Looking for car build channels without the obnoxious youtube editing and stock music
Posted by TheKidSaturn@reddit | projectcar | View on Reddit | 96 comments
I really hate the editing and music of most car channels. I come across silent or low editing videos every now and then and im just looking for more channels like that, preferably channels working on cars that are 2000's or older.
Chevrolicious@reddit
Vice Grip Garage is a good guy to follow
NeighborhoodLanky138@reddit
A fella really enjoys that guy
Only_Jury_8448@reddit
Simon Fordman is exactly what you're looking for; no speaking, no background music, just the ambient sounds of working on a car and the wider environment.
OutsideAd3064@reddit
I have to chime in and agree with this. I was recommended his channel a while ago and was like "but there is no dialogue" and didnt watch. But one day I had watched all the usuals and clicked play on one of his videos. Now, I have a 20 year old son in film school and I am a die hard car guy since the 80s and I have to tell you...this guy makes films. Shots are clearly carefully planned. It catches your interest without any speaking. He is a very talented guy. I have watched them all now. I appreciate them for the car content and the "cinematography"
LowerSlowerOlder@reddit
You are so right. Simon is my favorite. Other folks make YouTube videos, Simon makes art.
Doctah_Whoopass@reddit
Gotta watch with subtitles, thats where the explanations are!
madmax_087@reddit
SimonFordan is the only channel I really like. His shots are so good, although he often leaves his camera places. I'm always thinking, dont use that old part Simon, you fool! And then he does it anyway, and it works, and it turns out great (or not).
Low Buck Garage can also be entertaining in the style of budget building and reusing old parts.
Doctah_Whoopass@reddit
Its like hes been plucked from the 80s/90s, that guy has such a good vibe.
Only_Jury_8448@reddit
Folks from St. Paul are pretty cool in my experience
mspalding75@reddit
Simon really is that dude, every video is long-form (1.5-2 hours usually) with little to no commentary apart from notes in the subtitles you can follow along with. His videos are all shot like they’re trying to win indie film festival awards, it’s such a great vibe top to bottom
nastonius@reddit
Came to recommend Simon.
mbardeen@reddit
Simon is great. His cinematography alone puts him above so many other channels.
hawkman1000@reddit
Found his channel last Dec and pounce on every new video he puts out.
Tobias---Funke@reddit
Early Wheeler dealers is good.
But thats on tv and streaming.
ClosedL00p@reddit
Good luck
THE_BARCODE_GUY@reddit
If you watch the back catalogue of Street Bandito it’s so wholesome and just makes you feel like one of the guys in the garage. I so wish they had kept up with the channel and uploading videos
lunarc@reddit
Yeah man, they were really hitting their stride and X’s editing was really getting so good
Bingo1dog@reddit
The making of the carbon fiber parts tickles a certain part of my brain. Really hope they come back again
ToniV8@reddit
I'll make sure to check that channel out, as that's how I feel about Rather B Welding. https://youtube.com/@ratherbweldingchris?si=PNB4JpL5bZPR7r0x
Achachay@reddit
M539 Restorations is the least obnoxious car build channel I've found, it helps he owns one of the same cars as me. Mostly older BMWs.
lunarc@reddit
Coooming up!
TheKidSaturn@reddit (OP)
Perfect, thanks
Legitimate-Doubt-192@reddit
Zakk Johnson he does multiple part, no talking, no music, just the sounds of working, with great cinematography. He’s finishing up a caddy at the moment but is supposed to be working on some others soon.
LeaflooDallas@reddit
A channel called “my mechanics” has a cool series fully restoring a Datsun. He mostly makes super detailed restoration videos of old things, but his new Datsun series is nice. No taking, just pure restoration.
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN0SuqPcbLqGvImGUuOaCsLXTseGiBN02&si=v5fU0MO-vzLNeO-R
CrazyErniesUsedCars@reddit
He'll probably be done around 2052 but hot damn do I enjoy every minute of it
LeaflooDallas@reddit
Haha right? It always amazes me how he just makes perfect new screws and bits. Insane precision, zero rush.
Acc87@reddit
Fitting the Swiss stereotype so well 😁
Ghazh@reddit
Vice Grip Garage
MyNamesMikeD75@reddit
You probably already know about it but I'll mention Vicegrip Garage
Tyler5280@reddit

Rebuild a supercharger with me. Or just watch me do it. Whatever.

HunterDirection great story telling,cool cars (e30,s4 b5,s6...)
Obnoxious_Gamer@reddit
Dead Dodge Garage is a good one. Super knowledgeable guy and no music at all.
Lord-Cartographer55@reddit
I will shill this Finnish dude FOREVER, really appreciate that he is doing it for the joy of making the vehicle better than it left the factory. The car he is restoring a early 70s Opel GT and it was a total rust bucket from Germany.
It's called "GT1900 Garage" and it has been that once a month update that I look forward to the most for a couple years now.
I also give a total thumbs up to anything from the Bad Obsession channel. I want desperately for them to make a T- shirt that has the door sheet metal image they used for Project Binky on the front and " Make your Jokes" on the back.
Doctah_Whoopass@reddit
I love that guys stuff but his videos keep having these weird distortions and idk if its image stabilization or shitty compression or what.

