Hey y'all
I'm a full time pet sitter / walker, and I own a paid off 16 Nissan Rogue that is in transmission failure, at 98k miles. I'm looking for the most promissing (transmission) shops to call around for a lower price & good warranty around DFW. Thanks for any and all advice!

Check with Nissan, though they extended the original warranty to 84k miles there's a possibility they can be talked into a discounted replacement. Nissan's CVT transmissions are widely known for not being reliable in the long run.

I went that route first, but since im at 98k mileage and 3 years past that extension, they declined

Honestly, it may be time to consider the vehicle unrepairable and unload it for whatever you can get and buy something that's not a Nissan. Bear in mind the sunk cost fallacy.

Your mileage is about right for the Nissan CVT to give up the ghost. Don’t get a used one since you are paying for the same problem you have. CVT’s are actually quite simple mechanically but basically there are very few parts available for them. They are about $2500 for the transmission alone from the dealer, but that was before the orange shitgibbon went on his tariff tear so it might be more now. Then the next big cost is the labor to put it in.

The mechanic i deal with personally works in a transmission shop, and cheapest he's found is 2200, cheapest we've found is 1200 with 30 day warranty + mechanic charging $650 for labor which he will work out a payment plan with me for. My dad kept saying rebuild but mechanic says no one really rebuilds the CVT

They're right, especially for the Nissan CVTs. Their design causes them to fail at 100k.

For a new one from Nissan or a reman, $2200 is pretty good and should come with a warranty of at least three years. $650 for labor is dirt cheap, your mechanic must be a good friend.
Skip the $1200 used one, even with the 30 day warranty. LKQ is a bit of a pain with their warranties, and they are the largest single source of used major parts. Anyone else I wouldn’t trust at all on their warranty. When the transmission dies in day 45 you will have to pay your mechanic friend a second time and still pay for the next one. A $1200 used CVT will like have about 50k to 75k miles on it.

Thank you so much!

Cookson's Transmission shop in Duncanville is solid. They rebuilt the transmission for my 06 f150 (5speed manual) and did a fantastic job. 2 day turnaround.

Thank you! My mechanic mentioned difficulties i may have because most dont work with or rebuild CVT transmissions
