Article about Honda not updating their cars because they have no money and r/cars is like “good job guys keep up the good work” but if it was a Nissan or a Dodge article comments would all be “just kill them all already they’re trash”
UmaThurmish@reddit
there is a reason Honda is hardly selling anything outside the U.S, two decades of boomers telling their kids to buy Honda/Toyota had made Honda extremely lacking, they are coasting. Toyota had some enthusiasts up top but Honda full on bean counter mode.
Comfortable-Army-107@reddit
true. toyota is very popular around the world. honda is not even is the same level.
KingMario05@reddit
This is key. It wasn't enough for the Toyodas to lock in the boring market anymore, especially after the acceleration scandals. Akio-san saw Ford Europe making bank with driver's cars people could afford, deciding to join in... and stuck with it even after Dearborn bailed. Today, a Camry still isn't a BMW. But it, and its RAV4/Corolla/Lexus/truck siblings, are a hell of a lot more interesting than what they were. And interesting moves units.
Honda had that, once. And then they just... gave up.
UmaThurmish@reddit
my parents owned mostly Hondas, honestly while drivetrain and all are reliable, the sensors and electronics fail a lot and cost a ton to fix. the toyota they had was never sent to repairs and works just fine.
KingMario05@reddit
Really? Huh, never knew that.
UmaThurmish@reddit
maybe bad luck but they had two hondas that had big electronics issues, the corolla never had issues tho.
am not a honda fan, i think their cars look boring, built cheap and don't offer much of any advantage over others.
SwiftCEO@reddit
Why one has the reputation for building high quality vehicles?
Comfortable-Army-107@reddit
toyota?
ImHealingU@reddit
Reputation has nothing to do with blowing money on evs nobody would have ever wanted and then letting your already ancient products exist unupdated for even longer because you’re flat broke
PolarWater@reddit
But it does have a lot to do with getting money from customers.
SwiftCEO@reddit
I’m pointing out why the reactions differ so much.
Chuckwp@reddit
I know there is a general positivity for Honda here, but this thread does not support your comment.

Ziakel@reddit
Give the Odessusy a refresh Honda. Keep the v6 but update the outdated interior. Stop being stingy on tech.
Comfortable-Army-107@reddit
no. hybird i4 better.
KingMario05@reddit
Also: Bring back V6 Accord pls
Ziakel@reddit
The V6 with 6spd combo was niceeee.
Even the 2.0t manual was also niceee.
No more fun Accord from Honda anymore. Just Civic or step it up to Acura
plaugedoctrwithradar@reddit
It’s because of emissions. Honda can’t even sell the type R in several European countries anymore because it “doesn’t pass emissions”.
UnnamedStaplesDrone@reddit
Smh freakin gas guzzling polluting ass Honda civics.
plaugedoctrwithradar@reddit
Ikr. Idk why every single country’s emissions laws universally fuck over actual cars. Current CAFE standards make it so that really small cars have impossible to meet mpg targets, for example… something Honda fit sized needs to get 60+mpg to be considered emissions compliant, or else a manufacturer will need to over achieve elsewhere to compensate for it. It’s even worse in Europe.
New_Armadillo_5139@reddit
The current government changed the standards to make kei cars and other small cars adhere to actually reasonable emissions standards and all the redditors were screaming about "gas guzzling polluting V8s killing us" and what not
WhateverItTakes117@reddit
I had a 2013 accord V6, 6 speed. It genuinely drove beautifully. Fast enough to be fun and wind out the gears. Not really fast enough to get you into trouble, unless you're being dumb.
I'm torn on the 2.0t. The 6 speed sounds like it might be fun. But the auto is a 10 speed that is supposed to be quite a bit quicker. Not sure which I'd get. They both sound good.
But I can't imagine the 2.0t feeling more fun than the v6 with a manual was. It also sounded great.
byteminer@reddit
I had the 2.0t with the 10 speed. My wife can’t drive stick so it was a compromise.
That car was fantastic.
FordFalcon@reddit
Why'd you get rid of it?
byteminer@reddit
I needed a truck. I do a lot of woodworking and shoving lumber up my Honda’s ass wasn’t fair to it or my back.
absolute_imperial@reddit
I don't see how a V6 Accord competes in the modern market. Buyers want sedans for efficiency, especially with where gas prices will be for the foreseeable future. A V6 accord with an 8 speed or 10 speed auto will get half the MPG of the Camry, and wont have the versatility of a CR-V.
jimmyvee11@reddit
That's okay because we want a 6-speed manual V6 Coupe.
TalbotFarwell@reddit
As long as it gets 30 MPG highway, that’s fine enough for me.
KingMario05@reddit
Yes, but you fail to consider:
Me want one.
Same with a V6 Camry.
