G36 being test fired at the HK factory, it goes through 9 100 round drum mags until the handguard catches on fire, it's then thrown into the snow to both put out the fire and to cool down and then fired again with a 30 round mag

That gun have excellent recoil midigation or guy have arm made of steel.
GoredonTheDestroyer@reddit
I mean, it's 5.56. Not exactly a cartridge known for bone-rattling, skull-punishing recoil.
Guiramad0@reddit
Still that guy is firing it with one hand in his pocket and it almost dosent move
KGeddon@reddit
Keep in mind he is not just firing it with one hand in his pocket.
He is firing it one handed, while the gun is on fire. The man is an absolute unit.
ryanhendrickson@reddit
I like how he seems completely unconcerned that it's on fire.
That_Somewhere_4593@reddit
He is firing it while also 'firing' it.

It's super easy to do on a SAW. With the weight of the rounds holding the barrel down you just gotta put the stock up in the pocket and the only muscle power you're using is to hold it up
BusterDarkholer@reddit
Both things can be true. He looks like an absolute unit.
GiantNormalDwarf@reddit
Look at the size of the other guys in the video. That guy is tall.
BradassMofo@reddit
Not only that it's got a massive drum mag weighing it down.
GoredonTheDestroyer@reddit
And someone with however many years of experience handling fully-automatic firearms will be able to handle them in ways that don't make much sense to your average Joe Idiot with no experience handling machine guns.
The_Best_Yak_Ever@reddit
Yep. He knows how to position himself to balance everything out, even one handed. Plus, I’m guessing homeboy is 6’6” or more. I have a buddy like that. Big ol Russian giant. I have a picture of him making a mid 19th musket look like a little stick.

The guy shooting is Robert Hirt, the (lead) designer. There is a translation by HKpro member Lenkers (below) that is accurate:
0:00 - 0:05 Hirt: "G36 No. 205 fire to destruction."
0:09 - 0:09 Backround: "Slow down Robert, everybody wants to attend."
0:10 - 0:25 Discussion on how to hold the rifle.
0:32 "Open fire, or?!"
0:33 "Attention!" (brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr commences)
0:40 - 0:50 Backround: "The ejection is flawless" (Note the guy in the backround, totally exited about the trajectory of the empty shells)
1:29 "The fourth one? Yes"
1:45 "Be careful, the gas block is getting red."
2:00 "600, yes? Yes!"
2:13 "Now its getting hot. 700? Yes!"
2:33 "We've done it, now it burns."
2:35 "I owe you a beer (?)"
2:37 Hirt: "The bolt hold open doesn't work anymore."
2:41 Hirt: "Let's shoot some more?" (Literally: Shall we throw out some more?)
2:44 "Better take care!"
2:55 "Throw it away, stop it!"
2:59 Hirt: "Do you have one more?"
3:03 -3:08 "How many? 800! But be careful!"
3:08 Hirt: "One more!"
3:17 "Throw it away, now! Throw it away, NOW!"
3:24 "Well done!"
3:27 "Lick my ass"
3:29 Hirt: "205 after 900 rounds sustained fire one magazine 30 rounds. Bolt hold open works, wicked! It works! G36 205 after 900 rounds one magazine 30 rounds runs without complaints."
3:53 Hirt: "GEIL!"
reznov-where-are-you@reddit
"the bolt hold open doesnt work anymore" immediately followed by " let's shoot some more" is hilarious
RuralfireAUS@reddit
"Cry some more!"
DarkStorm440@reddit
"Lick my ass" 😂
GiantNormalDwarf@reddit
Yes, that's a multifunctional expression here. Depending on context, it can mean, well, what it says but it's also an expression of disgust, rejection or surprise, like here.
DarkStorm440@reddit
Got it, thank you for the translation. 😀
sadrice@reddit
Multifunctional indeed.
borkman2@reddit
A regional variant of "fuck me!" I guess?
GiantNormalDwarf@reddit
Combination of "fuck me!" and "fuck you!" With some gray areas. While it ostensibly originated in southern Germany (google Götz von Berlichingen) it's used in all of Germany to a degree.
borkman2@reddit
Neat
Fun to learn these sorts of things.
lukas_aa@reddit
It‘s not just German, in the video they all speak with a very thick Swabian dialect, which sounds hilarious to me (in, like, I can‘t take them serious, or believe they‘re holding real guns when they speak like this 😂😂😂).

