I don’t understand how people can overlook where the hood and bumper panels come together. It’s not smooth. There’s a weird hitch between the two panels that makes them look badly paint matched when the sun hits it.
Saw a CT5 Blackwing in person for the first time the other day. Holy shit. Knew it was a Blackwing from down the block seeing how aggressive that front grill is. Black, with a stick. What a car.
It’s all I could notice the first time I saw an M2 in person. It’s really bizarre that, in my opinion, the best looking front end treatment for this generation of 2 is the absolute base 230i spec.
Yes I dislike the front end on this car. That weird transition you mentioned. The funky blocks on the bumper. The kidneys being deep inset with no trim.
From most other angles the car looks good, and it doesn’t need very many changes on the front to look great.
No matter how it looks, it’s a pretty sweet car.
I think the biggest boon for it is that it comes in a bunch of stellar paint options so it always is eye catching.
Almost every one I see is either in Sao Paulo yellow, Twilight purple metallic or Vegas red metallic. Twilight purple in particular is an absolutely gorgeous color.
I still think it looks like a modern-day knockoff of a clapped out Tercel and is basically the opposite of what it replaced, but the actual performance outweighs that.
I used to be right there with you and thought the F87 was peak M2 styling, it was just going to be downhill from here on out
But after seeing more and more of these in person, BMW absolutely nailed it. It looks so tough and angular in person and I love how rather than just make it a "squished" version of the existing M4, they were able to pull this off
I am slowly coming around on this car.
I do wonder how it will hold up once the M2 XDrive comes out however.
Still not the biggest fan of the styling considering how incredible the F87 M2 CS looked, especially being about 350 lbs lighter, and offering a 6 speed manual.
The xDrive version coming is such a big piece for me too. Hoping it gets more official info released soon; an AWD sports car/coupe has always been my dream combo (manual would be ideal trifecta).

But then you look at the M4 Comp XDrive and can get way over that price, and still not have it be fully loaded haha.
You can get it to that price without even having Carbon bucket seats, of carbon ceramic brakes.

Even the Elise eventually offered (optional) cupholders. This not having them makes me think BMW removed them for the sole reason of making the car look more raw. Just silly for a RWD that couldn't get below 3700 lbs.
Last gen M2 was so handsome. I guess this one just isn't for me. I really want to like it.
The interior is godawful. I had a friendly chat with a guy at the gas pump about his M3 and he said his biggest regret was that he couldn’t get the pre-LCI.
I keep watching videos of people being stupid with G87's, and everytime they make it look so much fun.
Especially with a proper tune, and a nice exhaust.
