Won a PC at a game room & now need a monitor

Hi all, I won a IBUYPOWER PC in a “cut the rope” game at a game room in NJ. It’s model esi5n5601. Do you have any monitor recommendations? I was told on another social media that this is a good starter gamer PC how true is that? I don’t play much besides sims, COD & GTA. Will this handle that? Thank you in advance 🙏
__002_@reddit
All the games will run fineeee. Just make sure to set the game settings accordingly to pc specs. Won't crash at all...
UnderstandingSimple7@reddit
Congrats! For gaming at 1080p with COD and GTA, look for a 24-27" monitor with at least 144Hz. The AOC 24G2 and LG 27GN650 are great budget options — prices vary quite a bit between Amazon markets so worth comparing if you're open to that.
MasterPenguin5@reddit
Looks like that system has a 14400F, 5060 8GB, and 16GB RAM. Certainly a decent starter PC. Should handle all those games reasonably well at 1080p. You could probably play at 1440p for the older games but for anything more modern the 8GB of VRAM is going to limit you to lower settings or resolution. I'd go with a nice 1080p higher refresh rate 24-25" IPS monitor. Not sure what your budget is but some good starting points would be the ViewSonic XG2431 (240Hz) or the LG 24GS65F-B (180Hz, slightly cheaper)

"starter pc"
Some of y'all are really fucking privileged and don't know it lmao
CurryLikesGaming@reddit
Your poverty isn't my problem

CurryLikesGaming@reddit
Don't really understand what you're saying because google translator is kinda shitty but I assume you think I don't have empathy. I actually do, I've been there, rocking a cheap laptop with 8gb rams and igpu, all I could play was league, warframe at 720p, indie games ( hell not even good indie games like hollow knight, my laptop couldn't even run it ), but I still knew that my laptop isn't a good pc or a starter pc. It's way below minimum specs of any games out there, It's called low-end pc. a starter pc should be able to play anything atleast 30-60fps FHD, anything lower than that is a low end pc because you have to sacrifice all your experience for atleast a playable experience, my gaming experience only changed when I get my hands on the i3 9100f+gtx1660 IN 2023.
Iam_just-me@reddit
Ah, ok but you understand that it's one thing to say:”no, this is a mid-range PC” and another to say:”your poverty is not my problem” especially because from the way you said you too experienced a moment when a low-end PC was your main
Iam_just-me@reddit
No, questa frase invece non è normale
adanceparty@reddit
Yes by definition. Ram a bit lower cpu 2 gens old. There's a few things I'd want to upgrade over time but it'll work and play just fine as is. It's not bleeding edge tech, it's not going to push 4k 300fps or anything, but it's certainly suitable. Thus most would categorize it as a starter pc or low end if you prefer. Mid range and high end have little wiggle room this is near the ceiling for a starter pc but it still is one. Sorry that upsets you.
Iam_just-me@reddit
Onestamente considererei questo un Pc di fascia media perché secondo me la classificazione dei Pc sarebbe da fare sui sondaggi hardware di steam il che fa collocare questo Pc in medio alto
ChengliChengbao@reddit
the RTX 5060 is the second worst current-generation consumer gaming GPU that Nvidia makes right now (only the RTX 5050 is behind it). The 5060 was created to target the entry-level gaming GPU level. that is irrefutable and simply a reflection of the current market segments for GPUs. The i5-14400F on the other hand, is a 2-year-old CPU (2024). And when it was new back in Q1 of 2024, it was intels mid-range offering, priced at under $200 USD msrp. No matter how you bend it, sub-$200 for a brand new, (and current gen at the time) is litteraly entry-level price for a CPU. so I really dont see how the i5-14400F could be seen as anything higher than a mid-range market segment CPU. im not even going to talk about the 16GB of ram. 16GB has been a very standard amount for a PC since like 2015 (11 years ago, jesus).
ChengliChengbao@reddit
And before someone calls me a prick, I am not in disagreement that a 14400F and 5060 is affordable for everyone. Personally, I am very biased budget-wise. I believe that an RX 580 would do plenty well for a gaming PC.
However, the reality is simply that those parts are just... the current entry grade products in our year of the lord, 2026.
Iam_just-me@reddit
Concordo(se sei interessato commento sopra)
GeneralKonobi@reddit
In the current hardware space that is considered a starter. I can't afford one, but it doesn't make it not a starter.
Iam_just-me@reddit
chsn2000@reddit
I think "starter" has an implication that you need to/should be upgrading or replacing it. Which let's be real isn't realistic with that platform anyway... A 7500F system would be closer to a "starter" ig
Yes it is a budget/low end PC but I know lots of folks who would be happy as long as they can keep playing Age of Empires or Roblox or whatever else on it, as well as being a decent upgrade from most laptops which probably outnumber desktops (for personal use) by a fair bit.
Symphonic7@reddit
Its not a started PC unless it has a Q6600, an HD 4850, and 4gb of DDR3

