I love riding my bike but I have a bad knee and join sciatic damage that was making it difficult for me to bike more than about 1 or 2 miles without pain for the rest of the day. And I felt so unstable that I was scared even just biking around my neighborhood. I work from home and I didn't want to have to take the car out for every simple chore. So I purchased and Aventon Pace 4! I love it! I'm still getting used to it. Any speed over 15 mph makes me scared, š. But I get the joy of bike riding without the pain of tearing up my knee. And, even at the highest setting, my leg is getting the benefits of the movement. Today was the first day I took it to the grocery store and I managed three bags, evenly balanced. I'm so happy I did this!

Thatās awesome, really glad itās working out for you. The āunder 15 mph feels safeā part is totally normal at the start; those bikes can feel a bit wild until your balance and confidence catch up. Sounds like you made a smart choice, especially if itās getting you out riding without the knee pain. Enjoy it

There's nothing wrong with keeping it below 15mph. The motor works better at lower speeds anyway and your battery life will be better. Good choice btw.
I love seeing e-bikes make it possible for more people to go out and ride.

Yeah, I'm amazed at how fast I see some people take these bikes in Chicago.
Joose__bocks@reddit
I go 28mph but only because I'm on roads where the speed limit is 35 and folks are driving 45. On Greenways and stuff I keep it low and slow and I just don't ride on sidewalks. I've also been in the same small city for years so I remember every pothole and route quirk lol.

I drive on a 30mph road to work with regular speed checks under the speed limit signs, and cars routinely fly by at 50mph. Very few cars are going under 40mph. It's a residential street too.

Preaching to the choir with that comment! I see the same every day Iām riding a rather heavy bike with a conversion so I canāt really get past 23 mph even though it should be capable of more and Iām happy with that it makes an 8.5 mile trip to work a breeze. Funny thing is all these laws they keep dumping on us especially speed limits in bike lanes on streets the city of Chicago wants us to be under 20 mph when cars commonly do 30 to 40on side streets and the main streets are worse. Donāt get me started on no enforcement of parking rules for bike lanes because cops refuse to bother even when they drive past one, I had to move into traffic to get around a stopped uber picking up food and a cop behind me hits the speaker to say keep your bike out of traffic not Iāll ticket him for completely blocking the bike lane!
Strong-Delay-3986@reddit
Man. Isn't this the truth. I live in Washington DC where there are bike lanes everywhere. But there is truly no enforcement as far as people hogging them go. It never fails. Every day I run across someone parking their car right in the bike lane and Uber drivers distance sitting there in them. It even blows my wind when I see people walking on them and refuse to get out of the way when I come riding through. I've even ran across people standing in the middle of the bike lane just scrolling o. Their phone and refuse to move out of the way. I swear, it seems like even in a city like mine where bikes are comon and bike lanes are incorporated, I truly appears that only people who own bikes, ebikes and electric scooters are the only people who respect or even notice bike riders. Nobody respects our spaces or our lanes. Not even the police enforce our paces. I have even had to go around a cop who was parked right in the middle of the bike lane, and didn't even acknowledge my presence when I was forced to merge into car traffic to get around him. It's just insanity.

I feel the pain i also have cops as the biggest offenders usually grabbing coffee or lunch and the place has a parking lot and a drive through!

Familiarity lets you ride more confidently without relying purely on reaction time.

Honestly this sounds like the perfect reason to get an ebike. Still getting to enjoy riding without putting yourself through pain is such a win. And grocery runs on a bike always make you feel weirdly accomplished lol

I dug around for awhile to find something I liked. The brand is Tourbon. I found these on Amazon because the Tourbon website has mostly sporting gun stuff, not so much with the dainty flower decor š.
