What song would you choose to represent each decade of your life so far?

Doesn't necessarily need to be a song released within that decade.
I was born in 1990.
I'll go...
1990 - 1999 was 'Girls & Boys' by Blur.
I grew up in a block of flats in a council estate and hearing that song always takes me back to being a kid, running around in the summer while all the mums sat out in the "backies" with radio's playing.
2000 - 2009 was 'I Wanna Be Adored' by The Stone Roses.
This decade is what defined my music taste for the rest of my life. Introduced to The Stone Roses by my step dad, they instantly took hold. Spent my teens with long hair, Adidas sambas and attending gigs. *Honourable mention to 'What Became of the Likely Lads' by The Libertines.
2010 - 2019 was 'Time' by Pink Floyd.
I remember working nightshift in my early 20's and a respected old guy in work suggested I try Dark Side of the Moon while I worked away.
My god, that album blew me away. Put me on a very chilled vibe for a few years and opened me up to so much more music I'd never thought of.
2020 - Current Day...
I don't really have one yet.
I don't listen to *anything* new.

Born in '89:
1990s: School's Out by Alice Cooper (I somehow got my hands on one of his albums when I was about 7 and it's all I would listen to for ages)
2000s: In Too Deep by Sum 41
2010s were a blur of Drum n Bass, Techno/Electro, Hip-Hop and lots of drugs, I couldn't pinpoint to a particular song, so let's go with the song that started my journey into Electronica (and drugs): Slam by Pendulum
2020s: I've completely lost the pulse when it comes to new music, the only new artist I've really taken to is Pete & Bas, so let's go with T-Pain by Pete & Bas

There's a whole world of UK rap and hip hop you might like to delve into, check out nine and Dex and anyone on high focus records. If you like.

I got really into High Focus and artists like Dabbla and Ocean Wisdom around that time

1990 - when the going gets tough the tough get going - boyzone. I'd realised I was different from other kids by the time I turned 10 and think I knew i was gay, and this song provided a bit of solace...
2000 - into deep - sum 41, helped define my music tastes and my personality. I remember having enough money to buy one album and it was a choice between all killer no filler and whatever album "hot in ere" by Nelly was on.
2010 - new York new York - tellison. I was very much into my alt indie underground gigs by this point and tellison are one of the only bands I still remember the name of, and go and see live when they play!
2020 - beer never broke my heart - Luke combs. My tastes and personality have pivoted hard in recent years. I've always liked a wide variety of stuff but I got really into country during the pandemic and it's stayed with me, I've learnt not to take myself so seriously or worry about whether bands are cooooooool and authentic. If I like it, I like it and that's enough for me.

I was on acid back in 2011 going for a walk, and the guitar solo for Time hit me like a ton of bricks

1990s: The Thomas the Tank Engine theme- what else would I be listening to at that age?
2000s: Life in Technicolour II- Coldplay- I was obsessed with this song when I was 14 so it makes it in.
2010s: Dogs are Everywhere- Pulp- A very bizarre early track by Pulp that I got into in the 2010s.
2020s: Peacefield- Ghost- An all round great song that I've been obsessed with for over a year.

1970s - parents didn’t listen to much music at home, and the only thing I remember is the Peter Rabbit vinyl album with the story and songs. So probably a song from the Peter Rabbit album. I’ll go with “Where Have the Flopsy Bunnies Gone?”
1980s - Aztec Camera - “Walk Out To Winter”. I was really obsessed with this band from the late 80s onwards.
1990s - The Dream Syndicate - “The Days of Wine & Roses”. I discovered DS in 1991 and this track became a favourite. I saw Steve Wynn’s post-DS band called Gutterball in 1993 and they played this song as an encore.
2000s - Deerhunter - “Nothing Ever Happened”. My favourite 21st century band. I’ve seen them 40+ times.
2010s - Black Moth Super Rainbow - “Like a Sundae”. I finally got to see BMSR supporting NIN in 2018 and it was so good.
2020s - Roy Montgomery - “Cowboy Mouth (For Sam Shephard). This soundtracked a lot of the pandemic. I listened to this on repeat on buses wearing a face mask.

Nice one.
A few bands there I've never heard of and it gives me a list to try.
Yeah, my Dad isn't into music either (doesn't even have the radio on in the car), but luckily my step dad is and there wouldn't be a minute of the day where music wasn't playing throughout their house.