ManufacturerBest2758@reddit
Literally never going to happen
KingMario05@reddit
But it should. :(
TheReaperSovereign@reddit
I would like to see Honda pair their hybrid system with the v6. That thing gets pitiful mpg.
absolute_imperial@reddit
Honda's hybrid system has the engine function only as a generator for the electric battery and motors unless the car is at highway speeds. I don't see how a V6 would improve their current hybrid system unless they redesigned it to allow for the engine to propel the car at lower speeds as well similar to the Toyota hybrid system. And the larger engine would reduce efficiency.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
Confirmed by Honda:
https://global.honda/en/newsroom/news/2025/4251106eng.html
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
The V6 would just be providing more power and arguably better nvh. I'm pretty sure using the latest J series with their hybrid system was already in their presser on the next gen system.
ManufacturerBest2758@reddit
A V6 series hybrid doesn’t make much sense
KingMario05@reddit
Yes! Would massively improve the power, too.
Ileana_llama@reddit
honda is alergic to anything not fwd
TheMuffnMan@reddit
So not really. There are more AWD models than FWD.
wtfthisisntreddit@reddit
Platform wise those are still fwd based. Honda just doesn't do rwd and longitudinal engines (anymore)
Privateer_Lev_Arris@reddit
"The goalposts, they are here now."
ManufacturerBest2758@reddit
Open up the engine bay in all of those and tell me which direction the engine faces
TheMuffnMan@reddit
"Allergic to FWD"
"YEAH BUT NOT THAT AWD"
???
Honda/Acura system has decent reviews, no? Honda with a slightly detuned Acura setup on the main models.
20LettersIsTooDamnSh@reddit
And make an Acura version
testthrowawayzz@reddit
Odyssey needed a hybrid option like yesterday
aprtur@reddit
Illogical me wants Honda to stop screwing around and bring this to the US with the current 2.0T stuffed under the hood with about 280hp/280lbft - easy to accomplish detuning from the Type R 315/310, and would give it more power than the current V6.
olmoscd@reddit
sienna owner here. if they made a Oddyssey with the CTR motor i’m buying immediately.
had the 2.0T 10-spd accord touring and it was one of my favorite sedans ever
iPhone3G_Speed@reddit
Mind you the current gen odyssey came out in 2018
Wizard-In-Disguise@reddit
looks like Honda Element needs to make a comeback
willpc14@reddit
Didn't those sell terrible? They were aimed at recent college grads who hadn't started families yet, but none of them had the money to buy a new vehicle. Those people are now the young families buying Passport Trailsports and printing money for Honda.
pdp10@reddit
I wouldn't have ever considered an Element, until I had one as a rental to move some gear, and the practicality stood out immediately.
Heavy-Procedure2232@reddit
This has been my take since the suv/crossover boom. Make it a PHEV, hybrid, whatever but something attractive and good value.
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
Honda can actually make the most of this in a good way.
For example, the current Accord can be updated with the latest screens to appear fresher than it is while retaining the buttons it has. The styling can be largely pulled from its Inspire cousin sold in other markets like China, again making it look updated when it's really not. Finally and most importantly, the hybrid variant needs to spread throughout the lineup so that like the Camry you can get huge mileage rating for under 30K (right now you're not far off of 34K to get into the cheapest Accord hybrid). Unlike the Camry, the gas-only engine could be offered to keep a lower price of entry and more deeply undercut Toyota's pricing model. Top it off with maybe something headline-friendly like a Sport Touring, Type-SH or whatever that brings back the 2.0T for a high-output option that can help position the Accord as a bit cooler and sportier than a conventional family sedan, an image shift these few remaining sedans need.
xemnas103@reddit
Still seems crazy to hear how Honda is struggling while Hyundai/Kia seems to be thriving.
DaBanninator@reddit
Honda really fucked themselves by surendering the EV market.
Sea_Perspective6891@reddit
Yeah, they had an amazing opportunity to try & make an affordable EV Civic & CRV or something similar but decided to waste time money & effort on the Afeela which was too expensive even for most upper middle class families. The Prologue was almost a step in the right direction but they messed up on that one by not marketing it very well & bad value pricing.
CaptaineJack@reddit
They don’t even make affordable gas cars and you want them to make affordable EVs?
vw18t@reddit
Nissan Leaf and Bolt are both affordable EVs basically what an EV Civic would be and no one is buying them in the US.
WhateverItTakes117@reddit
Buying a prologue on the used market is an absolutely insane value. I'm eyeballing them for when my lease is up next year.
