I worked with a guy who knew everyone, particularly in every bar. I’ll call him Keith. He also had teleportation or cloning technology as you’d leave a bar he was in, go to another bar - and he’d be there before you. I did a pub crawl in London for a birthday and he joined us. We were getting off a tube and heard someone yell ‘Keith! Keith!’ It was the tube driver. Everyone knew Keith.

Won't say where I'm from but I'm sure everyone has got someone like this in their city/town. There's a man we call sleepy Dave. He's an alcohol junkie. He used to be found passed out in the middle of forest trails, parks and back alleys. I've had to help him get home in the past. A few years back I found him in the woods. From what I can surmise he was stumbling through there at night and fell from a higher ridge onto a trail below (massive dent in the mud below him) and chose to sleep there. I was heading to college in the morning, and I was going to walk past and pretend I didn't see him but I woke him up and took him back to the city. He was holding to this cheap bottle of gin the whole time like I was going to take it off him.

It was Gavin. He died about 8 years ago. Miss him. He was such a lovely bloke who would do absolutely anything for anyone. He would bring flowers for my mum was she was dying. He bought all the kids books in the charity shop and would give them out to any kids he saw. Great bloke.

We had Karaoke Karen. Every day in the 90s and 2000s she'd be outside the shopping centre with a boombox dancing. Not professionally trained dancing, full on dance like no one's watching dancing. Sadly she'd get abuse pretty often but most people knew her as happy and harmless. The streets were lined with people for her funeral. RIP Karen 💃🏻

Not really related, but a girl I used to know was on drugs once and a passenger in a high speed chase in which the driver ended up crashing at speed. They said the drugs saved her life because she didn’t tense on impact. She was injured, but could’ve been much worse if she’d have been aware of her surroundings!

My dad. He’s lived in the area for all his 55 years. He is also a hairdresser who used to have his own salon on the high street. By being so similar looking, I’d also add that I may also be that person. I know many people in town. But strangers come up to me asking how I am etc. I’m clueless until they go “oh I’m \*name\* I know your dad! You’re the image of him when he was younger”.

In my early 20s in Southampton there was a guy who worked in the various suit shops (he moved around). Brilliant guy. Always upbeat and friendly. Genuinely nice guy. He always seemed to recognise or know everyone. When I'd mention 'the guy from the suit shop' almost everyone I knew would know who I meant. I'm still friends with him on Facebook. So yeah, the suit shop guy (he does have a name, but I'm not going to out him on the Internet. If you were out and about in Southampton about 20 years ago, you probably know who he is). In my current town, we had a famous cat. Tilly. She lived near the town centre and everyone knew her. She had her own fb page. Sadly she was hit by a car. The town raised money to have a bronze statue of her put up in her favourite napping spot and a plaque commemorating her. Everyone in our town knows Tilly.

My neighbour. She has lived in this town for 75+ years and is always out the front chatting to different people. Same with her husband who passed a few years ago. On his funeral day tens, maybe hundreds of people lined the street to see him / the hearse off. The funeral attendance would have been huge too were it not for the shitty Covid restrictions.

Now, this will be quite telling of where I’m from to anyone in nearby towns, but in my day it was Skinner Morris. The town drunk. He’d regularly be found asleep on a town centre bench, and if he was awake he’d be hurling abuse at random passers by. Legend had it that he was actually very very wealthy, via inheritance, but the terms of actually having the inheritance was based on him becoming sober. Which he was never able to do. No idea if there was any truth in that, but it was the story we all told
