Should I upgrade to a 5800X3d or 5700X3d

I currently have a 3800X paired with a 7900XT, the build is decent and doing pretty good but I'm pretty CPU limited in high end games like cyberpunk or if I want to play shooters above 240fps. Is the 5700x3d or 5800X3d worth the upgrade or should I just do a a new CPU build from scratch with DDR5 (or DDR6 if the price never come down)?

Can you even get a 57/800X3D nowadays? I thought they were really hard to find at this point. But yeah, I would recommend either one if you can find one at a decent price.

Second hand yeah or scalped

wait for am4 10th anniversary relaunch. AMD is re-releasing the 5800x3d and maybe the 5700x3d depending on yields/bin.
Definitely not worth the scalp

It's just a rumor (hope it's not)

I would say it's worth it. As the other comment mentioned, a 5700x is also 'fine', but the upgrade wouldnt be that huge. It depends of course on the price you can get, but the 5700X3D and 5800X3D are miles ahead in many games. Since your GPU is pretty strong I would say it is worth it. Especially also if you want shooters at really high FPS.

I upgraded to 32Gb recently for some tinkering with local AI models

Ah ok. Yeah then I think with an X3D CPU your system would be good-to-go for quite a while...

you can wait to see how much AMD is going to charge for the re-release 5800x3d. i mean, if they price it to under $200, then it's a no-brainer.
Jesuisunetchoin@reddit
Yea i doubt it will be under 200$ lol, if it is it is going to be widely scalped lol

I had a 5800X3D and I decided to remove it and buy the 5700X3D because it uses less power and it never gets hot, same performance too.
The 5800X3D was using like 60W from just watching youtube. it was ridiculous. It also makes a ticking noise when the PC is in idle. Why would a CPU cause the PC to make a ticking noise? Now i just threw it in a cupboard, its sitting there.
PS. Both 5800X3D and 5700X3D are great for gaming. I was getting so much FPS that i always end up capping because my monitor is only 144hz. So having 200 fps is pointless
PigSlam@reddit
Maybe you should sell your 5800X3D to OP.

I went from a 3900x to a 5800x3d.
If you can get on cheap on r/hardwareswap go for it! It’s an extremely noticeable difference
NightingaleVDVD@reddit
get the 5700x, 5700x3d is too overpriced
norm009@reddit
Yes. You need a strong CPU to generate high frame rates. Those CPUs do not have the best price to performance ratios. Bottom line, if you are looking to squeeze the most performance from your AM4 platform then by all means go for it. Good news is that there are rumors that AMD will re-release the 5800x3d in the not too distant future although no word on price. If you want best value a 5700x, 5800x or 5800xt would be the way to go.
MichiganRedWing@reddit
If you can find either one of them for a decent price, definitely!

There's rumors about a 5800x3d relaunch, maybe wait for a little if it coms to be true or not.....

Overpriced cpus. I would go for 5700x. About 20-30% faster than 3800x.