Looselipssinkships93@reddit (OP)
it's a standard G36 and not the MG36 which has the heavier barrel
Gnoobl@reddit
Love the local dialect.

Wasnt this gun notorious for rapidly loosing alll accuracy and failing in hot climates after a few short bursts
MFOslave@reddit
Yes but If I remember correctly this was incorrect and was kind of a calculated misinformation campaign by the Bundeswehr to get a new Rifle. Heckler & Koch sued the German government and won.
Davenator_98@reddit
But H&K did change the design as a follow-up, right?
AFAIK, all modern G36s have a reinforced trunnion similar to the LMG variant.
AyeBraine@reddit
It's just so disproportional. Hot weather is barely 20 degrees Celsius above "moderate weather". A rifle's barrel after a single mag dump is in the hundreds of degrees. Either it falls apart after a few shots, or it doesn't care at all about hot weather.
(Now, lubrication and powder burn and maybe even spring tension could change between sub-zero frost and 40°C heat, but that's not what they alleged).
forrest1985_@reddit
“Allegedly”
BradassMofo@reddit
That was an allegation but it wasn't true.
ForsakenSun6004@reddit
My favorite part is the guy with no ear pro, just holding his ears haha
Joseph9877@reddit
They actually got the 100 rounders to work!?
amir_azo@reddit
It overheats and doesn't shoot straight. I swear it was a manufactured argument to overthrow HK and get some kickback

Was this 205 from the production line, or part of the prototype/evaluation group?

MlackBesa@reddit
Very nice. Anyone have a precise date of when this video is from? Also it doesn’t seem that after cooling down, the gun reverted to its original rate of fire, did it? It sounds like throughout the meltdown the ROF accelerated, and even after cooling down, maintained a higher ROF. Could the gas port, subjected to intense heat, have eroded so fast that it became over-gassed?
whenwillthealtsstop@reddit
This was 2004
GiantNormalDwarf@reddit
It's number 205, so quite early.

Clean_Brush1041@reddit
When I went to H&K armorer course, we saw a video of an HK 21 burning down 2500 rounds belted and then popping a Schmitt and bender scope on it, sticking a 20 rounder in it, and shooting balloons at 500 yards
archer2500@reddit
The San Bernardino sheriff dept did a test like this with the POF-P415. They fired Thousands of rounds through the rifle, it was pretty insane what they did to that rifle, and it just kept running!

How long did it take them to find a guy who could look that bored while shooting a flaming assault rifle?
AyeBraine@reddit
Others say that the person is the lead designer of the rifle
Anaxamander57@reddit
I guess he just has confidence in his design.
AyeBraine@reddit
Exactly, yes, and very familiar. Don't mean it doesn't excite him, but still he knows the thing and how it fires like the back of his hand
richardhero@reddit
In Germany? Probably a solid 5 minutes.
HavelsRockJohnson@reddit
Gerhardt! Can you fire eintousand rounds for us?
Ja.
Prächtig!
AyeBraine@reddit
I always thought that accusation sounded ridiculous. It's one thing saying, for example, a car has bad QA and its differential shakes itself to pieces after 40 000 km. It's wholly another to blatantly say that the car's rear wheels tend to fall off if it rains.
Curabar@reddit
Im more impressed with those 100rnd c mags tbh, seems way more reliable than what people say about them on the internet
horseshoeprovodnikov@reddit
If you have them very clean with plenty of graphite flake lubricant, they do really well. They're finicky as fuck once they start getting dirty.
