Getting my 1st ebike

Hey all. So I was just approved for a voucher for Portland, Oregon's ebike rebate program. They emailed me saying I was accepted and to wait 10 days for it. Even though I don't have the bike yet, is there some safety and maintenance classes I can take? I just joined me local REI Co-op and I read some stuff about classes and even the Portland Police Department offers some safety classes and stuff. Or is it too early?

Cheers for being interested in safety and such. Wish more people were like that.
How familiar are you with bicycles in general? It's not uncommon for ebikes to be the first bikes that people get (or have gotten since they were children). In such cases, the biggest tip I would give is to get comfortable riding a bicycle before you even activate any of the electric assist functions. Once you have that understanding then riding an ebike is an easier learning curve.

Thanks! I'm a little familiar with bicycles for sure but I want to learn a lot more about maintenance so I don't get in a sticky situation. Also to learn about ebike rules and stuff since I'm living in Portland, Or. We basically want to be Amsterdam so I don't want to raise legal trouble

Do I need a driver's license?

Well in Oregon, not for an ebike that I'm aware of. I'm wanting to take some bike classes offered by the local police department and hopefully maintenance classes for a reason
