Birthday in Ghana, what should I do?

I’m currently in Ghana with my cohort from Tetr College of Business, and my birthday is coming up soon. Since I’m not from here, I don’t want to just do the usual dinner + cake thing, feels like a waste when I’m literally in a new country.
So I’m looking for ideas that feel local / memorable, not touristy-for-the-sake-of-it.
Open to anything…
If you’ve been to Ghana (or live here), what would you do if it was your birthday here?

I don't think your birthday is entirely relevant in this context, you're just looking to have a cool day. Perhaps ask in a Ghanaian subreddit instead of this general one. Having said that, I would consider going to a bar and telling some people it's my birthday and treat them to a couple rounds. Sounds like a nice foot in the door to be accepted to their group (for at least one night and perhaps leading to friendship).
Happy birthday!

You're in luck - Ghanaians take birthdays seriously!
The "usual dinner thing" will usually be quite a treat at upscale restaurants due to the staff's celebration of your birthday (if you/your crew let them know)!
Other ideas: a night tour (there are some focused on food, some focused on drinks/clubs) could be an interesting, safe and efficient way to experience Accra in a celebratory manner, a day tour with friends somewhere close by (think Shai Hills, Boti Falls, or Bojo beach, depending on your mood).
Lastly, if you're more into unique hands-on experiences, think about a chocolate making/tasting course (we're in the cocoa capital after all!) or learn how to make Ghana jollof.
Mema wo awoda pa (Happy birthday)! 🎂
