Any other drivers who never wear a headset?

I swear I see dudes sleeping with theirs on. They go nowhere without it. I don't even own one. There's nobody I want to talk to at all. š¤·š»āāļø
MostOriginalNameEver@reddit
You answered your own question. You have nobody to talk to. Also when I'm in stalls I like to not blast what I'm listening to
captain-ron-1976@reddit
Looks stupid as F
roadie1569@reddit
I just use the Bluetooth through my truck, I talk to my wife when sheās not working and rarely another coworker. I like to listen to my podcasts, or my music up loud.
jabber1990@reddit
who the hell uses speakerphone while driving?
United_News3779@reddit
I do, when it's an unprompted call from dispatch lol.
Exact-Leadership-521@reddit
I'd be embarrassed to drive such a quiet truck. Don't call me, send a text and I'll see it in 4-12 hours

I have a little group of other drivers and weāre on the phone a lot. Some days itās all day. Some days itās on and off and other āoutsidersā join in (family members, friends, x drivers etc). Some days we donāt call at all. I donāt wear it outside the truck - I find it embarrassing. Some days it causes me headaches so I canāt wear it at all. But I love having our little group. Makes long days more tolerable.
MountainHarmonies@reddit
That's pretty cool to have an on-road community.
possibly_lost45@reddit
If you see guys sleeping with them on you got bigger issues than having no one to talk to
mindsunwound@reddit
I find that using earbuds causes ear wax and dead skin to build up faster. This leads to my ears itching, and needing more frequent and more thorough cleaning.
With that said I mostly use my headset as a replacement for headphones, it is an easy way to have a full can over just one ear.
rilloroc@reddit
I got one. I very seldom use it. I don't like talking on phones at the best of times. I drive a pete that is loud af at all times, and everyone knows not to call me when I'm working unless it's an emergency.Ā
bentstrider83@reddit
I don't have many friends and generally get irritated when people call. Sadly having a phone is an unspoken requirement of the industry. š
crudeshag@reddit
I just use the Bluetooth speaker on the radio. It seems noone uses that ? Lol I'm always blasting music on it also and I can't stand listening to music with earbuds while driving
ElectronicGarden5536@reddit
Did it for 10 years and always connected to the radios bluetooth for music, or used earbuds for personal calls. Theres no scenario in which your dispatch NEEDS to get ahold of you while driving.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
I connected my phone to the radio so I can have my music and answer the phone legally because the boss ALWAYS calls me when Iām driving
ApollyonFE@reddit
I haven't used one in a long time. You'd think for what they cost they would have better sound quality, airpods are way better
King_of_Being_Basic@reddit
I dont even own one š¬ i wanted to at first, but the Bluetooth on my truck is good enough to call my human when I do, otherwise I just listen to music or books or podcasts.
It's kinda weird when someone wears their headset to the bathroom or just.... everywhere in general lol
Miserable-Bridge-729@reddit
Yep. Been driving for years and never have used one. Not even an ear bud. I work local but I watch guys come in, in the morning talking with it on and leave in the evening talking with it on. There is nobody, even spouse and kids, that I would want to be plugged into for every moment of my day.
Beneficialsensai@reddit
If you have an inward facing camera you cant.
COATHANGER_ABORTIONS@reddit
False lmao
Had an inward camera for years and I'd say 75 percent of that time I've got a headset on
Beneficialsensai@reddit
Some companies allow it some dont allow talking on the phone at all hands free or not.
duckbobtarry@reddit
I mean there are so many much lighter and more subtle options than one of those clunky things. I used to use the ones that lightly hang on your neck, corded ear plugs. Don't trust myself with the pods lol
irresponsiblen1@reddit
I just use AirPods I donāt make trucking my personality š
KingNebyula@reddit
Headsets look so gay when ear buds are a thing
Fishdude909@reddit
This is the wayā¦
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
I've got a Wife and kid, a few good buddies and a few family members I'd want to talk to, but I'm too damn cheap to buy one and I spend all my Love's points on snacks and emergency food lol
Sparks_PC_Building@reddit
My trucks radio doesnt function like it should. I dont wanna deal with replacing it. I talk with my wife everyday while she cleans and works. She has a headset, I have a headset. I have never once heard the vacuum while she is cleaning. She has never once heard another truck blowing their horn at the truck stops. Plus, it helps to have a headset compatible with siri that you can use to send texts to my companies brokers/planners. It may seem dumb to some, but to me I can have siri open apps, play music, open audio books, open a podcast, and even text back people all without having to even LOOK at my phone.
spambait-aspaaaragus@reddit
You guys have that much to talk about?
Wide-Engineering-396@reddit
And they wear their hi- vis rookie vest too
itsaheem@reddit
never. leave a message i'll call you back at my next stop
ras_736@reddit
AirPods. š
Level-Leg-1579@reddit
Those drivers that wear headsets 24/7 are total chuds.
BriskManeuver@reddit
I swear people make not using headsets their personality
jfrostislost@reddit
Right. The comments are crazy.
Ancient_Alien_@reddit
I donāt have one.
mattattack3212@reddit
My truck is loud and I usually spend the day on the phone talking to my future wife. They definitely arenāt that comfortable, at least not my Blue-Parrot set.
ohhrangejuice@reddit
So you're telling me you dont leave your Blueparrot on 24/7?
I see dudes driving their personal cars walking through a home depot, costco with it on looking like a drive thru employee.
