a Dora the Explorer pack or a Kifaru... Your NOT going to be ignored by the bad guys simply because the color of your pack...
Particular-Try5584@reddit
Grey and black are more urban colours…
Many-Health-1673@reddit
Olive green is probably fine, but if you are concerned about it, it wouldn't hurt to carry some camouflage veiling or netting for more concealment.
Traditional-Leader54@reddit
I have both and I use the olive green way more in public.
Routine_Awareness413@reddit
Mine is bright orange. If I could get one with in hi-vis I would get that. I am way more likely to be using it while stranded by the road or walking home in the dark with cars on the road than anything else.
bapachonz@reddit
Grey, at a distance, I’m you just disappear.

Lol some people are really living in fantasies in this sub.
Highlifetallboy@reddit
Some? Try almost all.
Pando5280@reddit
Neutral colors. And I avoid going full camo in any environment that doesn't invove actively hunting something. That said where I live most folks wear something camo and its normal but thats because its normal for where I live and they'd all stick out in the city
jazzbiscuit@reddit
Camo only helps if your camo pattern matches your surroundings... I was issued gear with 8 different military camo patterns, none of them are interchangeable or all purpose.
More_Dependent742@reddit
First, even in sparse cover, OG is hard to spot unless you are looking for it or very close up.
Second, even cam patterns need to have the shape and silhouette broken up. Cam pattern is the beginning of camouflage and not the end. Learn about the 7 Ss of camouflage.
To see how even OG or drab can be part of great camouflage, check out this training video from 4 years into the Second World War (or 1 year in, for most people in this thread )

So in sum, grey man grey man grey man.
BaylisAscaris@reddit
In most emergencies, olive green would be better. In a city you want to blend in and not look military or survivalist. Most reasons someone is in the woods you want to be found, and if you are hiding you can take other measures to hide. Think about where you will wear the poncho more often. Personally I have a black poncho because I'm goth and it makes people leave me alone and matches my aesthetic. Make sure you also have something high visibility in case you want to be seen, ex. crossing the road at night, lost in the woods.
AlphaDisconnect@reddit
The one with goretex. Thinner the better. Lots of pockets. Gusseting on the elbows so they dont wear through. And a good zipper.
smsff2@reddit
In any conceivable emergency scenario, your survival rate does not depend on the color of the poncho you are wearing. Personally, I would choose olive green.
