What's with new Lidl loyalty scheme. Am I missing something..?
Posted by Low-Captain1721@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 183 comments
I started doing more of my shopping in Lidl last year as if you're selective some of the products decent value.
The Lidl app was a definite bonus.
However as of today the spending targets bonus's have disappeared and I now collect 1 point in every pound I think. I got a bonus 100 points & used 60 of them to get a pastry today.
Shouldn't someone tell Lidl that having to spend £60 to get a soggy pastry taking the piss...? I mean they're a convenient bite when free or cheap but..
Customers still get the ad-hoc vouchers too however looks like these will become few & far between.
I have a loyalty card membership of most high street supermarkets etc however in other cases you can just add to Google Wallet but Lidl needs it's own app which just isn't justified anymore.
I'm a big lad & I can take it - am I missing something? .. 😅
sharkkallis@reddit
Establish a scheme to get people in the shop until it becomes routine, then gradually reduce the benefits over time.
A story as old as time, sadly.
liltrex94@reddit
Co op used to give you points to spend which was a great incentive. They stopped it about 4 years ago
WhatCanIDoUFor@reddit
Is that why you have the option to print off the receipt and upload it to your account in the event you forget your card? Is there even any point to doing that now? I noticed they had a thing where they used to pay out money to their members in certain circumstances, does that still occur?
Or is it all about the member prices and personalised offers and you need to scan your code to get any of the benefits..?
liltrex94@reddit
Member prices, they don't even benefit me anymore except for buying milk where I can save 20p
theSituation39@reddit
I use the personalised offers to get a cheap meal deal once a week.
transfuse@reddit
Just got told today I had a few quid on my membership card and asked if I wanted to knock it off my shop. That was for central coop (yellow not blue) though. Nice surprise as like you I assumed it didn’t exist any more, but I’m sure it’ll disappear when they’re happy with their registration and usage numbers…
(I hate that there are two different coops, hate even more that one in my village is blue and one is yellow, hate most that the yellow one is called Central England Coop despite us being firmly in Yorkshire)
super_starmie@reddit
There's way more than just two co ops. Most regions have their own co op. I used to work for the East of England Co Op
mothsugar@reddit
Scotland has Scotmid which looks like a normal Co-Op until you realise the machine won't give you a discount on your meal deal.
WhiteDiamondK@reddit
Leicestershire here and we have three different co-ops, the two main ones being Blue and Green (no idea which co-op they are). I have the blue app and it annoys me it doesn’t work for member pricing in the Green co-op.
liltrex94@reddit
Damn. Very nice surprise
TheTackleZone@reddit
Tesco used to let you collect club card points on your mortgage payments when their bank started.
Mavericks7@reddit
Really? Was it a good number of points they gave (considering how much mortgages are)?
DetectiveVirtual9219@reddit
For me used to work out to be a week's shop every month.
Pews4eva@reddit
Which is roughly..?😅🙈
TeHNeutral@reddit
Around about not bad I'd guess
pervertsage@reddit
That feels fucking dystopian.
mattcannon2@reddit
Went this week and noticed they have way less "member price" items than a few months ago.
Iran war is clearly straining supermarket P&Ls
altopowder@reddit
Tbh this “member price” / “club card price” shite has to stop. I’m fine with it and can navigate it but seems unfair to elderly / less able / people who don’t want to sign up. Plus it clogs up the tills a bit more people faffing to find the cards.
B-e-a-utiful_day@reddit
Well it's just a data collection exercise, that's it. Your data or you pay more.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Not with me. I remember the same with Sainsbury's - I just went somewhere else. Mostly a Google wallet 'loyalty card' spread bet
WhiteDiamondK@reddit
I think Sainsbury’s now has the best loyalty scheme of them all. I use the personalised Nectar offers all the while and have a few other ways I collect Nectar points.
