I'm thinking of making the jump to AM5

Hey guys! This year I finally upgraded my GPU and monitor. I now have an RTX 5070 and I play at 2K resolution practically without any problems, but it's not as smooth as I'd like. I feel like my old 5600X It's slowing down the whole thing, plus I like having my two browsers with 15 tabs open each and occasionally doing some stream.
That's why I was thinking of getting a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I feel like it's the CPU I need to stop seeing the horrible stuttering, as well as gaining stability when I'm doing multitasking or stream.
But I've seen all sorts of comments, like it will bottleneck the GPU (wasn't that a good thing? That the GPU will be running at full capacity?) I've been told that CPU is overkill, I should go for a 7800x3d, but what if I want to upgrade my GPU in two years? Will that processor still be relevant?
Also, if you could recommend a motherboard, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking for something with plenty of storage capacity, as I'm a hoarder! And of course, that it has all possible energy defenses.

X3D is not a magic bullet and is less effective the higher in resolution you game at. That being said all my experiences with the 9800X3D are should and AM5 is getting at least one more generation of CPUs.
It's not the worst time in the world to buy a CPU and motherboard. RAM is the issue but if you can grab a solid combo and move up to 32GB or whatever later, that could be a solid strategy for you.

From where you are sitting, there are 2 options, maybe 3 but you want this fixed now really.
This is a now upgrade and I would go for the 9800X3D/9850X3D if the price between both is not huge. Also if you can find a cracking deal on a 7800X3D I would consider that. For a board I use the the MSI X670E Gaming Plus Wifi and it is perfect. VRMs stay cool, it has 4 M.2 slots and 4xSATA 6G, so you have plenty of storage options. It is also a decent price for an X670E board.
Wait for the re-release of the 5800X3D 10th Anniversary. This one is a bit of a gamble as it is still a rumour and potentially only an Asian release. But it could still make it into EU and America, who knows. But we suspect some information by the end of Q2. So you could hold off till then.
This one is just basically wait. Wait for the 10000/11000 Series AMD CPUs with improved X3D CPUs and hopefully the DDR5 ram pricing has gone down a bit by then.
If I was in your shoes and wasn't too bothered about current RAM pricing, I would go option one. It should fix the issues you are experiencing. I currently use a 9800X3D with a 5080 and I have no stuttering, the 1% lows are stable and I can game without worries.

Make the jump if u think it'll solve your issue.
I know from personal experience with my 5800x3d +5070 setup that even in 1440p using DLSS Quality upscaling, I've seen multiple instances of CPU bottlenecks. It's even more significant at 1080p. Nothing major, or I would consider "unplayable" but definitely happens.

Ah, that disappointment has accompanied me with every upgrade. When I went from an RX 570 to the 3070, and then to the 5070, it's as if the PC is telling me, no matter what you do, you won't get rid of the stuttering.

I think u mentioned Warhammer and that's a pretty CPU heavy game if I recall correctly.
When people say "CPU bottlencks don't matter" I strongly disagree, because it's a case by case situation. Some games just require a faster CPU, some don't. Some people want o push high fps with upscaling or lower settings, some are content with frame caping to 60fps.

I think it is not the best time to upgrade a PC. Wait until a year or more and there will be more options. Especially when DD6 memory gets commercially introduced.

The 9800X3D is a huge waste of money for you as you can see here: https://youtu.be/TXKyQYiLro8
Baldurs Gate 3 is really the only game in this test that really takes advantage of it. And even then a 7800X3D wouldn't be that much worse.
Honestly, with a 5070 at 1440p, there is no real need to upgrade. But if you were to upgrade, I'd go for a 250K Plus, because that has by far the best value per dollar.

The problem with that review is they tested everything at ultra settings. Most gamers will have an fps target in mind and drop settings until they achieve that fps. If the cpu can’t deliver the desired fps then it doesn’t matter what you do with game settings you won’t achieve your desired settings.
I upgraded from a 5800X3D to 9800X3D for 1440p 240-280Hz. Picking settings to get higher FPS to take advantage of high Hz monitor was a very noticeable improvement especially in games like BF6 and COD. It will depend on what type of game and what fps you are aiming for, but you can’t just assume no one will benefit at 1440p.

The problem is, There are games that are currently giving me problems, like Warhammer Space Marines 2. Every time a horde of creatures appears outdoors, the FPS drops from 70 to 35. It's in situations like this where The seams are visible on the 5600x.

The question is whether that's your CPU or just the game and your GPU

When mentioning 2K just know that in Cinema 2K is 2048x1080, closest is 1920x1080.
2560x1440 is often shortened to QHD or 2.5/2.6K. This is because 2K means 2000, which is thz number used for the closest amount of horizontal pixels. And 2560 is closer to 3K than 2K.

My bad, It is the habit

I know, for me personally it's very confusing as I have to constantly switch between Cinematography and uh Internet logic😅
