Office workers, would you buy an office chair that is a converted car seat?

Hey guys,
I know this is like probably the most random question ever, but was just thinking the other day whilst driving, that car seats are really comfortable. So what if a car seat was converted into an office chair? Would anyone consider this? Or is it a really bad idea?
Many thanks! :D

Car seats are comfortable when you sit in them in the pose you use for driving.
They are unlikely to be comfortable for 8 hours typing.

I'm sitting on one right now, it's the most comfortable chair I've ever owned.
It's cumbersome and top-heavy, sure - it took a while to get the balance right when I was building it - but it's totally worth it. I can spend 12 hours a day in it and still be comfortable, something no other chair I've ever had could come close to.

No, but I don't have a race car for a bed either so I may be the wrong audience.
Whilst car seats can be comfy, a massive amount of research goes into making sure (good quality) office chairs don't screw you up too much when sitting in them for 7 hours per day.

Aye. I don't think keyboard and mouse are used in cars much though.

I made one years ago with a nova Sr seat welded onto the base of an office chair. Novelty soon wore off
Belterhaze31@reddit
Tbf a nova SR seat is the last thing I’d wanna sit on in this day and age
Can you imagine a UV light on one
kylehyde84@reddit
I'd rather not - I still have one...

aren't loads of office chairs already styled to look like car chairs? almost every streamer seems to have holes in their seat which are ripping off the holes that would be for a harness.
miqqqq@reddit
Those are shitty ‘gaming chairs’ that destroy your back over time, I fell for that years ago
Former_Intern_8271@reddit
I don't know why people thought a chair designed for throwing someone around a racetrack would ever be a good idea to use with a computer
SowwieWhopper@reddit
Yeah you wanna get a proper office chair, having a gaming chair for around 18 months ruined my back. Got one through work that costs around £2k and it’s a revelation

Toyota are selling an office chair that’s using a seat from the Crown, which is a Japanese only luxury car. That, yes. If it weren’t ~£3,000. Otherwise, no.
I do have a Honda Civic seat on my sim rig. In that, it’s fine but if it were mounted like an office chair is, it wouldn’t be very good.
Amazing-Visual-2919@reddit
I think it'd be a lot heavier than most office chairs? Top heavy maybe?
chroniccomplexcase@reddit
I read this as a baby car seat at first and was confused at how recycling baby car seats into adult office chairs would work. It’s only when reading the comments did I realise my error.
That said, many electric full framed wheelchairs are similar to car seats. You can even get office chairs that drive like a joystick like a powered wheelchair. I had one in my classroom and the seat was similar to a car seat. It was similar to this but with a joystick to drive it like this. My colleagues and students were very jealous of it. My active wheelchair is comfy but this was next level. So it sort of already exists

There probably is a market for bases that would take a seat from the car. But then for adjusting any relatively new comfortable car seat you would need a 12V supply. That was a deal breaker for me, otherwise I would be typing this sitting in a chair from Volvo S60, instead of gaming chair from Currys. If I would figure out how to safely get enough power to it, it would be a perfect heated desk chair for me.
BillyBlaze314@reddit
That's most "gamer" chairs you can buy, and no they suck.
Ergonomic chair every day of the week
International_Goat31@reddit
This is what a early "gaming chairs" were before they got cheaper and flimsier. You can still find them if you go looking. Pretty sure at least some car manufacturers (was it Toyota?) just sell them as a complete product for a few grand.
xian0@reddit
Cars seats aren't as comfortable as executive chairs.
Sad-Wrap6555@reddit
a new works van got delayed during fit out so they sent us out on jobs for a month in one of the directors old jags ..loved the heated leather seats in that so any chair would need the heating included
BlueLinnet@reddit
They're comfortable in a moving car, but in an office, they'll just be like an office chair.
Ralphisinthehouse@reddit
Both of these are available on Google. They're quite expensive though, but yes, I definitely would. The only thing to remember is that car chairs are much bigger than they appear in cars when you put them on an office chair stand.
Altruistic_Grocery81@reddit
Always loved the idea of the Alfa Romeo office chairs I used to see on eBay, but don’t think I’d actually want to sit in one for an entire working day.
ServerLost@reddit
Nope. Think about how you drive versus how you type on a keyboard, not the same range of motion at all.
Relevant_Natural3471@reddit
Generally a bad idea - bear in mind that not a lot of car seats are actually comfortable enough to be an office chair - try driving for 7 hours and you'll change your mind (e.g. a full working day).
They are also, usually, extremely heavy. Any in the last 15 years or so will typically, also, have airbags.
People might like them enough to make one themselves, but I can't see someone paying enough to clear a profit on one. Then, on top of that, you'd have to probably put in good support for the extra weight etc.
Looked into it about 15 years ago when top gear did it and it wasn't cheap or easy to actually get a decent supply of desirable seats.
Rare_Lunch4727@reddit
This is already a thing they are called "gamer chairs"
rogeelein@reddit
honestly it sounds cool but for actual desk work it’d probably get annoying fast