The new M&S program is awful.
mothsugar@reddit
I just converted a load of Nectar points into tons of Uber vouchers and felt less bad about getting lazy Ubers
Mavericks7@reddit
Good thing with Nectar (I'm sure others are the same) if you use the scan and go device (or your phone) the Nectar card is already scanned, saving you doing it at the end.
audigex@reddit
Clubcard does that too
audigex@reddit
Yeah I can't think of a supermarket that hasn't done this
ASDA Rewards was pretty good \~5 years ago, now it's basically not worth scanning the app
Tesco Clubcard is essentially now just a way to avoid them charging you a higher price for no fucking reason
Co-op ditched the points and is going the same way as Tesco with "Member prices"
Nectar used to be something where you'd deliberately go out of your way to find places to shop to acquire them, especially for petrol, but I couldn't even tell you where my card is
The result is that none of their "loyalty" schemes inspire any loyalty whatsoever in me. Other than the Nectar card I gave up on entirely, I just have them all on my phone and shop wherever's convenient
AlfaRomeoRacing@reddit
The asda app has started generating £5 off a £30 spend coupons for me recently, which is first time it has done anything useful in 3+ years
eyeoftheneedle1@reddit
This! I suggest as many people complaining to the customer service providing feedback. It may not make a difference but worth a try.

Careless_Soup_109@reddit
Jokes on them, I'll willingly bet that fewer people will scan the app nowadays
Chaosblast@reddit
Over time? You wish.
They reduced loyalty value 15-20x in a single change. No exaggeration. It's just an insult.
I love Lidl, and love lots of their products. I'd even recommend it to people. And even then, I'm feeling outraged as I'd like to stop shopping there.
cloud__19@reddit
I had a look in the rewards section and you need to spend £100 to get a free cucumber. How they can possibly say it's better, I do not know.
tmr89@reddit
Lidl is a bad supermarket, but Reddit won’t have that
aminbae@reddit
we have parking fine ninjas at mins
audigex@reddit
Yeah Aldi went from shit to good value if you pick the right items and accept that you have to go to one of the big 4 sometimes for branded stuff they don't stock
Lidl stayed shit
cloud__19@reddit
I haven't read all the comments but I don't see any at a glance that are supporting Lidl here.
Mariashax@reddit
Not worth using the app and providing your data to them for that exchange rate!
Mod74@reddit
Not to be a Lidl apologist, but these new points don't expire each month like the old scheme. As someone that would do one big(ish) food shop a month there (use Gousto) and will pick up Parkside gear every 3 or 4 months when they have something I want, I'd often find my rewards resetting without being used. And yes, I know letting them expire was on me.
Appropriate-Sea-65@reddit
You're likely still no better off though. What you could earn in 1 month now takes many more months depending on what you redeem it on.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Year - I'm usually more moderate with language however it's a total piss take tbh
Toocents@reddit
It's terrible. I have been driving to lidl, but now I'll walk to my local aldi to do my shopping.
Aldi's dairy based products are better too IMHO. Win win.
strum@reddit
I got into the habit of doing my major weekly shop on a Thursday, because there'd be new coupons (which I may or may not want). I got the occasional freebie (which I may or may not have wanted).
But I never believed that Lidl was a charity, or that they really cared about me. They're after my money, & it's my job to get the most (that I actually want) for my money.
It may take some time to re-organise my shopping to the new regime (& I've always shopped elsewhere when it suited me). Thing is, Lidl is 1/4 mile away, Asda 1/2 mile, Aldi 3/4 mile, Sains 1 mile. Guess which one I use most.
tom_watts@reddit
It’s basically 1% cashback now
CrumpledStar@reddit
Doubt it, the enshitification stage has been reached!
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
I'm deleting my Lidl app I think tbh..
rositree@reddit
You can just take a screenshot of your card QR code and still get the Lidl plus cheaper priced items if you don't want to bother with the whole app malarkey. Or share the screenshot around your household to save up points for Christmas time quicker than on your own.
It's obviously still a worse deal but no need to delete entirely and pay more for the same items. At least you can save the points up to spend when you want but that's the only advantage I can see.
BobKickflip@reddit
Does that work? I'm sure I've seen my QR code change while using the app
Jimmy_Quick@reddit
I printed out the Lidl QR code from my app, stuck it to a piece of card and have been using that when I shop there. Saves me a bit of faff at the checkout.
Longjumping-Age9023@reddit
I actually never thought of that! There’s definitely signal blockers in store so sometimes I can’t even get the app card to load. And I have great mobile data
WhiteDiamondK@reddit
Supermarkets don’t have signal blockers. Zero point to that. Lidl even has in store WiFi.
pervertsage@reddit
It most probably has a metal roof.
