Hope they do it ASAP. Fuck this piece of shit. Rest in Peace Athena Strand š
Pretty_Shallot_586@reddit
surprised trump didn't commute his sentence and ask him to be his Sec of State.
At least one fucking pedophile will face justice.
jawnnwickk@reddit
What the fuck does Trump have to to with this lol? Libs of Reddit
purgance@reddit
Oh, wow - sorry to be the one that has to break it to you, but President Trump is a serial child rapist.
Big_Puzzled@reddit
TDS IS STRONG IN HERE BOYS
TheClownIsReady@reddit
Of course, they have to make absolutely everything about Trump. Their lives would have no meaning unless they thought about him 24/7. They think about Trump more than Trump supporters doā¦š.
purgance@reddit
Classic Trump, attack the accuser not the criminal. Trump raped children, and all you want to talk about is how bad the people saying that he did are.
jawnnwickk@reddit
Still has nothing to do with this lol yall are so blinded itās insane
purgance@reddit
Look at how Trump has protected himself and other pedophiles for instruction on the connection.
jawnnwickk@reddit
No correlation hope this helps!
jabdtx@reddit
You continue to comment on the subject because you willfully rolled into the booth and cast your vote to elect the pathological liar who used to fuck children against their will while being held captive against their will.
Thereās your correlation because thatās who you are and you canāt help but broadcast it.
Yarusenai@reddit
How is there no correlation? They put it in the simplest terms possible and you don't get it
GoodShitBroBro@reddit
He's just a complete idiot who chooses to be blind to the correlation.
danxmanly@reddit
Agreed... But they'll work Trump into anything as they are that pathetic.
fistedwithlove@reddit
And you'd clean his tiny mushroom if he fucked your mother.
Pathetic is a spectrum.Ā
frenchezz@reddit
Correct. But now that the subject has been brought up your first reaction is to defend a pedophile.
gorampardos@reddit
>has nothing to do with this
the two raped children, itās not a difficult line to draw
chezzer33@reddit
I donāt know if heās arguing this point badly but it does detract from this story to bring in other rapists and pedophiles to the conversation. So in that way it doesnāt have much to do with this specific pedophile murderer.
accio_gold@reddit
Libs of reddit should be opposed to the death penalty
Quirky-Mode8676@reddit
lol, a conservative is surprised someone has their own thoughts instead of agreeing with whatever a Fox News host or pedo says.
accio_gold@reddit
Wait, opposing the death penalty makes you conservative?
SPat24@reddit
Is reading comprehension really this difficult for you?
accio_gold@reddit
I didn't think it was, but I suppose so.
Isn't being opposed to the death penalty a liberal value?
frenchezz@reddit
Awww itās almost like we donāt base our votes on one singular issue.
LazerShark1313@reddit
Was he a pedophile too? I guess I havenāt been following the case closely
HIM_Darling@reddit
Yes. It wasnāt heavily publicized, but it was mentioned at some point they found his DNA āin places it shouldnāt be on a little girlā.

I hope he vomits and soils on himself when he dies, the way that little girl did when he raped her.Ā

I could not bear to listen to the audio. Tanner was largely living below the radar, with his previous abuses not exposed. We have to live with the knowledge there are people like Tanner out there with broken brains, with no capacity for empathy. His existence is a biological tragedy for all involved - the lead poisoning, fetal alcohol syndrome, etc - possibly broke the empathy curcuit in his brain. I prefer biological explainations to just "pure evil". That said, people with brains like his should never be in society, and in this case, the DP would permanently end the theat to others. The disturbing thing is, how many of these broken brains are out in society, functioning, and suddenly do something so horrific? And how do we spot it and deal with them before tragedy strikes?
TheClownIsReady@reddit
I thought the audio was not released to the public.
ohlaohloo@reddit
It wasnāt
TheClownIsReady@reddit
So why did he say he couldnāt bear to listen to it?
ohlaohloo@reddit
He either meant it hypothetically (ie I could never listen to that) or possibly, literally that he couldnāt finish listening to someone DESCRIBING the audio (two reporters in the courtroom gave a 20 minute breakdown on YouTube.)
The audio has not and will never be released.
TheClownIsReady@reddit
I understand he may have meant that but he didnāt phrase it correctlyā¦a bit confusing.
No_Bend8@reddit
I hope he doesn't sit on death row for 60 years.
omar_strollin@reddit
He will, and cost us more than life in prison.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
Yeah Liberals suddenly care about the costs of things lmao
Scaasic@reddit
All the democratic presidents have brought us closer to a balanced budget than the republican ones who ran up deficits on wars.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
Like Mamdani is doing right now? lmao No president has come close since Bill Clinton 30 years ago.
Scaasic@reddit
That's inaccurate, Clinton was the only one to run a surplus but Obama did bring us closer, and Biden also brought us much closer than both Trump admins and all modern GOP presidents.

