Completed a sidequest in Budapest today: Playing chess in thermal water at Széchenyi Baths. What are other Budapest sidequests everyone should try?

Saw people casually playing chess in steaming thermal water at Széchenyi Baths today and it genuinely felt like a sidequest straight out of a game.
Something about the old men taking the match way too seriously while everyone else is just floating around made it feel peak Budapest.
Now I’m curious what are other random Budapest sidequests everyone should try at least once?
Not just tourist attractions.
More like small oddly specific things:
• hidden spots
• strange local rituals
• niche experiences
• places with weird energy
• tiny moments that somehow stay with you
Trying to build a list of Budapest sidequests.
Would love to hear yours.

One_Marionberry_5143@reddit

Sit on the 4/6 tram and do the whole journey from the beginning to the end
faur217@reddit
That's a sidequest no one enjoys
ionno_bout_dat@reddit
You can go harder: Tram 1, or extreme mode: tram 28.
onakos@reddit
hard mode: not getting hotboxed with kristaly

hard mode: without making a disgusted face

Not exactly a side quest, but I’d encourage you to explore all 23 districts. Beyond the usual tourist hotspots, you can discover hidden gems everywhere from Budafok to Rákosmente. (You could probably skip Csepel though)
p0mpeii_@reddit
Csepel művek is peak, I like to spend some time there ocisonally

Eat a lángos at the underpass at Flórián tér.

This, it’s the best lángos I’ve had ever.

Can you please share that SideQuest app you're using in DMs?

Consume ,,bika drog" (=bull drug) with homeless people on Blaha Lujza square. An evergreen Budapest classic.

Bonus points (and extra nutrition) for teaming up with Szopófantom.

Since you’re comfortable with thermal water I’d recommend trying the free thermal bath on Margit-sziget. (It’s collected flow-over water from the baths that’s released into the Danube, but people made it an actual little bathing spot

Go to an authentic "piac" like "Bosnyák piac" on Saturday
vahokif@reddit
Did you win?
darthvadery@reddit (OP)
Hell nah. I played 3 match. I kept losing within a minute in every game and they asked me to watch and learn 😂😂. These guys are ultra pro max players.
vahokif@reddit
Yeah those guys are there for hours every day lol.
darthvadery@reddit (OP)
I guess they gave me chance cuz I was dressed like a tourist. 😂

Find houses, with these memorial plaques on the facades, where famous people have lived. There's no site where you can find all of them, but I think it's interesting, if you want to learn about history / and or want to know more about famous hungarian people.

Have a butterfly sit on you at Papillonia
darthvadery@reddit (OP)
How hard would you rate that SideQuest to happen?
_Katu@reddit
getting there is easy and butterflies are friendly. I'd say 50/50. I went there with family, everyone had it happen except me lol
DataNerdling@reddit
is one of your sidequests to also catch an infectious disease in a public bath?

search all of the Kolodko mini statues
darthvadery@reddit (OP)
I did this last time. It was really fun.
CodeX57@reddit
apparently this is really well known at this point. Was asked about them by a pair of Irish tourists and they said its in all the tourist handbooks now
