Graphics upgrade… is it worth it

Ok, it’s been a while since I last built a PC, so not super in touch with today’s world beyond some basic googling that suggests it might be worth the upgrade (we pay a lot for parts in this part of the work (NZ)).
Current PC
i7 14700, 32Gb Ram, with a Gigabyte RTX2060ti 12Gb), sitting on a Gigabyte B660M DS3H motherboard, all powered from a EVGA 700 Gold series PSU
Yeah I know, it’s getting old, but a full rebuild is out of the question, what I’d like to know, is would it be worth upgrading the Graphics to a RTX5060ti, I’m not sure I can stretch to a 5070ti which is around the 2k mark here
From reading online, that even though I can only run PCIE4.0, it seems as though it will run the 5060(+) fine, just a bit slower as it uses less PCIE lanes (?)
What I don’t know is, will it be worth the performance jump?

Please double check your CPU and GPU model.
Gigabyte B660M DS3H supports only 12-14th gen, not 4th...
And the GPU is likely to be RTX 2060 Super...

Is a 14th gen CPU, specifically a Intel Core i7-14700F CPU GFX is - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 12GB (I thought it was a ti, but maybe not it would seem.
Mobo is definitely B660M DS3H AX DDR4 (I’ll double check my original post)

I'll second the u/Own-Indication5620 recommendation to stretch for RTX 5070, Much better choice!

RTX 5070 is what u want. It's a lot stronger than 5060 TI 16GB and depending where u live it can pretty close in terms of price. 5070 TI is generally been overpriced for a long time, but sometimes u can get a deal.

Did you check prices on 9070 or 9070xt?

I’m not overly up to the play with AMD, how do those models compare with the 5060ti or 5070?
SterlingArcher824@reddit
9070 is a tad bit better than the 5070 and 9070xt is slightly under the 5070ti

Thanks that’s good to know, they are a bit cheaper than the NVIDIA gear

Gaming performance will improve across the board with a better GPU. But at higher resolutions, you could benefit from something more powerful than a 5060ti. Even a card like that will run most games decently at 4k though.
Might also want to check the used market at the very least. While it is unlikely, you could find a RTX 4070 or AMD RX 7800XT / 7900XT cheap.

It depends on the resolution you're playing at.
For 1080p gaming the 5060ti is more than enough. Not only are you upgrading 3 generations, the newer cards also have capabilities the older ones don't (think dlss 4.5).
For 1440p the 5060ti will struggle a bit, but you should still be okay by turning down the settings and render scale a bit, in game. If you like to play singleplayer games like cyberpunk and stuff on 1440p, you'd need the 5070ti.
Indeed, the difference between a PCIE 4.0 and 5.0 is measured in a couple percentage points.
