Seems like only the green one is heavily discounted
timwang2006@reddit
5.11 needs to be extremely subtle about the branding and logo on this if they actually want to sell any. I would take this trail running except I really don't want to start that conversation with the REI crowd.
LilGayKIdd@reddit
What's that?
KanyePNWest88@reddit
REI is very much anti gun and anti hunter
chemscibase@reddit
Dawg I am a regular REI customer, gorpcore, but love gatz n hunting. I think theres a fair bit of overlap. Even with major divisions in politics, people who love the outdoors, love the outdoors. I think theres a tacit understanding in the rei crowd that hunters are a major source of wildlife and nature conservation.
As a company, that could very well be true, idk.
KanyePNWest88@reddit
No. They have all their stores as gun free zones in my area. They hate guns sand gun owners
InternalServerErr500@reddit
That's more of an insurance thing than a politics thing. You should drop by an REI in Colorado, plenty of overlap. Anything camo goes quick.
theoriginalharbinger@reddit
REI boycotted Vista Outdoor (optics, ammo, and the like).
That said, REI has become lifestyle moreso than outdoors of late, so I doubt anyone would know about 5.11, and would probably assume it's a reference to the Yosemite Decimal System.
thelateralus@reddit
It is a reference to the YDS. It was started by Royal Robbins. They made climbing stuff first, then realized it was popular with the tactical crowd.
theoriginalharbinger@reddit
TIL!
Kinda hate that "tactical" has come to mean "poser" or "rugged." Like, I just need pants that wont rip along my ass crack if I slide down some slickrock - they don't have to be "tactical", but thats what im stuck with.

Trail hippies and serious outdoors people. Generally, they are not a crossover demographic with gun enthusiasts.
JimBridger_@reddit
Since when is 5.11 doing running vests?
Knee_High_Cat_Beef@reddit
Seems like a great deal, but what are these for?
HRslammR@reddit
The hiking and camping market is bigger than the tactical gear market
RonaldWRailgun@reddit
I am trying to figure out if that solution (2L bladder + 2 front pockets) is more convenient than just a big backpack with a 3L bladder. Maybe it's more balanced? Especially for running and/or smaller people?
Either way, using a bladder on a hike/run and being able to sip often rather than stopping to gulp down your drinks is such a huge game changer, I won't ever hike without a bladder system again.
junkmiles@reddit
Personally I hate bladders, and the front mounted flasks are a lot easier to deal with.
This sort of style is basically the standard for long distance trail running, and has been working its way into standard hiking packs.
dudertheduder@reddit
Also look at how huge the shoulder straps are ... Lots of weight distribution and it hugs your body so if you are running it ain't janglin all over tha place.
cyclorphan@reddit
It looks like a very comfy design to wear even if it is a bit small for many applications.
Subverto_@reddit
I do the same thing with peeing. Just let a little out here and there as I walk rather than having to stop and take one big piss. Massive game changer!
timwang2006@reddit
The current meta for trail running is two quick access soft bottles on the chest on a vest like this. The back is generally for a light windbreak and snacks. Bladders have really fallen out of favor for various reasons. Hard to clean, hard to fill, and impossible to monitor your remaining levels.
theoriginalharbinger@reddit
These, specifically, compete with Osprey and Nathan and to a lesser degree Camelbak for the ultrarunning/lightweight technical venture market. The front pocket arrangement is to allow easy access to bottles and to put phones and the like in the front pockets and be able to access them while running.
They're useful if you're climbing, running, rappelling, or some combination thereof, and so on. You can use a regular hip belt with stuff on it without it interfering with the backpack, which is kinda nice, and they don't interfere with a climbing or sport harness. The other competitors in this space are the Nathan Crossover 15L and Osprey Duro 15L, if you want to cross shop.
You don't get the NBC fittings Camelbak sticks on their stuff (which, fine; I'm not planning on needing to rock the Tyvek suit while hiking, for the most part).
I ran across the grand canyon - twice - in about 13 hours with the Osprey competitor to this pack, and should you ever feel inclined to go visit places where movies like "127 hours" were filmed, pretty much all the outdoors-people are going to be using something like this, because slot canyons, running water, and climbing/scrambling all do a lot better with something thin-profile.
Knee_High_Cat_Beef@reddit
That's pretty insane. Thanks for explaining it.
yami76@reddit
Trail running I’d guess?
_NedPepper_@reddit
Yeah, definitely a hydration pack
MezzanineMan@reddit (OP)
I already use a backpack as a range bag for random accoutrements, this'll be a nice cheap size and comfort upgrade for me
Liberatorofatropia@reddit
Backpack with titties
RBJ_09@reddit
Annoying the product page is only showing it worn from the rear

Can I store my chicken breasts?
How_Bout_Dem_Apples_@reddit
Raw or cooked?
Trail-turtle@reddit
Mystery Ranch Bridger did it better
chemscibase@reddit
I've never seen a Mystery Ranch pack this small or anything that resembles a trail running pack. Tried googling bridger and its a 45-65L pack.
MezzanineMan@reddit (OP)
for $40?
Trail-turtle@reddit
I didn't say cheaper. Just bringing up the Bridger because it's a good design, and people may want a more serious version of it
TalaxianNeckbeard@reddit
Will this chafe my nipples? It looks like it will chafe my nipples.
joeg26reddit@reddit
I have nipples
Can you milk me?
osirhc@reddit
how cool will I look on my motorcycle with this
DennRN@reddit
I have a Kreiga too and I learned one thing that I hope everyone here can benefit from, pads and gear across the chest traps a lot of heat and sweat. I’m not normally a sweaty person but if you’re active it really fucking sucks because the sweat doesn’t evaporate, which traps more of that heat, which causes more sweat. I will say I love the bag, but it gets really uncomfortable to wear as it gets warmer outside and some days it’s a recipe for being miserable.
osirhc@reddit
I appreciate that, I run warm and tend to be a sweaty guy when it gets hot out. I might need to look elsewhere in this case
jput420@reddit
Honestly looks great for a motorcycle especially out dirt biking when you need some storage 🤷🏽♂️ I already have a kriega but hard to pass up for this price
sig_pistols@reddit
This is essentially a running vest with a larger backpack capacity, but then I remembered no one on this sub runs...
LeaningLindsey@reddit
This pack, and my James Reeves 5.11 Extra Short Shorty Shorts (TM), would make a killer high speed low drag kit.
Bear2th@reddit
Would this be a solid budget option for rucking?
Middle-Tip2891@reddit
woodland camo for $45 looks cool
ratchman5000@reddit
Looks like a Baby Bjorn Camelbak life vest.
