My daily routine

I got this mug nearly 30 years ago during my first training sessions. Back then, I had to administer a Netra i150 and an Enterprise 450

😢 I dropped and broke my Sun mug (same cobalt blue but mine was larger, the perfect size for my coffee) about a year ago. It was my mug that I used from my days working at Sun in the late 90s and early 2000s and had our local field office info and phone number.

The Sun field engineers were something else back then. I swore ours never slept and never complained. Dude worked his ass off at the drop of a hat for us. I'm sure he covered other customers too, but it never felt like it

To this day it’s the best job I’ve ever had, I loved my time at Sun and the people I worked with. I was an FE in Denver and Idaho, but I also ended up in CA a few times for coverage.

Oh no. As you can see the white color slowly fades away. And i do not wash it by hand. But if i can't read it any more it is time to let it go....

I bet that mug has some stories

A cup of sun indeed. It eclipsed too early for me to have a peek into (although born in the 80s, I did not get into IT until mid 2010s), but I have listened to many podcasts of Bryan Cantrill. Looks like Sun was really a good place for engineers even towards the end. I wish I could work there. I have worked in 6 places and none of them has any engineering culture, just marketeers and PMs all the way.

I've noticed that too, it is more and more marketing and less product/technical related. In other words, everything works fine if there is a problem that is normal but everything works fine.... go on, be a happy customer....

I miss Sun back from the days before Oracle ruined them. The e450 was the first Sun machine I had root on as well!

Yes, i think that was in the 00 years, after .com. bubble. I heared about the merger/takeover but was no admin at that time any more.

I started my first admin job in 2000 and have been in the field ever since. You experienced the glory days of Sun. They got just as bad as everyone else under Oracle.

Is it safe to drink from them?

Haha, yes. Rock solid quality.

Just like their hardware from that era

That is true