Skittlit@reddit
I haven't shopped in Lidl for months because the new Aldi is closer but I uninstalled today because I hope I've contributed to a meaningful number of other people who aren't happy with this
Illustrious-Plum1766@reddit
Deleted!
Plus_Pangolin_8924@reddit
Delete your Lidl account that will hit their metrics more. ;)
Kulawy-Jesiotr-653@reddit
Did that already xD wtf xD
Plus_Pangolin_8924@reddit
You need to delete your account. Deleting the app won’t show up on their stats.
LongsandsBeach@reddit
At least with the Apple Store, developers have access to a report showing deletions.
Whether they use that information is up to them.
Plus_Pangolin_8924@reddit
From a retention perspective account deletions sting much harder than someone deleting an app.
Namaste_Life@reddit
Use the tongs to select a pastry that isn't soggy.
hide_in_plain_sight_@reddit
Switched to Aldi years ago its better. Yes I know it doesn’t have a bakery but its all unhealthy stuff
so
Bristol666@reddit
They have decent frozen stuff. OK so you can't munch it on the way home but IMO they are nicer once you've baked them.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
I would but my nearest Aldi miles away
SerendipitousCrow@reddit
Same. Lidl is walking distance, Aldi I have to drive to
ANAL_PROLAPSE_KISSER@reddit
Head on over to r/lidl they are full on raging about it
KingAltair2255@reddit
No wonder tbf, just went and checked and its 500 points now to get a £5 off your shop - so I've got to spend £500 to get that now, fuck right off lol.
yearsofpractice@reddit
Holy shit. Nearly dropped my phone. It’s ALL kicking off over there.
AirplaineStuff102@reddit
ANAL PROLAPSE KISSER directing us to the drama.
yearsofpractice@reddit
Correct. If it had been ANAL PROLAPSE LICKER or ANAL PROLAPSE SNIFFER, no way would I have trusted them.
phatboi23@reddit
You weren't joking.
They're PISSED off haha
ldn-ldn@reddit
Not sure what your problem is. This new scheme effectively gives you a 1% cashback, instead of stupid games.
bacon_cake@reddit
I just wish all these places would cut the crap and offer their best price. It's infuriating having to juggle all this shit... loyalty cards, cashback credit cards, vouchers, clubcard prices.
ldn-ldn@reddit
They already offer you the best price. Supermarket profit margins are razor thin, to the point that British farmers are not paid enough. Food prices in the UK are criminally low.
bacon_cake@reddit
Thank you, I know all this. I also know that the costs of operating these schemes are not zero and I'd be happier knowing that prices are kept keener at the expense of not having a scheme.
ldn-ldn@reddit
You won't notice 1% price decrease. At least most people won't. I mean many here don't even understand that a new scheme is a cashback, lol. Sadly, most of customers are dumb and supermarkets know that and have to deal with that.
bacon_cake@reddit
Oh for sure, I know.
I probably wouldn't notice day to day either but I would absolutely prefer a retailer that says "our prices are 1% lower and we don't run any loyalty schemes".
But I think that's just the type of person I am - retail finance is my job. I know, as you do, that people much prefer big shiny coupons.
Romeo-McF@reddit
Yeah I get the rage at the scheme getting worse but it already feels kinda mad that a discount supermarket has a loyalty scheme.
Nobody mentioning that Clubcard is also 1% (2%/3% if you use them for not shopping) and that Nectar is only 0.5%
ldn-ldn@reddit
Is it getting worse? I've never used previous system as it was useless.
WhatCanIDoUFor@reddit
Good point, never thought about it that way.
Hope they still drop random vouchers and continue running the stupid games tbh (free bakery item/veg spin the wheel ones).
Mgtks@reddit
It's crap. Less than half as good as it was. Will be going to Aldi now apart from the occasional parkside find.
Maybe asda too as their rewards seems alright in the app
BillyJoeDubuluw@reddit
Most customers get comfortable.
They’ve reeled you in with the goodies and now you’re in the habit of shopping there.
Appropriate-Sea-65@reddit
Supermarkets are shifting more and more towards letting the customers do the hard work for them, Lidl is the latest to join that trend with the changes. Nowadays:
•You serve yourself (less wages for them to pay). What was once a paid job is now your problem.
