Instagram influencers should be restricted to 50 flights per year, to prevent climate change

Do you know how many 50 is?
Exile4444@reddit
Not that many? I mean, some people fly every other day
xrelaht@reddit
I travel enough for work that I’ll have platinum status pretty soon. I’d have to count every leg separately to get to 50 flights.
xANTJx@reddit
Over two round trips per month. I don’t even go two places per year (plane or car).
cabronfavarito@reddit
Ikr. That’s like having a spending limit of 1 billion
Th1ccSenpai@reddit
I know reddit hates influencers, but why not target celebrities and rich people in general?
ZachMudskipper@reddit
People don't want to admit that private jets are the problem I guess
anakhizer@reddit
Are they though? You could say that for cities a bigger problem is one person per car - same inefficient travel.
Not saying private planes are not an issue, but there are more of them than just that.
Lollipop126@reddit
I think you're right to question it. A single private jet emits up to the emission of 177 cars apparently, accounts for 4% of global aviation emissions, and therefore emitted more than all flights departing Heathrow in 2023. So given that aviation accounts for 2% of global emissions, it doesn't feel like much. But when you account for how few people contribute to this much usage it becomes hugely unethical.
And at least for cars it feels somewhat necessary with the current state of infrastructure around the world (though if they're driving in a well connected city, I think it's equally fair to ask wtf they're doing), whereas very few people actually need to be on a private jet other than the privacy and luxury of it when you have the luxurious enough option of first class.
Oxfam claims that the richest 1% will be responsible for 1.3 million climate related excess deaths so do with that info what you will.
ZachMudskipper@reddit
Of course there's more but private jets are a big cause. So are the rockets they use for space travel stuff but it's not like that'll stop anytime soon. Not any one thing to directly link it to
pomoerotic@reddit
And 50 posts per year, to prevent leaking brain flatulence
LongOrganization7838@reddit
What climate change would it prevent? The influences that travel more than that are a i tiny number and airlines aren't going to cancel any flights because a handful of people stop flying as much
Libertas888@reddit
Please stop using logic - we’re trying to stop the climate from changing!)
Traditional-Row5237@reddit
Ah yes that makes sense. The flights that are already going to fly regardless and are scheduled months in advance? Just saying something to say something
derbrauer@reddit
You'd get the same effect if you grounded Taylor Swift

Define Influencer
flopsyplum@reddit (OP)
A person who gets paid by sponsors to post on social media?
TypicalPDXhipster@reddit
Ahh…I didn’t realize influencers were always paid. TIL! I thought it was just annoying people who shoot videos of themselves to post on Instagram
68024@reddit
Way too many. 10 at most.
isactuallyspiderman@reddit
How about 5?
sotek2345@reddit
Crazier idea, all flights should be stopped except for emergencies. No one truly needs to fly.
MrSal7@reddit
I watched a video about some southeast Asian lady that works for a company, and she takes a plane flight to and from work EVERYDAY.
She wasn’t even a top level executive. Just some mid to low tier manager.
Apparently plenty of people like her over there take flights like people in Europe take the train or subway.
ConstantClue208@reddit
Crazier Idea: Social media influencers shouldn’t exist
PizzaTacoCat312@reddit
Yeah tiktok has gotten so bad. Let alone if you accidentally click on something from their shop.
Dr-Goochy@reddit
Once you reach a certain amount of followers, straight to the gulag.
ZachMudskipper@reddit
I like the idea of an annual influencer thunderdome
(LOL, can't believe my comment got deleted because I used the word v o te)

Instagram influencers should be restricted!
Fixed that for you.
scrotumscab@reddit
Ceos should be required to work remotely
ViewFromHalf-WayDown@reddit
W for wanting to prevent climate change, but ngl this wouldn’t make the slightest diff
BaitmasterG@reddit
Anyone calling themselves an influencer should be put through a mincer
jeffmc81@reddit
They should buy spirit just for themselves
34786t234890@reddit
No, just stop giving them fucking money.
Educational-Bad4992@reddit
Most aren't even flying. They're paying for a 10 minute photoshoot while the plane is sitting on the tarmac
Calm_Company_1914@reddit
This would make influencers overall fly more often id bet
cabronfavarito@reddit
50?😳😳😳bro I’m pretty sure most influencers don’t even fly that much
dancingmale@reddit
We should delete you
pereuse@reddit
I would love for this to be a restriction to millionaires and billionaires too
