never heard of lambda tesseract as a language either. your girlfriend might have been mixing up lambda functions from functional programming with the tesseract ocr library or something else entirely. did she mention where she heard about it

I'm not sure about "lambda tesseract", but the "lambda cube" is a concept in type theory.

The "cube" refers to three "dimensions" of expressiveness that a type system might possess. These are:

Type Operators: types can be defined by referring to other types. An example might be List<T> representing a list containing elements of arbitrary type T.
Polymorphism: terms can be defined by referring to types. An example might be a function append<T>(List<T>, T).
Dependent Types: Types can be defined by referring to terms. This is a pretty rare property in programming languages, so it's hard to come up with a stock example, but you might imagine a list whose length is encoded as part of its type: a List<T, 5>, for example might be a list with 5 elements. List sizes are usually only known at runtime, of course, but that's what's cool about dependent types: you can refer to the runtime value from the type definition.

The lambda tesseract might be an extension of the lambda cube, adding another dimension of expressivity. Or it might just be a joke. Not sure.

There’s a bunch of super niche languages/projects so I can’t say with 100% certainty that a language called lambda tesseract doesn’t exist, but its definitely not something in common use or that I’ve ever heard of in the context of programming.

“Lambda” is commonly used in various programming languages to mean an anonymous function.

The only time I’ve heard of tesseract in this context is referring to tesseract OCR, which is an open source tool from Google that can convert images of text to computer readable text, plus some other closely related features.

Yeah, that's the only combination of these terms that makes any sense to me: the Tesseract OCR engine running in an AWS Lambda. I could imagine somebody misunderstanding a phrase like "it was built with tesseract and lambda" as referring to a programming language, but Tesseract is a library and AWS Lambda is an execution environment.

Yep ! Lambda is a real concept in programming (like anonymous functions), and tesseract is more of a math/geometry term.

Where did she hear it from? Might just be someone mixing terms or referring to something else.