•Self service machines; if you use cash it will give you the most amount of coins they can. 10p change? You bet you're going to get a few 1 & 2 pence coins in there because moving heavy coins and counting them costs supermarkets money... so they got the customers to take some of the strain off them.
•They raised the prices of everything to the point we're at now and put 'savings' on the stuff they need to shift. Check the yellow label/Clubcard discount prices in Tesco and compare it to B&M, Home Bargains etc. They're the same price. These false 'deals' are a way for Tesco etc to control their stock much more efficiently. If they need rid of it, it'll get a yellow label. It's dynamic pricing in a sense just it isn't so obvious.
As far as Lidl goes, the changes to their scheme is a huge change in direction similar to what Tesco are doing. Currently it's 2x bonus points on fruit because there's little shelf life on that. They want to cut down on wastage basically.
Before the changes I could spend £10 in Lidl per month and get a choco brownie as a reward. Now I need to spend £90 to get the same reward. It's a positive change for supermarkets and another kick in the balls for the customers unfortunately.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Personally it doesn't eat me up - I just think time to shop other places.
Poor quality is a massive issue for Lidl on many things & guy can get so much better for so little more money.
Economy_Survey_6560@reddit
aldi has none of this nonsense and is cheaper
SPYHAWX@reddit
Only reason I like going to Lidl is the international stuff, you can get fun meats and cheeses
spaceshipcommander@reddit
I had to go for a reluctant shop at Tesco today. Scanned my club card and saved exactly zero. They can't even be arsed to lie to me with outrageously inflated sticker prices anymore.
tmr89@reddit
It’s a myth the Clubcard prices are inflated. Can’t believe so many Redditors fall for it
spaceshipcommander@reddit
Of course they are inflated. It's a no strings attached "discount" that anyone can get. If most people are paying that "discounted" price then that's the price.
Grimdotdotdot@reddit
Do we really have to dig up the proof that Tesco (obviously) isn't breaking consumer protection laws yet again?
tmr89@reddit
I know, right
spaceshipcommander@reddit
Are you saying it's not illegal? Nobody claimed it's illegal to rip people off, it's just dishonest.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
I remember, I lived in Leicester & while ago with an Aldi on my doorstep. Was far better quality crap
Cakeo@reddit
Am I living in an alternate timeline? The produce in the aldi near me is rotten the day after you buy it.
mattjimf@reddit
I've never been impressed with Aldi whenever I've been in, plus they don't have a bakery (I don't use it all the time, but it's nice to have the option), maybe it's because I was used to Lidl.
damegloria@reddit
They used to have bakeries in Aldi. No idea why they got rid of them
WhiteDiamondK@reddit
Some still have them, very few though.
tmr89@reddit
Some Aldis have a bakery
tmr89@reddit
Same with Lidl
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
That's the same as Lidl. I would never buy fresh gear unless I was eating quickly
WiggyDiggyPooPoo@reddit
I switched to Aldi to a while back, I'll get some things from Lidl if they have an offer on it but Aldi is my main shop now.
WoolyCrafter@reddit
Apparently over 60% of the 'sweet treat' rewards were never collected. And how many people managed to use their 10% discount after spending £250 in a month? I loved the free veg, but the rest didn't work for me.
Lidl have said these points don't expire so you can save to pick your own rewards. That part of it works better for me, and a lot of people, but it still does mean we're potentially getting less.
cheltenhamcbt@reddit
Nothing to see here.
Move along please.
elmo_touches_me@reddit
You're spending £60 to get £60 worth of the shit you bought. The fact you get a free anything at all is a bonus.
You're not entitled to a free pastry because you spent money at the shop.
I say this as someone who does half their shopping at lidl and very much enjoys free baked goods. I am not entitled to any of it.
Does it suck that they're seemingly reducing the amount of free stuff you can get? Yes, of course.
Does that change anything for me? No. I was never entitled to it in the first place.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Of course you're not entitled to it, it's a discretionary bonus to attract your custom.
Unfortunately it no longer attracts mine, quality of products at Lidl can be very poor & the old loyalty app scheme was one of the few positives.
For the big positive quality difference there's other supermarkets who offer it for little more.
elementarydrw@reddit
It's a German company, not a British one.
