Spot anything you'd change?
Kia ora,
I'm going to pull the trigger on my First PC Build when the EOFY sales come up in 4-5 weeks. My budgets is around $5,000 NZD. It'll be all black.
I plan to keep this build for \~5 or more years, only upgrading the storage and adding another 32gb ram stick in the future. I have peripherals and storage (1tb Samsung 980 Pro, 500Gb Crucial 2.5" SSD) from my old setup aswell. Though I also plan to go 1440p mid 2027.
I figure this should be enough for games like Arma Reforger, KCD1/2, E33, Ready or Not, Squad and other AA/AAA titles on High+ settings. It'll also be used for Music Production with Ableton, video editing, photoshop and some work from home stuff.
Thanks! :))

The NV3 often uses QLC flash, which has low durability and becomes noticeably slower after a few years. Get a better drive with TLC flash like the TeamGroup G50 or WD Blue SN5000.

Thanks, I've switched to the Crucial P510 2tb after re-considering some parts.
Got some extra money for any upgrades if you have an opinion on the new list above.
Cer_Visia@reddit
There might be opportunities to reduce costs (B850 motherboard, air cooling), but the only reasonable upgrade would be an RTX 5080, which is probably more extra money than you have. Just save the money.

Actually, on that note. Am I crazy for thinking I could still probably use my 3070 with the new setup for a short while? I could use the extra 1.2k on the other components and buy a 50 series in a month or two.
Cer_Visia@reddit
The 3070 will not run any slower just because it's in a new system.
AcousticV1be@reddit (OP)
Perfect, I don't know why I thought it would. Solidified my plan.

Get a 2x16GB ram kit. It's not as big a deal on DDR5 but it's still generally bad to have just one, they perform better in pairs.
Any reason you went Intel for CPU over AMD?
AcousticV1be@reddit (OP)
Would it be worth getting a 2x16 if I plan on upgrading to 64GB start of next year? I figured I could just stick another 32Gb ram stick in.
I figured the 270k plus could hang well in those games, on top of doing the non-gaming stuff I do at the $631 NZD price. I also don't plan on upgrading for another 4-6 years, and I assume I'll need to buy a new mobo and CPU anyways.

Here's a quick build I put together under your budget with a 9800X3D, 2x16GB 6000MHz CL30 RAM, and a slightly cheaper case and cooler. The 7800/9800X3D are about $150 more expensive than the Intel, but the motherboards are cheaper. I'm still not sure how I feel about that SSD, but I'd trust this CPU to last longer for sure. I'm not from NZ so I apologize if there are local issues as I put this together pretty quick on my phone.

Really appreciate you putting this up. I
was thinking of maybe switching to the 9070xt since there's a deal where I can get it $600 (NZD) cheaper than the 5070ti. Would help bridge the gap to the 9000 series x3ds and let me look for a nicer ssd.
Reijinlol@reddit
Mixing RAM can always be funny, even if its the same one. Dual Kits run more stable and thats what you want with ddr5.
AcousticV1be@reddit (OP)
Ahh okay. I did see a slightly cheaper 2x16 set at the same speed but CL30. I'll keep that in mind. Then I guess 32Gb would be enough for my needs.
Reijinlol@reddit
There are also 48gb kits, maybe look into them?
Pricing is a bit weird and is different by country. In some its near 32gb and in some near 64gb.
AcousticV1be@reddit (OP)
I'll check those out. We don't usually get the best prices here in NZ haha.
Reijinlol@reddit
Also you dont need 64gb RAM if you dont do rendering stuff professional/frequently.
unimportantinfodump@reddit
Haha reading this is funny. Being in nz the 270 is like 3-400 cheaper
unimportantinfodump@reddit
Hey bro I've been keeping an eye on nz PC deals.
You can get ran cheaper on Amazon au. 32gb for 630.
You can save money again on a 9070xt which is a beast. The performance increase on the 5070ti is negligible but the price difference is 400.
And if you make the savings there you can shift to a 9800x3d which is superior to the 270k
AcousticV1be@reddit (OP)
Yo, do you have a link for the ram you're talking about?
The 9070xt seems like really a good shout.
Any idea on how well the 9800x3d does non-gaming wise to the 270k?

unimportantinfodump@reddit
It's only 5600 but that doesn't matter much if you get a x3d
AcousticV1be@reddit (OP)
Shot bro, gonna look into this possibly
Additional_Past_7107@reddit
Seems decent, Personally I would spring for a better nvme but the nv3 is a fine choice in these times. I would consider keeping your 980x as os drive on reflection.
AcousticV1be@reddit (OP)
Yeah, terrible for builders this year. Though I'm too impatient to wait 1-2 years for these ssd and ram prices to drop. I'll keep os on the Samsung then. Do you have a recommendation for a better Nvme at a close price point?
