Replying to self but:
Most of these cars are in the 30-40k USD range. The mythical 20k USD EV just isn't what new car buyers actually want, which lines up well with US EV trends.
Cheap BYDs sell, the other sub 20k USD hatchbacks don't (the cheapest MG4 is dead). There's like 5 other hatches in that price range and they sell like 2 cars a month. GAC has a 60kWh battery at 32k AUD and they haven't been able to sell 600 cars in 2 months lmao
Nobody wants the MG4 Urban and they all want the 5 year old regular 4 instead, which is hilarious.
Quality is fairly irrelevant to sales. It's pretty difficult to argue the BZ4X, EV5, Atto 1 or Dolphin are good cars at their prices, but they come from Known Brands so they sell.
it's Australia so most of these sales are novated leases anyway.

It literally launched at the start of April?
I don't even think your linked source has the MG4 Urban as a seperate car from the regular MG4 because there's only one MG4 in their list.

Edited accordingly: yeah they're missing a few cars. Both the GACs aren't there, for example (though we can extrapolate the UT isn't selling because they're still offering the free chargers they had for the preorders). The fact the MG4 is still selling decently despite being 5 years old and having all the cheap trims deleted is still interesting though

I just wonder Toyota would keep winner in there or not, but I can now see other Japanese automakers facing problem.
Specially, it isn’t great for Mitsubishi Motors, as OZ and SEA are their important markets.

Toyota has a great reputation in Aus and are sales-kings. I think they'll be OK because they rely on some of their customers going "outback" needing "Toyota reliability" and have a decent EV in the b4rz + bulk sales of Rav4s, hybrid Corollas and Camrys. I fear for Mitsubishi especially and to a lesser extent Honda. It's hard to believe approx. 20 years ago Honda was up there with Toyota in terms of reputable and sales in Aus, they're a shadow compared of the giants they yse to be.

Honda is just fucked. Mazda at least has the 6e and CX-6e, Subaru can copy off Mazda and Suzuki is budget.
I have no idea what Mitsubishi is doing, I assume rebadging Nissan's? The e-Power system is pretty cool but in a world where Haval and MG exist, being the super cheap hybrid guys is a risky venture to put it mildly.
They'll sell RAV4 and Hiluxes until the heat death of the universe, they might just be battery powered in a decade or so.