I am living in Germany for several years for work, and have been here a couple of years already. In Germany, supermarkets are usually a similar size to Aldi and Lidl, and compete with eachother moreso than in the UK. Many Brits shop at a single, large (very in German standards) supermarket for almost their whole shop. Whereas Germans go to several, chasing down the best deals.
And because of that, almost all the shops in Germany have their own apps, with loyalty points that acrue. But it's not just the 1 point per quid - the point is to chase down the deals that gives the bonus points.
My wife and I got 200 euros worth of high end pans for free last month from points we accrued through several apps (that incidentally feed another separate app that collects additional points for certain shops.)
WhiteDiamondK@reddit
I shop across Aldi, Lidl, Sainsburys and Waitrose with the occasional visit to Tesco and very rare visit to Asda.
Not only chasing deals but some shops are just better at different things.
elementarydrw@reddit
Exactly this! This is how we shop now too - but only because the German system forced us. As you said, some shops are way better at the same stuff. We will bring it back to home when we return too.
IdioticMutterings@reddit
The only reason left for me to shop at Lidl, instead of the Aldi thats much closer to me, are their cheese and chive waffle style crisps.

No_Chemist2922@reddit
It's complete garbage now the points system that is, but Lidl is still Lidl with their piss poor yet dirt cheap products. Aldi, arguably Lidl's competitor in terms of prices alone, never had a rewards system to begin with.
Just treat it as if Lidl has scrapped their reward systems... it's the best way to cope
bezero21@reddit
I thought the same. Talking as a Lidl customer in Portugal they also switched to that system where every 1€ spent gives you this ridiculous Lidl coin in the app which then you can use to exchange for products in the supermarket. Meaning it comes to a point where you are spending tons of money to only get a drink or a loaf of bread. Previously they were offering products and also discount vouchers which you now can also get but for example to get a 5€ voucher you gotta spend like 500€ which makes it utterly ridiculous and nonsense. This points are available for 2 years and after that they expire so dunno… seems to me that it was a wrong move on their side. This way customers feel ripped and that you gotta spend to earn so that’s make it friendly
autobulb@reddit
The enshittification™ is constant and unrelenting.
discokidnap_@reddit
Yes it’s rubbish but not that much more rubbish compared to the old scheme: Spend £20(?) to get a free pastry, then get a free single fruit or vegetable (that has to have the exact product code as on the coupon, which will inevitably not be available in your local store). Then after that it’s just 15% coupons for something you don’t want or don’t need.
Cakeo@reddit
Free veg otherwise known as a massive bag of tatties. Literally all the veg you could pick would be covered. You don't need to lie to make it seem shite now.
discokidnap_@reddit
I never got the option of an entire bag of potatoes, maybe that was when you hit a higher target. It was always a single piece of fruit or veg as the second reward. I planned to get a banana once but none of the ones in stock matched the product code on the coupon.
ThomasEichorst@reddit
The biggest bag of potatoes qualified for that (the single fruit or veg tier), as did the big punnets of berries. In the small print of the coupons it had a huge list of everything that qualified
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
I see the point however it was 10 or 15 to get a pastry I think. 50 to get bag of tomatoes which weren't bad.
The 15 percent off coupons were pretty tight however always targeted on things I actually did buy.
Now it's just completely shite.
HighAbilityLoser@reddit
The 15% off coupons haven't changed.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Yeah - still tight
PM_ME_VEG_PICS@reddit
It was £10 to get the sweet treat in the most recent version (used to be £25 and you got any bakery item) and the free veg offer was basically on any fruit and veg item in the shop, the list was massive.
Longjumping-Age9023@reddit
Does anyone else find it hard to log into the Lidl app when at the checkout too? It’s like they have a signal blocker for mobile data. So 6/10 I can’t get the card to load
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
I had to give it 3 goes today when I was paying for my 60 point pastry. They can F right off with these new offers - deleted app
thesyldon@reddit
I avoid shops with these schemes like its a plague. Aldi doesn't use this - go there.
Ffilib@reddit
I'm disappointed too, but I think the scheme is aimed at people like me who would use the app for the first £10 to get the pastry and then not use it for the rest of the month.
This forces me to use it constantly.
