Anyone know how to prevent chewed wires by rodents?

Hi all,
We found rodents in our garage where we park both cars nightly. Also found chewed ABS/traction control wires and droppings on the engine cover of our sedan. However, our truck is totally clean, could this be because it sits higher off the ground?
We have bait coming but it won’t be here until the end of the week, so I’m wondering if anyone has any tricks for keeping the rodents away at night until then. I heard leaving the hood open overnight deters rodents because of the extra light and airflow, would this work at all in a garage that already has rodents? And would it be worth doing for both cars?
Any tips or short term solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank the green new scam. Wire insulation used to be made of plastic. Now it’s make from yummy soy beans.

I have no scientific evidence for this, but rodents seem to hate Irish spring soap. I had a customer that always had a couple bars of soap stashed in the engine bay, he said it kept the rodents away. Since then, over the last 20+ years, if I run into a customer with a rodent problem I suggest some bars of Irish spring (at first just out of curiosity and a chance to test) and I've come to find that it seems to work. Add bars of soap, rodents stop chewing.
Idk why it works but I feel it does. Maybe give it a shot. Irish spring is cheap and easy to get, and maybe it helps you too.

Critter acquisition and targeting device mk 1 mod 8.
A cat. Save one from a cage. Older and has that look. And will stack bodies in a row. The US navy gave a cat an identity card because it would line up 33 ish mice a day. Then sail. And do it all again.

For a quick fix, spray the wires with a mix of water and peppermint oil. I’ve also had success putting dryer sheets or Irish Spring soap chunks near the firewall. It sounds like a myth, but the strong scent usually keeps them away

Hardware store. Snap traps, glue traps, humane luve traps & relocate. Whatever it takes. If the store isn't open now, go in the morning.

Open the hood.

They make battery powered noise emitters that help. Rodents dislike dryer sheets so you can zip tie a few of those around the area, just make sure they're not near anything hot

Peppermint oil.
I used to live in a complex where I parked my car in a "rat highway" asy neighbor used to call it. Connstant rodent damage to vehicles. Mine was never hit. I would spray peppermint oil all over the inside and underside of the engine bay.
