If you want one to shoot at old appliances in a gravel pit, it's a great purchase. But, I wouldn't use it for defense.

It's admittedly not popular, but bird's head grips can totally work for CQB. And you can leave the barrel long keeping it a non-NFA firearm.

This grip sucks, the entire force goes to your hand, plus there is no sight.

Nowadays a shockwave with a laser and light is a better choice. The birdshead grip is easier on the hand plus it is much easier to SBR with folding stocks being cheaper and more availabe.

I have a shockwave. Bought it a few years ago. I hate it. The recoil is too much and I’m not a little guy. I’m very familiar with different firearms. Nowadays it just sits in my safe. I’m not a fan at all.

I have a pistol grip pump similar to this. Changed the pistol grip to a full stock after shooting it for the first time. Cant really aim it well and all the recoil goes into your hand. Id say get a folding stock at a minimum

Bear bangs, less lethal, trap line gun, or mini shells all give pistol grip shotguns some use but it’s really debatable. Trap line or breaching gun would be most useful and definitely advantages over full length guns, but still extreme use cases.

The birdshead grip is better than the pistol grip. No one is shooting a full box of slugs through these at one outing. I’ve never had an issue with my wrist or palms and only maybe aggravating my tennis elbow once while shooting a pgo shot gun. I use 00 or 000 but mostly 4 buck or buck and ball.

Love mine. Got it at a gunshow for $725 a few years ago! Just be aware they go for a lot of money especially if tou want an ithaca without the engraving on the sides of the receiver. Ive seen mine go for $1500 on gunbroker and one similar to yours on there for $3,000 so take with that what you want.

Overall very sexy shotgun but man when I shoot while aiming with the beadsite with normal loads the gun goes right into my face so you gotta hold onto it.