I think it will take me 2 months to get enough points to get the pastry now, which is a bit annoying. Overall looking at the deal it seems uou essentially get 1% "cashback" on your Lidl purchase.
There seems to be bonus points for fruits and veg, so it will be interesting to see how this works.
I don't buy fot a second that this was built based on customer feedback, but simply on the principle that they need to implement a recurring incentive to use of the app.
FabulousEnglishman@reddit
Aye, most supermarket schemes are lacking what they used to.
My nearest supermarket is Morrisons and their 10 points per item is poor value when it takes 5000 points to unlock a £5 discount.
Yes, they have boosters but they're often out of sync with other offers. This is particularly common with Uncle Ben's or Tilda rice. They'll give me the booster but stop their discount offer on those products within a week making the consumer choose between the best value and their boosters.
Tesco seems to have the most logical system for value and price discounts and that's still worse than it used to be.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
The best ones on a relative scale used to be Boots & Sainsbury's but both seriously been eroded.
I don't think any of them worthwhile and very little point as most people just stash them all on Google wallet etc & shops anywhere without shaping habits.
FabulousEnglishman@reddit
I have found Tesco clubcard useful given the extent of the discounts sometimes. The partners programme is also handy. You can get the equivalent value of 3 times your clubcard points discounted at Zizzi's for example.
From my own experience Morrisons, Asda, and now Lidl are pretty pointless
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
They're all pretty pointless tbh. I only use my local Tesco for basics as it's convenient & I get a £1.50 voucher about every 3 months. Tesco Express so expensive in first place - cheers Tesco....
butterypowered@reddit
This has happened because finally, after about ten years of hope, Lidl are finally building a store in my town.
So of course it has to turn shite just before it opens.
Sorry.
Kulawy-Jesiotr-653@reddit
Always like that. They build the first decent skatepark in my town when I left, hey! They even host proper concerts now :P
ElizabethHiems@reddit
I never joined the scheme. They don’t collect details of my shopping habits to benefit me. It only seems like a good idea.
CandidLiterature@reddit
Unless you pay in cash, they absolutely are profiling you as a customer though… Just you’re also paying more than you need to.
LateToTheParty013@reddit
I didnt follow closely from the start but the 10% off after the £250 spend was smth that kept us doing the big shoppings there. Now I ll go and shop at Aldi, fck 'em
Kulawy-Jesiotr-653@reddit
At some point it became 200, then simple calculations switched me to the nearby ASDA (+fuel) I buy generic food , and not much but still spend less now.
For cleaning products, Lidl is fine and I don't need their app ;)
MultiMidden@reddit
Hadn't noticed that, shame as their monthly rewards in the early days used to be really good, £x off your shopping sort of thing. I suspect I'm not the only one who'd look for the most expensive freebie, a £4 bag of potatoes for free was a cracking deal.
For me they finally went down the pan when they got rid of hand baskets for those pull along ones, pretty much switched to Aldi who are closer and offer a choice in baskets. The only thing that keeps me visiting Lidl is their Italian, Spanish, Greek etc. week but Aldi have stared doing that as well.
Raclette2018@reddit

Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Yes but you'd still need the Lidl app to choose your rewards now
ben_jamin_h@reddit
Oh right. How do you choose reward with the others? I've literally just got them all set up in my wallet last week after never using them because I could never find them...
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
You don't choose reward with most other supermarket apps. The points on your receipt & money off when you reach a certain threshold usually.
Nectar do both but cash off & rewards but you can use web

Morrisons' loyalty program is still pretty solid. I can easily get a fiver off like twice a month. Used to get a free coffee from their cafe sometimes, but they haven't put out those vouchers in a while sadly
CatFoodBeerAndGlue@reddit
Do you do your weekly shop there?
I only really go for beer and the odd bits I can't get at Aldi, and I think I've had one fiver back in the 6 or 7 years I've had the loyalty card.
No-Door-3181@reddit
Yeah I live very close by. The annoying thing is they have some good deals on the app you have to remember to manually turn on - but it’s quite easy to accumulate points like that. I just did a shop where I got 3000 points with 2 of those deals, and it’s only 5000 to get a fiver off.
