Would this be classed as a near miss ?

No. Go watch the Phoenix area airspace south of PHX sometime and prepare to be shocked.

the helicopter was ahead and a whole lot faster, so no.

Can’t see on fr but I watched the helicopter catch up and pass. It passed pretty much over the top but with a couple of hundred ft separation.

My guess is reduced minimal separation bc the helicopter has the plane in sight while over taking. The plane knows the helicopter is passing above it and is going to hold altitude. Once the helicopter passes the speed differences keep them safe.

BTW I just watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZLXMKMgnS8 where a Cessna 120 that was attempting to go-around crashed due to helicopter wake turbulence.
