"Adam", the little African boy whose torso was found in the Thames.
He has never been identified. We don't know what happened to him or who did it and why. The theory is that this poor little boy (aged between 4-7) was a victim of a human sacrifice.
But we don't know anything for sure.
Colonel_Disarray@reddit
If he has never been identified how do you know he was African?
melonofknowledge@reddit
There's a poetry collection about him called Adam by the late poet Gboyega Adubanjo, which is really brilliant.
As far as I recall, there was one woman who came forward and provided lots of information that seemed plausible and would fit the case, but she had psychological issues and the police were never able to prove any of it.
YchYFi@reddit
I do think they solved it but they can't conclusively say due to lack of evidence.
UnSpanishInquisition@reddit
Yeah i listened to a podcast on it they did actually find more too i think.
hamstertoybox@reddit
That case was horrific at the time but I find it even worse now I have kids.
wilsonthehuman@reddit
Yes! This case is one I think about often after reading about it in one of Sue Black's books. I don't remember the title now but she worked on this case and her description of it was just heartbreaking. That poor little boy deserved better.
Grotbagsthewonderful@reddit
Jill Dando, the circumstances around her death and what she was investigating at the time are incredibly dark.
Twinkubusz@reddit
She wasn't investigating anything. She was a TV presenter, her role was reading an autocue, not investigating crimes.
Grotbagsthewonderful@reddit
First of all she was a journalist not just a TV presenter, secondly her former colleagues have claimed was investigating a pedophile ring at the BBC in the mid 1990s, this well before Saville was outed. She apparently compiled a file of complaints passed it to senior BBC management but no investigation was carried out...
No_Ring_3348@reddit
That bloke only came out with those allegations years after Op Yewtree blew the lid off things, I don't think they're that credible personally. It was either Barry George and there was a massive miscarriage of justice, or it was Arkan the Tiger's hitmen IMO, both equally likely.
Twinkubusz@reddit
No they haven't. This is a myth
Grotbagsthewonderful@reddit
The BBC it's self claim it's a myth.
Twinkubusz@reddit
Which of her colleagues claim she was investigating a paedophile ring...? This is absolutely a myth made up to give credit to this theory
Grotbagsthewonderful@reddit
You'll have to contact the press because it's well documented they came forward to speak about it anonymously, it's the BBC that denied all if it.
Twinkubusz@reddit
Please find us a source, then.
Grotbagsthewonderful@reddit
First all this took me 2 seconds find which you easily could have done, secondly I find the veracity at which you're arguing against information that has been freely available for decades a little suspect, so did you just get out of the wrong side of bed? not actually been to bed, or is this John Birt's secret reddit account? Which it ever it is I'm not continuing this conversation and I suggest you drink less caffeine or take up meditation.
Over-Language2599@reddit
I am reminded by this discussion of the similar threads of accusations on BBC news articles about the death of Saville, and the vehemence with which people defended him. All of which allegations were, of course, swiftly removed by the BBC. You had to be on the ball to catch them.
KnightsOfCidona@reddit
I think people who go with these theories don't remember or know what kind of journalist/tv presenter Jill Dando was. She was more like Susanna Reid or somebody like that. Yeah good at their job but not doing deep, shocking investigations herself. The Jimmy Savile stuff is nonsense. Only real one I can think of that might have legs is it was Serbs because of her work advocating for Bosnian war victims but even then, surely they'd go for someone even more involved. Maybe it was Barry George or not but it was quite likely something like that, a lone wolf obsessed with her.

Puzzled-Job9556@reddit
There are lots of threads on here that claim it is known locally to did it, the police know who did it but do not have the evidence, and she is buried under the University buildings. Every time she comes up this is stated but no-one is able to provide more evidence than "I heard..."
q-the-light@reddit
I'm from the York area, and remember her disappearance extremely well.
It's considered common knowledge that the poor girl ended up in the foundations of Hes East, almost certainly due to a retributory ex-boyfriend with an 'if I can't have you, no one can' attitude. Unfortunately though, there's little in the way of evidence so this is merely the most widely accepted theory by the general public.
No matter what happened to her, I can't even begin to imagine the grief her family must still be going through. All the difficulties they had dealing with her estate really must have rubbed salt in the wound.
Puzzled-Job9556@reddit
Yes, it's horrific.
Twinkubusz@reddit
To be fair, the locals who people claim are guilty were subsequently all arrested, and released with police giving a 'we're confident we're looking at the right people here, we just need 1 person to speak up' kind of statement
Reddit____user___@reddit
For Keith Bennett’s remains to be found and returned to any surviving family, or, failing that, for him to be appropriately interred or cremated with all of the kindness and dignity that he deserves.
Jill Dando’s case is bizarre and I’d very much like to know what on earth happened there. Namely who did it and why.
It almost goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway. Stuart Lubbock’s murderer should be held accountable.
Twinkubusz@reddit
In all likelihood, it probably was Barry George
Over-Language2599@reddit
No it wasn't. He was a harmless simpleton. That was a fit-up.
Grotbagsthewonderful@reddit
She was allegedly investigating a pedophile ring at the time, there is evidence to suggest she may have been murdered by a Serbian assassin so God alone knows what she uncovered.
h00dman@reddit
Do you have any links for this? I tried looking into it a while ago but I could never find anything substantial.