Some people's world views are entirely shaped by seething jealousy and the fetishization of victimhood and they don't even know it.
ChengliChengbao@reddit
Literally. I have had people call me too privileged when I complained about my GTX 1650S being too slow to run most modern games enjoyably... in 2022. The 1650S performs something like a 980, a card from 2014.
At this point I just sum it all up to be jealousy.
Raging_Rooster@reddit
Can't relate, laughs in 5090, 9950x3D. Pure opulence
My Logitech Herman Miller gaming Embody is worth more than your entire build.
Live-Juggernaut-221@reddit
Amazing y'all keep proving my point
What do you think my build is bro?
Riipp3r@reddit
It's a 1080p high/maybe medium to low setting 1440p build. That is absolutely mid range starter PC.
Secret-Ad-2145@reddit
My starter PC was a 560 with a i5 2600k. Arguably even better than what OPhad for its day.
AlcoholicLimaBean@reddit
Starter =/= Bad
Azzblack@reddit
or you're just mad poor and mad about it "lmao"...
I guarantee that most people really appreciate whatever pc they have and are fully aware regardless of your shitty choice of words.
Sorry to be a hater dude but from your comment, your attitude really sucks. The vast majority of people work hard for what they have, and very few are really "privileged" or whatever that means to you.
Plenty-Industries@reddit
OP could have won a rig that had a 9850X3D with 128GB of RAM and a 5090, 2x 4TB Gen5 SSDs with a custom liquid loop with hardline tubing, and it would STILL be a starter PC.
A starter PC can be any PC, because it'll be the persons first PC. Thats what "start" means... the beginning point of something.
GiGioP@reddit
That is a starter PC in this day.
Desperate_Put_4568@reddit
What's funny is I have a shitty ass 1660 super pc and even I can tell you his PC is definitely a starter PC lmao. Come on games are so demanding 8 gb doesn't cut it anymore.
MrMostachio@reddit
It’s an 8GB VRAM 5060. Literally the lowest tier current gen nvidia gpu available. Can’t get much more “starter” than that. Maybe with AMD
Familiar-Banana-8116@reddit
You really struck gold with this on.
The market right now is absolute shit. Hard drives, Memory, CPU's and GPU's are all under an incredible amount of price pressure (supply/demand).
And you got all that in that cut the rope game. The only big purchase left is a monitor. And Monitors should be really safe from the supply/demand problems of the other stuff.
I suggest you splurge on the monitor. I don't forsee price changes with them, but fuck it. You dodged a great big cannonball size of a bullet on the other stuff - enjoy a good monitor.
Training-Fee292@reddit (OP)
Definitely planning on splurging! Thank you so much.
TheMagarity@reddit
If you have any retailer near you where monitors are sold then go look at them in person even if you end up ordering one delivered. The monitor is the part your eyes have to look at so it's important to get one you like.
Training-Fee292@reddit (OP)
I will definitely be doing this!!! Thank you so much
Symphonic7@reddit
I see this going two routes. Get a nice 144 Hz 1080p IPS monitor, you will easily be able to do that at 1080p mid settings (with some upscaling for some titles). Or get a 240 Hz 1440p OLED monitor, and that will serve you well into the future even after you replace your PC. Frankly since you won the PC for "free" I would spend a bit more on the monitor if you have the budget.
Training-Fee292@reddit (OP)
I really don’t mind spending on a monitor at all. I appreciate your input!! You have all been very helpful.
R6ckStar@reddit
Don't go for oleds if you are using your computer to do anything that is office related, you will get burn in.
Unless of course you are comfortable in switching the monitor after 3 years.
Yes people will come in and say they don't suffer from burn in, but they do, especially with static elements, and it actually has to be taken care off, with aggressive screen saving.
greentintedlenses@reddit
I use my OLED for gaming and office and wfh.
While OLEDs physically can occur it's really a problem of the past. Not sure the last time you looked into this, but your advice is a few years old on the burn in factor
R6ckStar@reddit
A few months ago, look up hardware unboxed/monitor unboxed.
greentintedlenses@reddit
