Found an old checkbook where I logged the gas I bought. Wish prices were still like this!

I remember needing gas and being broke and going in and handing the clerk a crisp dollar bill.

I was getting coffee recently and some young girl came in for $5 of gas. She's not going very far in that Highlander.

That ink color was not available in the disposable pen until 1980

Same.
And regular vs unleaded.
And full service stations.
And humanity.

Wait, so… if a ‘gallon’ is something like 3.7 litres.. then… fuck it I give up 🤷

This is how I feel when I go to Canada.

In the US, gas permanently rose above $1/gal as a result of the first Gulf war, circa 1992.
ubermick@reddit
I moved to the US in 1996, and remember paying sub $1 in Michigan.
RedditSkippy@reddit
I remember paying $.99/gallon in the summer of 1997.
busybox42@reddit
Ya this was common a common price at Native American Reservations (no tax) near me around that time. I think the least I ever paid for a gallon at the Res in the 90's was around $.89.
_plays_in_traffic_@reddit
yeah for a month or so when they opened a new bp. at least around me.
MozzieKiller@reddit
I paid 0.699 in grad school in 1999 outside of St Louis, MO. I remember it distinctly because it was well under a dollar, and, 69.
Do_it_My_Way-79@reddit
This isn’t true at all.
cantcountnoaccount@reddit
Definitely not true everywhere, I remember gas dropping to 89 cents in Ann Arbor at times and I moved there in 1997.
jennifer_m13@reddit
In 1994/5 I member finding gas at $.79 a gallon in Texas.
Viperlite@reddit
You could get it even cheaper in Century City, CA in 1988… if you were willing to die hard.

I guess you were in an area that was way more expensive than I was. I don't recall gas being more than $1.15 ,in 96
logan96@reddit
Yeah, this would vary wildly by region. I still had a gas station near my college in SC with $.99 gas in 2000.
Grunge4U@reddit
$1.44 Which should be around 2000
Icy-Astronaut-9994@reddit
So on the first you bought 8.9 gallons of gas at $12.80.
Skipping ahead, in the Forth Millennium you bought 11.11 gallons for $16.
Then you went to the 5th dimension and paid $14.58 for 10.4 gallons.
Sounds about right.

Could be fill-up markers on a long trip with varying rates. Mileage seems to indicate so

2003 and it's good that each fuel-up is denoted by a number, in case the reader gets confused about the order.

First gas price I recall is $.88 per gallon around ‘87/88. Was paying $1.08 in Roswell, NM 1990/91. Then $1.04 in Houston 1993/4.
MaximumJones@reddit
Gas went down to $1 per gallon all over the U.S. during the early weeks of the pandemic, but that doesn't really count.
gamespite@reddit
Which part of the country? I saw $.99 gas as late as mid-2001 in rural Michigan, but that sure as hell wasn’t the going rate in California at that point.