I can’t pick one specifically, but any of the disappearances/murders of kids of colour who didn’t get the same level of media attention or perhaps police effort as their white peers. Similarly for the US unsolved crimes, but especially the Black kids automatically deemed runaways or the Indigenous women and girls who rarely get justice.

Victoria Climbé is one that always breaks my heart a bit.
Everyone knows about Daniel Pelka and Baby P, but hardly anyone seems to know about Victoria.
Exact-Reference3966@reddit
Don't we know that her great-aunt and boyfriend killed her?
charlotteflewk@reddit
That’s very untrue. It was huge news and led directly to the Children’s Act 2004 which overhauled UK child protection laws
sjw_7@reddit
It was covered extensively at the time. It was absolutely horrific what they did to her.
You don't hear about it much anymore though as with all cases that happened quite some time ago they tend to fade from the public consciousness.
franki-pinks@reddit
Really? I always hear her case brought up when there’s discussions on social care failures.
ParkingTradition799@reddit
I remember herbeing on the news, it was so sad. She looked like a happy child. Poor thing.
minipainteruk@reddit
That one photograph of her stays with me.
The one where she's got a black eye, all swollen, and you can see the burns all over her face. And despite that, she's still smiling.
Breaks my heart.

Ames Glover might fall into this category. He was a baby who disappears in 1990 in London. It was extensively investigated but I think there would be a different media legacy if he had been white, whereas it's pretty unknown now.

Shelley Morgan - she was an American artist living in Bristol, who disappeared in 1984, and was found a few months later murdered in the woods. https://shelleymorganmurder.com/
Patricia "Lee" Parsons - she was a masseuse who was found in her car in Epping Forest with crossbow bolt wounds in her head. A neighbour reported hearing Lee argue with a man on the day she died, before watching them getting into her car and driving off. Before this, she had phoned her boyfriend to tell him she had some good news for him.
Lola Shenkoya and Elizabeth Chau - both disappeared from busy areas of Ealing, London during broad daylight. They are believed to have been murdered by the same man.

Bible John.
Electrical-Tea6966@reddit
There’s an episode of Britains Murder Map where they talk about this and theorise that there actually was no Bible John- they think the murders were possibly unconnected.
Maus_Sveti@reddit
Yeah there was a BBC podcast, I think just called Bible John, that came to more or less the same conclusion. I think they also had a theory on who was responsible for one of the murders. It’s been a while so I’m fuzzy on the details, but it was an interesting listen.

Janet Brown. The crime scene was staged to look like a break-in. She was obviously expecting someone. Her head was bound with tape and she was beaten to death. It was someone in her life. The police have probably spoken to them several times.

The disappearance of father and son, Danny and Liam Poole. The pair went to Spain, apparently to look at property, then vanished. The family received a ransom demand, but when they said they’d pay it they never heard back. Believed to be drug related, given Danny’s criminal history, but it’s always stood out to me as a bit of a weird case.

Patrick Warren and David Spencer - two boys who vanished in Solihull and have never been found, now presumed dead sadly.
Of particular interest to me because I grew up in the area and was (am) a similar age. Notable in particular because it received little media attention at the time which was largely attributed to the fact the boys lived on a council estate and were working class.
The prime suspect for the case has since died in prison for another crime so we’ll likely never know the truth.

The main suspect died himself in a very odd way, found overdosed in a bath with the syringe in his spine area, meaning he could not have injected himself (i guess it could be argued he laid on the syringe afterwards, but the way it’s described seems to imply it was in a vein)

That's because it's called The Hunt for The Silver Killer by David Colin's. It's a true-crime book and documentary investigating potential serial murders in Wilmslow, Cheshire, during the 1990s.
It explores whether two elderly couples, initially deemed murder-suicides (1996 and 1999), were actually killed by an unidentified serial killer.
