Ford’s US April sales are even worse with Bronco Sport down 11.5% and Maverick sales down 29.7% even with Escape discontinued.

Looks like Escape buyers/owners are not flocking to Ford’s other affordable options, the Bronco Sport and Maverick as Ford hoped as they have moved on to other brands’ competitors. Told ya exiting the most popular segment with no direct replacement at all was always a bad idea. Ford paid the price and now they are in free fall in the US just like other parts of the world by being greedy Farley himself.
DaBombDiggidy@reddit
I mean who would have thought the originally 20k Maverick that they couldn't keep on the lot isn't selling as well when all of them at dealers near me are 32-35k?
dootytootybooty@reddit
Every person I know with a Maverick has a Lariat trim. They all paid high 20’s-low 30’s. Most Maverick buyers didn’t buy the XL as a daily bc frankly it kinda sucked.
DaBombDiggidy@reddit
I thought the Lariat got close to 40s? It's what turned me away from one a few years ago, just polished shit at that price.
dootytootybooty@reddit
Most were bought in 22-23.
I just double checked with my buddy that got a fully loaded lariat with the 2.0 and awd and it was 37k OTD but he did have A-Plan. So it was closer to 36k before taxes, fees, and before his discounts.
I know a few years ago, 24MY?, Ford made AWD standard on the Lariat so it did increase the price a few thousand there.
DrSpaceman575@reddit
I'm looking for one now, there are a handful around 36-38 but most are 40-42
dootytootybooty@reddit
I see about 450 new Maverick Lariats under $37,500 nationwide. I didn’t look to in-depth into them though.
AndreLeGeant88@reddit
Bronco Sport just doesn't feel like an Escape substitute. Like, the 2.0L is a good option for someone who wants to be a bit outdoorsy or feel like they're in a 4x4 but don't need a proper Bronco, Land Cruiser, etc. But the Escape appealed to a huge cross section of customers that have no interest in 4x4 capabilities or boxy looking quasi off-roaders
pedropedro1@reddit
I recently had one as a rental and man it was so numb and cheap it made me hate driving anywhere
AndreLeGeant88@reddit
Escape of Bronco sport?
pedropedro1@reddit
Bronco sport.
Sufficient_Jello_1@reddit
Also and I think this is worth mentioning, the younger buyer doesn’t want to be known as the person “who couldn’t afford an actual bronco”.
GOA_AMD65@reddit
Bronco II was an actual Bronco just smaller. The Bronco Sport is not that.
man__i__love__frogs@reddit
Though the Bronco sport is class leading in off-road capability. Better than any Subaru Wilderness, Passport Trailsport, etc...
People have done crazy things with them. https://youtu.be/-PZ3yQTIIrk?t=451&si=RQ8ARlL_b0Wq6YwF
Driving Sports TV also has a number of off road obstacles back to back by each. https://youtu.be/v8wPS7JcmqA?si=Xnuf5BJkSlV5WFGW
BlazinAzn38@reddit
And it clearly wasn’t one! When both were in the lineup the escape still outsold the escape, it was very obvious that escape buyers weren’t transitioning to the Bronco Sport but they did this anyways
AndreLeGeant88@reddit
My mom has a Corsair which is basically A high-end Escape. I actually think it's a very nice crossover for middle-aged person. There's no way she would drive a Bronco sport.
5tudent_Loans@reddit
Im suprised they didnt keep it alive just for this reason. Look at Toyotas lineup too loosely and you’ll wonder why they have so many freakin SUVs, but really they have a line of Offroad SUVs and a line of street SUVs, then you just pick the space you need
Equivalent-Battle973@reddit
I wonder if a big factor is that the escape was offered as PHEV and an a Hybrid option as well.
BlazinAzn38@reddit
I would imagine that’s a large part of it. They went from offering a fuel efficient crossover option two ways to not offering one at all. Very smart Ford
Drzhivago138@reddit
Aren't all brands' sales typically down in Q1?
mishap1@reddit
They're down YoY but some of Q1 last year was driven up by people trying to get cars before the first round of tariffs so it's weak but this quarter will show if it's persisting.
RiftHunter4@reddit
Every USDM brand is down right now because the US economy is awful.
billythygoat@reddit
Freaking gas is expensive. It just keeps fluctuating 60c/ gallon every week.
RawhlTahhyde@reddit
Is it though?
Ok_Field_5701@reddit
No it’s just easier to be a doomer on reddit than actually provide any facts or evidence.
Smokeydubbs@reddit
Not really. But redditors say it is.