Stock music is used because it's free and they don't need to worry about copyright infringement.
rexjoropo@reddit
Sound like exactly the wrong answer bruh.
OutsideAd3064@reddit
Disagree. Junkyard Digs makes me grind my teeth. I have tried multiple times and he just annoys me.
TheKidSaturn@reddit (OP)
I dont need an explanantion on stock music, it is 2026. Im saying id prefer no music at all, much less stock music;.
Orcapa@reddit
Agreed.
Baldemyr@reddit
Simonfordman is awesome. We'll filmed and no annoying music or voiceovers
FortuneHeart@reddit
Maybe mine? I do use instrumentals to fill the space when I’m Not talking, so you don’t have to hear ratchet clicks and swear words
yt_BWTX@reddit
mustie1 is the OG
zenwren@reddit
Carter Auto Restyling seems to intentionally put unusual music into his videos.
mbardeen@reddit
Carter is one of my recent faves. Kyle is very low key.
zenwren@reddit
Yeah, I wish I had found his channel before I did the metalwork on my 50 Chevy. He's a wizard with smashed up old junk.
mbardeen@reddit
I need to do metal work on my 1970 C10 and I was looking for tips to do so and his channel popped up.

FitzeesFabrication. Metal work/fabrication with simple basic tools. This guy is a wizard I learned alot from him, including the confidence to tackle something that seems impossible.
IronGigant@reddit
Bad Obsession Motorsports has intro, outro, and occasional montage music, but otherwise primarily subjects you to dry British humour amidst the cacophony of an automotive workshop shoehorning the entire running gear from a Toyota GTS-4 into a stock-length Mini Cooper chassis.
It's beautiful.
Madder_Than_Diogenes@reddit
There's an Australian one called 'Backshed' that I enjoy.
He loves to get abandoned cars driving again and put some cool wheels on them and he shares his thoughts and stuff ups along the way.
It's nice & slow car content created by a good bloke.
https://youtube.com/@backshed5295
mr_j_12@reddit
As an australian, never heard of him. Will suss it out.
BigBronco@reddit
Brew2L
It’s Mustang focused but it’s good.
Also, Turbo Tom’s Garage to watch his old stuff which is great. He’s on hiatus due to cancer/family unfortunately
mr_j_12@reddit
Turbo tom is back, kind of.
majikmike@reddit
Project Binky and B is for Build (maybe)
mr_j_12@reddit
Binky yes. B is for bodgy, fuck no.
mr_j_12@reddit
Bad obsession motor sports. John ludwik. Build create.
firestorm734@reddit
It's motorcycle content, but Allen Millyard is exactly what you're looking for.
navlgazer9@reddit
The damn music is so annoying
As is all the long intro
I don’t need two minutes of crap music and exciting edits before you start showing me how to get the upper intake manifold off
orbitup@reddit
Rotter's Garage is good but he hasn't put out anything lately.

Beat me to it ..and Baked Beans Garage is mentioned above.
SoftCosmicRusk@reddit
Shed Racing. No obnoxious editing; in fact there's very little editing at all. It's just an old British geezer repairing or restoring old cars - some from the 1970's, but mostly older - while sharing wisdom from his lifetime of experience.
Very low production value. Might seem slow and boring at first. But in my opinion it's one of the best channels out there.
t_bison@reddit
I'll have to check him out
162630594@reddit
I'm a big fan of dead dodge garage
t_bison@reddit
It's him or Pole Barn Garage for my current faves
M0NSTER4242@reddit
I've found British content a lot less obnoxious, if that's of use?
Camarupim@reddit
RRC restorations is great. No music, what little chat he gives is in a Scottish accent, and he does real nuts and bolts restoration. He leans towards bike content - which is excellent - but his Honda CRX car rebuild might be exactly what OP is looking for.
TheKidSaturn@reddit (OP)
Could be, thanks
punkassjim@reddit
Not >2000, but if you haven’t watched Project Binky, you’re in for a treat.
Dedward5@reddit
Soup is a good one, mazing production quality (Esprit) https://youtu.be/SnhBiViKgnA?si=m-SHkzFvZcv8pI5p
Psych0matt@reddit
I love Prizzamike’s videos, he seems like such an awesome dude that just wants to share his passion for working on cars, skating, and having fun with friends.
Aleutian_Solution@reddit
Mine has a few videos of me working on my Hudson and my 83 suburban. I’m a dog shit editor so there’s no music, but other than that it fits both requirements. @ID10T Innovations.
PeeDidy@reddit
VTEC Academy and Speed Academy if you like Honda content

They more restore cars, not build them, but I like watching Junkyard Digs

I have a channel that doesn't have obnoxious editing, music is debatable though...
It's Jim Builds - I'd appreciate you giving it a try.
It's mainly the rebuild of my mk1 cortina GT, I'm part way through an mx5 5 speed gearbox swap and converting the original engine to efi.

Jimmy Oakes, Stay Tuned, Bigtime.

Mymechanics YouTube has lots of tool restorations as well as an old 240-280 Z car. Only sounds are tools working.
sgt_Berbatov@reddit
Could try mine if you want? https://www.youtube.com/@MyWifeHatesThisCar
Highest bit of praise I received from it: it's like watching someone get ever more depressed at the realisation that they made a huge mistake. And there is music on it, although it's all stuff I've written/made. Nothing stock.
mbardeen@reddit
I've got just the playlist for you! All ASMR No commentary mechanics.