ImmediatePiano6690@reddit
Still not as good as it used to be, mind you it went really bad at 1 point and has improved in recent months.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Little Waitrose hot for me. Free cafe Nero quality coffee everyday if you want. 5 mins walk from work too
FunnyVehicle7664@reddit
Dunno about points, all I know is sometimes they give me free stuff. Maybe to get me to go back.
Pitiful_Oven_3425@reddit
Not anymore
FunnyVehicle7664@reddit
Oh they must have changed since last week. Glad I got some freebies before they ended it
chez2202@reddit
I was thinking the same at first.
But the new scheme gives double points on fruit and vegetables for the next couple of weeks and it says that there will be other bonuses and bonuses on things that you regularly purchase.
It also says that the points are valid for 2 years. All previous bonuses were valid for 7 days. You can collect points throughout the year, still get money off vouchers and get offers which reflect your personal shopping choices.
The previous scheme gave you a bakery item, a cleaning item and a chocolate bar, with 10% off your next shop if you spent £150 in a month there. The 10% was only of any value if it was a big shop within 7 days.
I considered all of this when I found out about it 2 hours ago. I’m going to watch what happens over the next few months and see if the extra points offers actually reflect the things I buy regularly or if they are generic things.
The change won’t stop me from shopping there as it’s still better value than most supermarkets. You will still have the regular 15% off coupons each week. I’ll be interested to see if the offers of extra points actually do reflect my usual purchases though.
PM_ME_VEG_PICS@reddit
You had to spend £250 a month! Something a lot of us don't ever do!
chez2202@reddit
You’re right! It was £250! Collecting points over a 2 year period should be better for people who weren’t spending £250.
strange-goose147@reddit
Asda’s is utterly useless. The coupons are never for things I might buy and I haven’t added much if anything to my cash pot in months. And it means going in Asda which is a terribly depressing experience
LordSolstice@reddit
The Asda one used to be the best loyalty scheme around. You got a pretty damn good deal on the moneyback, and then you used to get special buys, extra points etc. ontop of that.
I racked up quite a substantial amount of money on that and even got a few free shops out of it. But now they've scaled it back to the point it's useless.
AgileSloth9@reddit
Could be worse.... could be morrisons.
Theirs takes months to save up enough to get a fiver off.
Nublett9001@reddit
It's because the new CEO doesn't like reward cards and just think they should have low prices with no gimmicks.
lovesorangesoda636@reddit
Weirdly the asda one works really well for me! Very rarely use the coupons but I've got about £50 in the cashpot and that's with me having used some this year
bawjaws2000@reddit
I used to like it for its simplicity. Spend money and make money in your cashpot. Buy some bonus money items if you want. I wondered why my cashpot had barely moved in months and found out they stopped giving cashpot money from spending money in their shops and its now turned into easily the worst supermarket app. It was blatantly an information grab and now they've probably sold off all your info, there's nothing left for them to gain; and hence the rugpull.
badger906@reddit
No more 10% off once a month for me then!
North_Still_2234@reddit
They want your data and you give it to them
RogerMcCreight@reddit
Became too popular thank to the cost of living crisis. When they were considered the poor mans choice they had to give better offers.
On another note, I added my loyalty card to Google Wallet, I think I had to do it manually though.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Even if you could add the card to Wallets you'd still need Lidl app to choose & spend - a bit of a suck in tactic
RogerMcCreight@reddit
I've always hated their app, it seems like a huge waste of time and effort for nothing.
MixAway@reddit
Feels that people became too dependent on it, and now feel personally attacked that it’s changed!
Ok737468383838@reddit
I think it's more how they framed the change. "We've listened to you" nonsense. Obviously they don't owe you anything and you're free to use other sonermarkets. But come on, enough with that shite.
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Steady on... Just passing constructive comment 😃
will8981@reddit
I somehow won a lidl bakery gold card on the app - any item from the bakery free once per day for a year - so I am loyal up until that runs out
HolyTesticleToosday@reddit
Yep… shopped there for years as it’s equidistant to Tesco, slightly less choice but the deals made the difference. deleting the app
Low-Captain1721@reddit (OP)
Yep. Back to Tesco for me
Madwikinger@reddit
Couple of years ago it was 5£ off for spending 100£ and 10£ off when you spent 200£. Then they got rid of the fiver and upped the limit to 250£ to get 10% off. And it's been shit since.