TailoredHam88@reddit
The cars sales data doesn’t suggest it’s great.
ManufacturerBest2758@reddit
Because auto sales are most impacted by the sector that actually is awful
aroundincircles@reddit
it is for the have nots. People with steady jobs, homes, investments are doing pretty fantastic, yeah gas prices are up, but so are all of my investments.
If you have been out of markets, or struggle with steady employment, it's rough right now. I work in IT, and a lot of people have lost their jobs at these big companies recently and they are struggling to find new work.
FunnBuddy@reddit
This is true
trolllord45@reddit
Yes, in fact, it is.
ManufacturerBest2758@reddit
“The economy” isn’t awful, but gas prices and some high-end consumer electronics are dragging it down overall
HoldingThunder@reddit
But the tariffs!?!?!
Viperlite@reddit
Well that and car prices and loan terms are nearly as messed up as the housing market.
NewNick30@reddit
Yes but when doing sales comps they are doing year over year. So it's April 2025 vs 2026 and YTD 2025 vs 2026
Uniball38@reddit
This is comparing April 2026 to April 2025
lilaustonmattsue@reddit
And April 2025 was a giant month for them. Best truck sales in 25 years. So the change looks worse because of the basis not necessarily current sales. The Ford lineup has plenty of issues but this isn't sky is falling stuff.
dont_ama_73@reddit
Jeep/Stellantis had a up quarter
Repulsive-Club7866@reddit (OP)
Yes but Asian brands were down a lot less
airforcezero@reddit
maybe theyll exit the c/suv market like they did the sedan market and just sell f150s and mustangs
-Racer-X@reddit
i still trust farleys long term vision
Cheap EVs and hybrids will sell well when brought to market
company is still in a transition phase experiencing a lot of pain like most car makers who rotated too quickly
Repulsive-Club7866@reddit (OP)
To me Farley has been mostly all show and talk but no go
-Racer-X@reddit
he definitely has to land this new common platform LFP battery and hybrids
MayaIsSunshine@reddit
His brother was pretty funny in Tommy boy
mundotaku@reddit
I earn over 100k and I don't feel I can afford $800 on a car payment. I really don't understand how normal people do it.
stcv3@reddit
As an escape owner , I am in no way interested in anything bronco branded, even less in a maverick. My last two vehicles were Fords but there is nothing they offer as of right now that intrigues me.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit
I think the more interesting part to pay attention to is the F-Series having a 15% drop in sales YTD and the Explorer having a 20% gain in sales YTD.
The F-Series drop may be more telling about the overall state of the economy if anything.
sonnytron@reddit
I liked the Lightning. I wanted a Lightning. We were promised a $40k Lightning that would have been $32.5k after the EV credit. We wanted to buy a Lightning when the tax credit existed.
We got $60k standard range Lightning’s with $10k to $15k markup by dealers wanting to absorb the tax credit. We got like a few thousand Pro’s that only a select few purchased. We got $80k Extended Range Lightning’s.
And then they cancelled the model, citing slow sales and a lack of demand for EV’s.
I will never ever ever buy a gas truck ever ever again.
So I’ll wait for the day I can walk into a GM dealership and get a 350+ mile range full size, not chopped down Silverado EV for sub $60k and I’ll buy it.
lostboyz@reddit
Chrysler saw this when they killed Plymouth, they just assumed people would buy the Dodge/Chrysler equivalent but many just went somewhere else.
Anonymous_Dwarf@reddit
Caravans and Voyagers were everywhere in the 90s and early 2000s. Aerostars and Astros as well.
4thAndLong@reddit
Maybe they graduated up to real Broncos. Sales are up nearly 19%.
Uniball38@reddit
Total SUV sales down 16% though
techmaster242@reddit
They priced everyone out of the market.
black_flag_4ever@reddit
Go to any Ford dealership and you will quickly figure out why. It is so expensive to buy any Ford.
LBTerra@reddit
The Escape looked way better than the Bronco Sport and my 2017 was pretty reliable with the 2.0 Ecoboost. So dumb of them to assume people wanted the Bronco Spirt because IMO it is a major step down style wise.
dont_ama_73@reddit
I think the bigger issue is the f150 sales being down. That and the full size SUV's are the biggest profit for them
Cranjesmcbasketball1@reddit
My local Ford dealer keeps calling me telling me I have exclusive $2000 off plus employee discounts if I come purchase a vehicle. I haven't had a Ford in 10 years. Also, this is the same dealership that was marking everything up during and post COVID so fuck those guys.
