Absolute cheapest way to get to Hartford CT from Vancouver BC and back

After doing plenty of research myself I have found that likely the cheapest way to go will be a flight to JFK airport in new york then a bus to CT. I was hoping to depart any time after June 2nd and arrive back the following week. Seems like the cheapest flights I can find are around $335 and buses are around $37 (all Canadian dollars)
I'm not super great at math though so if anyone can help that would be great! I've literally never travelled outside of BC before in my entire life so I have very little experience here. I love airplanes so much that I do not care about how good of an experience it is, I'll just be happy to be on an airplane at all, especially since after my journey is over i'll finally get to see my partner :)

Honestly, your JFK + bus idea is probably already close to the sweet spot. The only thing I’d check is flights into Boston, too. Sometimes the airfare randomly drops there, and the bus/train down to Hartford is pretty manageable. Newark can also surprise you with cheaper flights, even if the airport experience feels like being trapped inside a stressed-out casserole.
Also, first trip outside BC and flying across the continent to see your partner is such a memorable way to start traveling. I still remember staring out the airplane window the first time I crossed that much distance and realizing how huge everything was. Airport food hits differently when you’re excited and sleep deprived, too.

Getting west from Boston is surprisingly annoying so just plan that carefully if you choose to fly into Boston. Hartford is a great little airport but adds cost for sure. Have fun!

Could get a flight with Breeze Airways, from LAX to BDL then a regional flight from LAX to YVR?

you can also take metro north from grand central to new haven, then there is public transport to hartford or your partner could possibly get you from there, as it’s only $40 min away.
don’t forget the transit costs from whatever nyc airport you’re flying into and port authority/grand central.
google maps is incredible for helping you get around nyc and finding out public transit so you can get up to ct. you can set arrival or departure times to compare transit at different times of the day, as well as

Could also take the train rather than a bus from NYC to Hartford. If you book far enough in advance, you can usually get amtrak tickets from Penn Station to Hartford Union for $34. Otherwise can take Metronorth from grand central to new haven and then the ct rail hartford line from new haven to Hartford, i think thats around $40-50 depending on peak vs off peak. Train is faster and more comfortable than a bus personally.

Boston is closer than JFK. Look at flying into Hartford (Bradley).

At the risk of asking the obvious, do you have a passport?

I'm waiting for my birth certificate to get here. I know I'll have to wait longer than just June 2nd I just said that because that's the day i pick up my first paycheque of the month

If money saving it the absolute top priority, you might consider busing down to Seattle, and flying out of there to avoid all of the extra Canadian airline fees, and taxes. One look at Google Flights, and you'll save about $130 ( $408 for Seattle, $534 for Vancouver ) for basically the same flight, and they both land in Hartford ( either way ). The whole New York, then bus plan seems like overkill, and does not save you that much.

Bus to Seattle and fly from SEA. The absolute cheapest way is to walk.