Sea_Perspective6891@reddit
Definitely better than buying it at new prices from what I hear. I know a guy who got one for $35k & it had a few thousand miles on it. Decent EV just not worth what they are asking for it at dealerships.
w3stvirginia@reddit
Yep. I love my Hondas. I had a civic for 10 years and still own a Ridgeline. I would have loved to have been able to get a Civic EV when getting rid of the old Civic. But I wanted to go EV for my daily, and they had no options in the small EV category. I ended up with a Bolt—which is also a very good car.
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit
I do love myself a good Honda Odysset
Scary_One_2452@reddit
Right being the Toyota Siennt
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit
They fixed it lol.
botany_bae@reddit
Fixed whadt?
PolarWater@reddit
I don'tt knot
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit
In the article subheading, it said "Odysset"
aprtur@reddit
To pair with the ubiquitous Miat for weekends.
Konrad62@reddit
This says nothing about Civic, weren’t we supposed to get a new one for MY2027 with next gen hybrid system? If so why would Honda agree to this article, it obviously is controlled leak to let the core customer know and let them down gently.
flurry--@reddit
If the Integra isn't changing then I doubt the Civic will
KSoMA@reddit
ILX wasn't updated for 10th gen Civic so it's not impossible to imagine.
PNF2187@reddit
It may be a bit longer than that. There were reports a year back that said that production for the next Civic was originally planned to start in Mexico in late 2027, but then the plans got shifted to it being to a mid 2028 start in Indiana, which would have pushed it from a 2028 to a likely 2029 model. Doesn't seem to be delayed as much as the other models mentioned, so they probably want to keep the Civic and CR-V somewhat on track since those are their two most important models.
paladinx17@reddit
Death rattles unfortunately… I love Honda, built the absolute best vehicles for years. But now they are just slowly dying because they can’t adapt to the future fast enough. Sad to watch!
s3cf_@reddit
honda is a dying brand.
no halo car, the luxury arm is irrelevant.
behind in EV and hybrid
what is honda known for nowadays?
FeedbackLoopy@reddit
Do a AWD CTR you cowards.
HeadOfMax@reddit
Make a utilitarian suv ala Honda element that's hybrid and AWD. Tech heavy but not luxury.
Alternatively a smaller than the Ridgeline hybrid pickup.
redsolitary@reddit
Good. I think this is good practice. I have the last year of the previous Passport model and the last year of the V6 Accord. Honda spends years tweaking their designs and buying at the end of the model lifecycle usually means getting the best version.
kyonkun_denwa@reddit
I don't think this is good practice when the Odyssey comes dead last among minivans in crash tests, and other minivans are already not scoring well.
PabloIceCreamBar@reddit
I mean that’s the case with the vast majority of OEMs. GM is notorious for getting the last model year right and then bringing out a new heap of junk to fix over 6-8 years.
Privateer_Lev_Arris@reddit
That's honestly not such a bad thing. Sometimes it seems things are changed just for the sake of change, not necessarily because it's better.
I just read an article the other day indicating that Dodge Durango sales are up because precisely because it uses old and familiar tech. The new Mazda CX-5 is getting slogged in reviews and by customers because the touchscreen is so difficult to use compared to its predecessor's tactile controls.
Honda has a solid lineup of vehicles to get it through this difficult time period and for customers it will be a blessing in disguise because they won't be subjected to shitty unproven tech for a change. Personally I'm tired being a beta tester for useless new tech. I just want a car that works.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit
I mean that’s fine to keep costs down, but they also need to think of ways to get sales up as well in the short term. Having an Integra and ADX with a hybrid offering is one such way they can increase sales.
Especially the ADX being offered in hybrid form would be a huge boost.
just_an_avg_dev@reddit
I switched to Honda after owning so many different brands. Honda is SO GOOD. The build quality in US plants is the only thing that is a hit or miss for me.
I've watched so many reviews before picking up the Pilot and it doesn't win anything. However, for me it is the best car in class for the money. When I was shopping my top trim pilot was $6k cheaper than the Palisade. MSRP is close but my Honda dealer offered better financing and better pricing.
The Pilot drives so good. The steering is well tuned. The handling is good for how comfortable it is. Things just work very well. There are no gimmicks. There is SO MUCH STORAGE. The V6 sounds so good.
I am tired of reviewers. The only reviewer I like is Autofugehl, but he is in Germany, so doesn't review much of NA cars. Car Care Nut is decent too but he sometimes is misinformed and glazes Toyota.
Also, I hate when KIA/Hyundai shit out new design every 2-3 years. I want slow evolution. I actually like that Tesla is basically making the same cars but with incremental improvements. Even though I dislike the brand.
ZetaM3@reddit
They don’t have a choice.
KingMario05@reddit
Honda: the new Dodge.
~~Run. /s~~
mr_bots@reddit
I’d rather a model go through another refresh or two versus getting redesigned and cheapened out especially since vehicles usually get refined and issues corrected with each refresh.