Trunkins@reddit
I like how he deflects to Mamdani when the convo was about presidents because they have nothing to backup their argument
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
well there havent been a lot of DEM presidents recently, and it looks like it will continue that way LIBBY
Trunkins@reddit
Not a liberal you dipshit.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
sure buddy lol
calmrain@reddit
Imagine being this much of an insufferable asshat ā I literally canāt rn, Iām crying š
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
Don't gaslight me asshole. Yes you are
GoodQueenFluffenChop@reddit
Last I checked Mamdani is not president of United States and a mayor doesn't that kind of power.
oliviagardens@reddit
Is Mamdani president? How is he relevant?
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
no just mayor of the largest city. he has no real power at all (sarcasm)
oliviagardens@reddit
I struggle to see how a mayor is equal to a president, regardless of their city. How has Mamdani impacted your life, personally?
smoke_inyoureyes@reddit
It wonāt be 60 but it will likely be 20+. Three inmates are scheduled for execution in TX this year and they all committed their crimes 20+ years ago.
Heāll get to enjoy an entire decade plus alive in a prison until then.
Glittering_War3061@reddit
He will probably be on death row at least 20 years.
phu-q-2@reddit
However, if what they say is true about how people like him are treated on the inside then I rather like the idea of him living for many years. I don't mind paying for that at all, he deserves every terrible thing imaginable in there.
chezzer33@reddit
He wonāt have the normal treatment that pedophiles get in prison due to being on death row. However, being on death row is its own special torture due to the near solitary state these people stay in 23 hours a day.
TemporaryNameMan@reddit
Jesus
Pattyrocksintexas@reddit
Nice finally a smart Judge.
ohlaohloo@reddit
It was a unanimous jury; not up to the judge.
Content_Daikon_415@reddit
Heās going to be sitting around living protected for decades. Thats not justiceĀ
FieryTitmouse55@reddit
Not at all. It makes me sick.
TTUShooter@reddit
I'll lead off my comment with, Good riddance to bad rubbish. the only thing i'm sad about is he'll sit on death row for almost 20 years before he gets what he deserves.
The second portion of my comment is about the courts and my understanding of how they operate.
dude plead guilty.... but still had a trial? and got the death sentence?
In pretty much every court case i've ever read about, If a guilty plea is rendered, there is no need for a trial. And generally defense council will seek a guaranteed sentence before the defendant offers up the guilty plea.
if the DA wont agree to take the death penalty off the table, it would seem to me as the defense attorney that the most advantageous position to take is enter a not guilty plea and try to poke holes in the case, try to find technicality's and procedural issues, and hope for the off chance for a single juror to not go along with it.
I think this is the first case i've ever heard of that the person pled guilty but still ended up with a death sentence.
Note to self to not hire this dude's defense lawyer should i ever find myself in need of one.
But again, fuck this dude and his execution should be carried out before the weekend....
FieryTitmouse55@reddit
Yeah. We need to bring back the firing squad.
brobradh77@reddit
I agree..I think if you plead guilty and have video of you doing the crime you shouldn't get appeals. March his ass right to the death chamber.
ReadyBiscotti5320@reddit
But those 20 years on death row are really, really going to suck.
BmoreDude92@reddit
In Texas you have the punishment phase. That is what this is. He plead guilty the day trial was supposed to start.
TTUShooter@reddit
yeah nevermind. I removed the part of my comment that was pointing out the uniqueness of this case vs many many other murder cases because Reddit apparently thinks that the observation of that difference, is me saying that I dont think this dude deserves what is coming to him. (which by the way, He does.)
never change, reddit....
kirwten@reddit
the fact itās the death penalty lowkey makes me really upset he should have to suffer for the rest of his life
Montallas@reddit
Yeah I agree. While Iām generally opposed to the death penalty due to more than a few people innocent people having been executed - itās pretty fucking clear that this guy did it. That being said, I also think death is too good for this guy. Iād rather he sit and miserably rot for as long as possible.
FieryTitmouse55@reddit
Nah. For true brutal criminals a swift death sentence is what the public deserves.
kirwten@reddit
exactly, iām against it because of those reasons as well. i suppose if anyoneās gonna get it, it should be him⦠as long as he suffers and lives in fear for a bit until his day comes.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
He's treated as if he's already dead - I'm not sure how you're grasping that the conditions on death row are significantly worse than general population.
kirwten@reddit
you sound upset.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
No? I'm just not sure how being on death row is suffering less? when your quality of life is higher and you don't have the impending fear of death with a life sentence
kirwten@reddit
we already covered this ur late for class
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
No you're just arrogantly wrong.
kirwten@reddit
i mean, i canāt force you to read the rest of this thread can i? no use trying to reason with u
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
If you have no actual argument you can just say that, bruh
kirwten@reddit
let me help you⦠ur wasting ur time trying to argue with me about something i already agreed with and stated myself.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
K
kirwten@reddit
oh my god open the schools ššš a child left behind
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
I'm sorry you feel left behind. But clearly...yeah... you were.