I think you’re overstating how severe burn-in is on modern OLEDs.
That video literally demonstrates a worst-case torture scenario:
And even then, the burn-in was relatively minor unless specifically viewed on gray backgrounds or test patterns. That’s a huge difference from the old narrative where people acted like OLEDs would self-destruct from opening Excel.
For normal mixed usage, gaming, media, browsing, WFH, etc., modern OLEDs are proving far more durable than people claimed even 3-5 years ago.
Also, modern OLED monitors now include:
So yes, OLED pixels still wear over time. Nobody disputes physics. But “don’t buy OLED if you do office work” is outdated advice in 2026 unless someone is leaving static spreadsheets up 12 hours a day at max brightness for years.
TacoOfGod@reddit
Honestly, keep things simple. Install Steam, set it to start up in Big Picture Mode on boot, and just plug the thing into your TV next to whatever console you have and play that way. Most games you'll want to play will run fine on that, and PC games tend to auto-detect hardware and adjust settings based on that so you won't have to tinker with things much, if at all.
jizzelmeister@reddit
Most tvs are 60fps max. Also unless your sitting back with a controller or got a small tv (>32") it can be hard to play games.
This comes from me using a 50" samsung with a 1060 back in the day
beirch@reddit
Please educate yourself before giving advice.
TacoOfGod@reddit
Most TVs these days are 120hz with gaming modes. That's perfectly fine, especially for a 5060.
justjeepin@reddit
You've won yourself a banger of a little system. The best part is that it's really only going to be the GPU holding you back if you start hitting a wall performance-wise.
Just wanted to reinforce that you do not need to buy a 1080p monitor. Your card is perfectly capable of gaming at 1440p with some reduced details/textures/lighting. Moreso if the game is older, has baked lighting, etc. 1440p/144hz/OLED monitors are dropping in price, and can be had for as low as 450 if you find a deal. IPS models can crack the $200 barrier, just do some research before you buy.
Aranxi_89@reddit
It should be able to run 108i0p monitors at 144Hz with decent results. It is very much a starter PC since it has a basic 5060 and mid tier CPU.
I wouldn't expect it to crush games or anything but it ought to run those games. I don't know if it can handle GTA 6 in a few years (whenever it comes out...). Should run stuff like RDR2 and Cyberpunk decently too.
Costco sells pretty good monitors. Anything that's 24 inches, 1080p, and 144Hz or above should be okay. If you want bigger, 27inch monitors don't look very good at 1080p, so in that case, you might need to run DLSS at lower quality levels for decent FPS.
RAM-I-T@reddit
Hey OP, don’t forget to save back taxes for that PC. Taxes on it may be upwards of $400 so just be prepared for that.
Training-Fee292@reddit (OP)
Really? From a machine inside of an arcade? What if I was a kid that won? lol
RAM-I-T@reddit
Parents would pay it. Welcome to the USA my friend
HellionBerSSerK@reddit
I have a PC from 2016 with a 1070 and 6th gen processor. You have a 5060 and 14th gen processor. You've like 80% more power than me. And I still playing big games in high graphics.
Don't worry about the power, you have enough to run anything.
Take the screen you want between 1080p or 1440p, it will be fine in 144hz.
Modern computer are very powerful and builders always think they have to get monster build to run simple games..
Botsowannabe@reddit
While awaiting your monitor, you could hook up your TV to it for intermittent use. It would give you the time to iron out problems with your PC you may be facing

Newegg has got some good deals on 27" monitors, specifically from Acer and Gigabyte for around $160 right now. Personally I love my curved Samsung 32". It's old, only does 1080p 60hz, but it's treated me so well. You can definitely run at least 144hz at 1080p though with that machine. Should be more than enough for both those games,

for 140$ this is good:

Any well known brand that's 144hz will serve you well. 1080 is fine an can be had for cheap. 1440 OLED money is no issue. I've had good luck with Asus, MSI, and Alienware (OLED) monitors.

That pc is really good, I would go with a 1440p 144hz monitor
