I have recently acquired a 1960 something Dodge D100,m and for the life of me cannot figure out the specific year. I would appreciate any help, below i will post pictures of the car and the VIN, it is only 10 digits long so that makes it a little harder for me.

If you look at the red part of the taillight lens, are there letters and numbers? Anything like “SAE68” or “SAE69”? Often times that’s a clue.
Ok-Ad8998@reddit
Bad idea. That only works when tailight styles are changed every year, which was not true of pickups back then.

The Dodges changed very little year over year back then when it came to both styling and mechanical details.

That tells you the oldest it could be. That is the first year the lens was used.

Forgot about these. Good call.

It is late '60s, but harder to pin down exactly. In 1970, they went to a longer number that starts with an alpha character and includes a code for the model year, but that code isn't part of the 10-digit number.
It breaks down like this: the first two digits (11) is the model code (D100), third digit (6) is the number of cylinders, and the fourth digit is the manufacturing plant where it was assembled. The rest of the number is a sequence number. So no direct code for the model year. But there could be clues in the sequence number that might give you the model year through online Dodge truck places.

Find a forum about Dodge D100 trucks and post several pictures of it there. Include at least front, rear, instrument panel and engine compartment pictures. You will get the right answer quickly.

That’s not a standardized VIN.
The modern VIN system started in 1980.
That’s basically just a manufacturer serial number that isn’t universally coded.

Well, looks like a cool project. Those slants are great motors. 225 with a holley 1920?

I believe there should be a tag in the driver door jamb with some info on it. I found a classic dodge truck vin decoder but that number didnt bring anything up.

i found the tag in the driver door with a lot of info including the VIN, I wish i could post it so you can see

Host on imgur and then link here, tag and a pic of the truck should make it easy.

here is the post
rudbri93@reddit
That looks like a '68 or '69 utiline (stepside)
Salt_Fall_751@reddit (OP)
i know its a stepside, and its a 225 slant 6 cylinder. I got 68 once in the VIN finder but also a bunch of other years from other places
rudbri93@reddit
I think the round corner light is '69 but both of those years had the vertical turn signals in the grill.
Salt_Fall_751@reddit (OP)
honestly i ran it through google AI and chatGPT and i got a 1961, it wouldnt be a big deal if i didnt have to order parts for it which makes it hard to find
Automatic_Mulberry@reddit
There's your issue.
Salt_Fall_751@reddit (OP)
ahhh gotcha
Gixxer_King@reddit
Why don't you look at the title?
Salt_Fall_751@reddit (OP)
I dont have the title, but i have an old insurance card that says 1960, but the truck looks nothing like a 1960. when i use VIN finders they give me different years
Gixxer_King@reddit
Take the VIN and appropriate paperwork to the title office, get a title and then you'll have one with the year on it