TCBloo@reddit
With all the appeals, he's going to sit in prison for decades waiting for the Sword of Damocles to fall. Right now, he's got uncertainty and hope. Both of which are terrible things to have when you're sitting in a cell on death row.
kirwten@reddit
i saw another redditor say something similar and it made me feel a little better, thank you.
Cansum1helpme@reddit
So whatās the deal? Death or life in prison ???
BigNastyG817@reddit
Death. But wow WFAA needs to fire the editor. First paragraph says life sentence, then last paragraph says death penalty
TheClownIsReady@reddit
Probably an intern whoās still learning the ropes.
dallascowboysgirl@reddit
Death
Cansum1helpme@reddit
Hope FedEx and Big Topspin have deep pockets-the civil suit will be next, if itās not concurrent already.
This guy should have NEVER been in a public facing role given his history.
opinionsOnPears@reddit
He didnāt have any criminal history for them to by, how would they have known?
Besides that sort of attitude is what prevents those that served their time, actually changed, and looking for a fresh start be able to find a job.
poop_pebbles@reddit
For some reason I thought they said this kid was 41. Was pretty sure I had speech therapy class with him in middle school, but I was wrong. Im almost 15 years older than he is.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
okay? worthless comment
chezzer33@reddit
I think heās just recording his thoughts to come back later and reflect.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
ah gotcha
Sexton_Crikey@reddit
I have a personal connection to this case. Not giving any details, but a very close friend of mine has been way fucked up during all of this shit. This guy is a grade A monster.
Big_Puzzled@reddit
I need the inmates of the prison to deliver a lil justice
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
#HangHorner
technoskald@reddit
Let him rot. Death penalty just costs us more than it would take to let him sit in a cell for the rest of his natural life.
Beginning-Lychee6938@reddit
I'm sure the financial cost of this is of the utmost important to
BigNastyG817@reddit
Fuck it, govt wastes money on so many things. Iām ok with them wasting oodles of money to put this dirt bag under.
PomeloPepper@reddit
You get plenty of appeals with a life sentence too.
ViralPoker@reddit
After reading the article, it says life in prison.
Glittering_War3061@reddit
It was death
BryanW94@reddit
Bad editor
BrickGlum9579@reddit
Itās death if you watch the video the judge says death. I think itās just badly written article.
servetarider@reddit
Shit happens when youāre on deadline as a reporter and an editor is yelling for you to just turn the story in. This was written really fast and mistakes were made. It also contains whatās known as a widow quote ā an out of place quote that doesnāt match the previous sentence. However, enjoy human produced journalism while can because AI news stories are worse and absolutely riddled with mistakes. You get what you pay for.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
DMN says otherwise https://www.dallasnews.com/news/courts/article/athena-strand-trial-closing-arguments-soon-22241561.php
penguin21512@reddit
Thatās what I see as well. It even says the jury was choosing between the death penalty and life in prison, yet the headline is death penalty. Just a poor job of proofreading this article.
PersonalKittyKat@reddit

dallasuptowner@reddit
I feel like the sentencing phase of this went on for weeks of near endless media coverage, which really didn't seem to serve any purpose. It was really feeling more like spectacle for the sake of spectacle than sober coverage of a normal part of our criminal justice system.
InevitableCreme911@reddit
There are people out there who think this guys doesnāt deserve death for this. Sick world tbh.
McPenguin87@reddit
No obsession with any of it. I just meant sometimes karma hits you hard and usually happens to these guys in any kind of situation.
medicwhat@reddit
Hope he waviest all his appeals.
lightiggy@reddit
He won't. Horner pleaded guilty in a desperate attempt to save himself.
burberrycondom@reddit (OP)
Love that they still imposed death even with a guilty plea. Beyond deserved. Wouldnāt be surprised if the inmates kill him before the state does lol
McPenguin87@reddit
I was about to say thereās probably someone in prison waiting for him already lol
ScottOwenJones@reddit
Peopleās obsession with the idea that literal convicts have some strange sense of morality and justice when it comes to child molesters and murderers is so odd. It just doesnāt happen even a fraction of the frequency people like you seem to think it does. For a lot of reasons, including that people like Horner are under higher security, but mostly because convicted criminals who are in state or federal prison just donāt care about avenging random child victims.
lightiggy@reddit
Horner is already on death row anyway. Why go through the trouble of killing him when the state is going to do it anyway?
lightiggy@reddit
Highly unlikely. There have been far worse people (as much I hate to say that) on death row who have lived to see their execution dates. Death row is also more secure and the frequency of child molesters that get murdered in prison in retaliation for their crimes is greatly exaggerated.
Death row inmates also have a clear incentive to not kill Horner, since it'd wreck their chances of getting off death row.
burberrycondom@reddit (OP)
Makes sense. Iām happy with the verdict regardless.
blerp421@reddit
I wish they could sentence him to death and carry it out several times. One lethal injection does not seem like nearly enoughā¦
monac_3@reddit
Based on what he did to this child and others, I'm thinking lethal injection will be too humane and peaceful.
