I am yet to start building a gaming pc and i found a deal local to me of an rtx 3080 for £270 or $367. It'll take me around a year to get the money for all the parts.

Don't buy it. It's old, out of warranty, and you can't use it until you've got the rest of your PC together.

That 3080 might be on it's last leg...

depends. what are the new alternatives for you? 9060 xt 8GB?

even atx 2.0 psus are designed to handle 30 series transient spikes

I ran a 3080 on a 650 W gold EVGA PSU for 5 years and it was completely fine.

My worry is the 9060xt only has 8gb of vram. I know 10gb is not a big difference but it's something

I do like the 3080 still, seeming as i have my old one still in another rig. It's still suprisingly capable. It's just a shame these cards really haven't gotten that much cheaper over the years. If you can be sure the card runs well, not a bad option given the card status.
Bought mine lightly used...January 2023 or abouts for about $400? 3 or more years later and it's more or less that price...

That's a fairly decent deal, 367$ - you sure it's legit? The 3080 was a good card, I've got one in the 2nd slot of my pc for machine learning stuff.
Waiting a year to use the card seems silly, though.

Yeah, they stress tested it for about 20-30 mins and proved that it was for gaming and gaming only
LeatherGood6148@reddit
My rule was always "get the card that plays the game you're looking forward to the best at your price range.
You never know, if new games come out in a year, the 3080 might not cut it.
Critical_Hit777@reddit
That's a good price (about £300 is the average at the moment) but if you cannot use it now, there's that to factor in.
If you'll build within 3 months, probably grab it. If it'll realistically be longer, leave it. It won't go up in price from here.

😆🤣😂 nah, don't get anything now. Just safe up - there might even be completely new GPUs and prices for old ones. 3080 ain't that good anymore and draws 320W...
