Illiteracy, stupidity, corruption, mafia.
tar_lix@reddit
Ill always say that the whole of balkans is pretty much the same, just different flags and different religions, expect for Slovenia and croatian istria - thats not biased, im from bosnia, so ive got nothing to gain from saying that.
Beautiful-Dish-6275@reddit
Nah bro, you cant tell me vojvodina isnt more similar to Slovenia/Istria than it is to southern greece or Moldavia.
tar_lix@reddit
I didn't tell you that, it is more similar to Slovenia and northern Croatia, jbg povijest. My thoughts are in aggregate.
amazingamy19@reddit
I didn’t have that experience at all. If anything, i think similarities are exaggerated.
tar_lix@reddit
I've been lucky in a way that I traveled quite a bit, and our differences are really not that big, generally worldwide, but especially in our region.
But yes, the amplitude is wider between Zagreb and the Greek islands, but any neighboring countries are quite similar.
amazingamy19@reddit
From my admittedly brief visits to ex YU countries, i honestly failed to see THAT much similarities, on a level they are talked about here.
I would assume Albania is even less similar.
oioioioioioiioo@reddit
They do have many things in common but sadly the hatred overshadowed the relations. I have many relatives of Albanian ethnicity.

The red in the flag, the eagle in the flag, both used to have a monarchy but don't anymore, both used to be communist but aren't anymore.
Nothing_Special_23@reddit
Truth be told, Albania has never been a functioning monarchy.🤷
BardhyliX@reddit
Respect Zogolli?
Nothing_Special_23@reddit
Nope. During his reign Albania was a dysfunctional state ruled by warring tribes. The power he had was exclusively in an ability to somewhat balance the tribal politics.
Zaba_iz_Zabalja@reddit
Deep political fueld hatred for one another, I mean it's so stupid for me as a Serbian to hate a dude because he is from Albania isn't it or vice versa. If you put that to rest, the countries and people are both very similiar, same food, they both like german cars and criminal, they both have beautiful women, they both like to drink, they both jerk off to war propaganda, etc.
Gjinkallet@reddit
Why would you hate an albanian? Have we done any genociding to you?
Zaba_iz_Zabalja@reddit
My grandfather (civilian) was killed by an albanian robber, he cut of his ear and pulled one of his eyes out and took all his money, enough reason for somebody to hate if you look at it that way, but read my post again my friend, I said it's stupid to hate 🥳

Hate and corruption and tribal mentality
Nothing_Special_23@reddit
Tribal mentality? Serbs? What are you even talking about?
Serbs don't have tribal mentality. A Serbian tribe wouldn't last a week without everyone fighting everyone.
Individual_Page3212@reddit
That's why the same tribe is in power since like the late 1980s I guess.
Nothing_Special_23@reddit
That's not what a tribe means. Especially not in Albanian sense.
Barbak86@reddit
Sure you do. You might just call it something else.

Barbak86@reddit
Everything except for the language.
Sure there are differences, but overall it's the same shit. The differences are on the level of: "they use the Harmonica more, we love the Clarinet instead."
One major difference I note is the way we look at each other. They underestimate us a lot, and we overestimate them by a lot.
baddzie@reddit
poverty, food is quite similar, I think personality is also similar
sloopywettoppyswife@reddit
both are a dictatorship
fat_strelok@reddit
And before that, Tito and Hoxha led the people with an iron grip that our main body of voters sorely misses and wants to recreate.
A lifetime of servile attitude is not easily erased.
Tragic for anyone who isn't into braindead nationalism and rampant corruption.
jankeyass@reddit
People want to recreate Tito era for the economic prosperity and development that Yugoslavia had, not in the slightest for the communism
LegioXI89@reddit
You compare Tito and living in Yugoslavia with Hoxha and Albania lol
fat_strelok@reddit
The concept is the same, follow big leader or gulag. That turns into "it's us or them".
Hoxha was a lot more scary and isolationist as far as I know.
usernameisokay_@reddit
And worse for his people compared to what Tito managed to achieve.
LegioXI89@reddit
No it wasn't, Yugoslavian communism and albanian were two different worlds
sloopywettoppyswife@reddit
We were this close too 🤏
We celebrated when we got rid of Millo after 30 years and we will celebrate in 2028 when we enter the EU and Schengen
LegioXI89@reddit
No we are not similar with albanians, especially personality
baddzie@reddit
We are more similar to them than to Russians for example, except for tge language
LegioXI89@reddit
We are definitely not, speak for yourself

Legal_Apartment5789@reddit
Hot take: Basically everything the only diffrence the language and religion i mean serbs dick suck russian so much and we albanians are the same just with the US
Miloslolz@reddit
I don’t think we suck up to Russia that much. I mean all we didn’t do is sanction them but beyond that we have both supported and sold weapons to Ukraine.
Not to mention if anyone Serbia sucks up it’s China by a large margin. They have free reign to do what ever they want here.
Legal_Apartment5789@reddit
True that you mentioning now you guys are good with china we used to be good with china under hoxha now your good with them but either way as an albanian i think serb and albanian have more in common then they would admit
Miloslolz@reddit
Honestly Albanians are way more united and really hardworking compared to Serbs and that’s coming from my Kosovo Serb refugee colleague.
Sure Serbs are better at other things but as a country I think Albania is set up better, way less divided.
burmadurma@reddit
Trust me man, grass is greener on the other side. I have not been to Serbia, but other slavic countries in the balkans, and we are very similar. Righteous, tribal, arrogant idiots.
This_Lion5856@reddit
China is Russia's big daddy nowadays tbf. Even Orban who was staunchly pro-Russian mainly dealt with Chinese loands and deals
MediumPositive8953@reddit
but albanian sucking payed off big time while the serbian one, not so much
Barbak86@reddit
We did it expecting something in return, they did it for the love of the game.
amazingamy19@reddit
I mean language and religion are two of the most important identifying factors for one nation.
You are also not Slavic, and are a costal country.
Can’t talk much about mentality, but I have a feeling you are also more conservative.
A lot of Serbian cultural identity comes from Byzantine culture, or even Slavic customs.
waudi@reddit
Same brother, I had the same exact thought first time I was in Albania, everyone was really nice and genuine towards us, just like we were to them when they visited us prior to that. Everything felt familiar.
And one thing I really noticed was the disdain towards us politicians. Fuck them. Oh and we hated the beans burek, but we did our best to pretend we didn't because you don't hate another man's burek. 😅 Driving was crazy tho 😂

Turns out we really don't, some extremist minorities maybe, but overall we have so much in common that when politics are put aside we get along really great, just like the rest of the balkans... Who knew that politics turn everything to shit. (and religion)