I could never get on board. Simple ear buds is enough for a call
L0quence@reddit
I just rock my air pod and bullshit with my work buddies as we work. Hauling & pouring fuel, local gig. If I was on the road all the time I probably wouldnāt known to call other than my sister occasionally, who also does long haul but..
Personal-Damage-7051@reddit
Just run with my CB. Honestly. I think a lot more people need them. Idk what's up with Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Illinois these past few weeks. But it's car after car on the right shoulder. Changing tires. And many times dudes are jacking their cars up, and they're standing on the white line/just in the middle right lane. These are the important call outs. So I'm not trying to get body parts off my truck, or worse. Send my load out into traffic from braking and become the next final destination sequel.
Also VERY valuable for storms/ low visibility. Calling out to traffic speed or if stopped traffic to incoming traffic behind yourself.
Ayasdad@reddit
Been driving for 10 years, not once have I needed a CB. I have a cell phone and eyes. Every time I even use one it's just a bunch of assholes starting shit with each other. I realize they were important back in the day but they're really about to be obsolete.
WHODUNNITT303@reddit
80e was backed up today for abouta hr, bunch of people dicking around on the radio, made it a little more enjoyable
Bamfurlough@reddit
I only wear mine when I'm actively talking which isn't very often.
ImaginaryCatDreams@reddit
I use mine in my car. I also use it at home, set my phone on the counter and wander around.
Pm_Me_Mtn_Bikes@reddit
I just use my AirPods
Wrong-Possibility-95@reddit
Beats by Dre haha they cheap and work just the same
jmzstl@reddit
I bought one when I started doing longer LTL linehaul runs because the guys I worked with said they get on group calls all night to help stay awake. And while it was helpful to get my bearings and get answers to work related questions for the first few nights, it got very boring very quickly. I was much happier listening to the radio or podcasts instead.
Now itās always turned off, but within arms reach in case dispatch or a coworker calls me. Maybe once every few months I might call one of my old LTL buddies to catch up.
Unhappy-Bag4525@reddit
Never, if need be I use my own headphones or the truck Bluetooth. I may talk to friends or my lady, but I enjoy YouTube, music, or the wind. I never found the "trucker buddy " thing useful for me and would be annoying talking to another t soul for 24hrs.
MantisShrimpUpTop@reddit
I like the meta glasses a lot. Never cared for headset or earbuds. Clear phone calls, take pics or video hands-free, translate other languages in real time, boosts conversation volume, ask whatās that thing called that Iām looking at, learn while Iām driving about anything.
Pete387@reddit
I wear mine like 10 hours a day. Even when I'm not working. They're Sony Xm5's, I used to have the 4's.
I can ride down the road with my window down, and my Grandma says it sounds like im sitting in my living room, same with my dad when I was pressure washing my truck, the noise canceling ability is crazy and the battery lasts like 20 hours without charging with noise canceling.
Sounds better than the stock Cascadia/Peterbilt radio, and they're comfortable enough to where I don't feel them unless my ears start sweating, so why not.
Spare-Good-5372@reddit
Never have worn one. I don't talk on the phone while I'm driving.
chico-dust@reddit
I just tell dispatch i don't use the phone while driving. They respect my commitment to safety.
Plus they make you look like a douche canoe imo
Automatic-Brother770@reddit
I have one, but it never stays on for long. Mine is small and easy to put in one handed. I use it to call my driver manager occasionally while driving or to answer my phone if I am being called while driving.
egivan6903@reddit
I donāt use headsets tbh itās like everything else for truckers in my opinion over priced for what it offers⦠which are features standard nowadays in even headsets from Temu⦠I do use AirPods pro2 tho tbh you can use those at work and at home, having an iPhone makes things so much easier they have transparency mode, noise cancellation and normal mode/ conversation mode⦠and are big and tacky like the headsets but thatās just me tbh my opinion
KoreanTrucking@reddit
I just wear it when in use and leave it hanging when not.
nicerakk@reddit
Both me and the wife use one. We are a team truck. Can't really use the radio. It's hard enough sleeping with the truck rolling. I listen to TV all day through mine.
vfittipaldi@reddit
That's sad.
ComprehendReading@reddit
It's important to talk to your domestic handler and send your boss your money to them as soon as possible, otherwise they threaten your continued employment and safety /s (this is actually a crime, and if you are a foreign driver on a work visa, your boss is committing a federal crime)
Washedhockeyguy@reddit
I own one, never use it unless I know I have a call coming up
Usual_Safety@reddit
I wear mine to talk on the phone then it goes away.. maybe 15-30 minutes a day
deezkeys098@reddit
Audiobooks and music are a thing to just because it has a microphone doesnāt mean itās only used for talking
Designer-Concern-176@reddit
never owned one either man. the silence is actually kind of nice when youre just grinding through miles. plus who really wants to hear other drivers complaining about traffic for 8 hours straight anyway
Successful-Worth-390@reddit
OP is talking about a Bluetooth headset, not a CB
tvieno@reddit
Nope. Never had one, never will. I used to have a earpiece but I stopped using it. The truck's Bluetooth seems to work fine.
ArtDecoModerne@reddit
Yup. A good day is when I have zero phone calls. If dispatch calls I just use the truck speaker via Bluetooth for the minute or two we talk. Any personal calls are usually kept to my AirPods during a break or my 30.
Old-Wolf-1024@reddit
Sameā¦ā¦never owned one
TruckinTuba@reddit
I used to wear mine a lot, but not so much as a local driver. But OTR it makes the time fly by
TaperingRanger9@reddit
I dont have one either. I see it as a distraction. Plus no one besides my gf goes out of their way to talk to me and she prefers texting.
