First Car Choice in Europe?

Currently residing in Slovenia I've been on the lookout for a "cheap-ish but premium" vehicle for myself.
My budget ranges up to 8,000€\\~ depending on upkeep of vehicle.
I'm mainly looking for a hatchbacky, bit on the shorter side vehicle as I'll be living alone & would need it to be a city car for work. Mainly avoiding cars like Clios (older ones).
\- I've been told Mazda's are expensive upkeeps & 90% are rusty (Mazda 3 seemed reasonably priced)
\- Some Opels are around such as Corsa, Astra etc., haven't found any info on their performance, they seem bare bones type of cars and the better ones seem to go above 10k€
\- I've found the Seat Leon 1.4 FR (2018) to be the best car to my liking, there's a 192k(km) one selling for 9999€ but that's a bit above my budget especially with registration etc.
\- Peugots seem to all have the same wet belt issue and some 2021 versions are prices at 7,000\\~ due to the many issues I've read about these cars.
\- Golfs seem to be overpriced in Slovenia currently even the most base ones cost 11,000€ and imported with unknown history (reversed mileage), yet seem the best all arounder for a beginner
Any tips, recommendations are appriceated!

Maybe a French car, they tend to be comfy and more luxurious than their same prices alternatives. But look for a good one, concerning the puretech engines. Not all engines are reliable.
