Why are you celebrating Trump bringing back Biden gas prices? I thought Biden gas prices were bad? Biden handed Trump low and stable gas prices, and they stayed low and stable until Trump's war, more than a year after Trump's inauguration. Now the nation has higher unemployment, higher inflation, and way higher gas prices. All Trump had to do was just leave the economy running as it was, he didn't have to wreck it like a gold-seeking petulant child.
Now compare that inflation-adjusted cost to minimum wage, since it's people at the bottom of the income scales that are most disproportionately affected by high fuel costs. This is made worse by the fact that poorer people tend to drive cheaper cars that get worse gas mileage and tend to drive further because where they can afford to live is generally further away from jobs.
The hypocrisy is the current president saying, in no uncertain terms, that isolationism is the way to solve these things, and that his democratic opponents would start a ~~war~~ conflict in Iran.
Like Iâm sorry but no matter what side you sit on in politics, your current president straight up lied to you about what he would do. And youâre more concerned about both-sides-ing it than that.
Okay, sure, but WHY were gas prices that high? From what I can see looking it up, the 2022 gas prices surged due to Russiaâs war on Ukraine and strained demand post-lockdowns. Both of which had zero to do with direct decisions Biden made.
Whereas now, gas prices are skyrocketing directly due to Bibi and Trumps illegal war in Iran.
False equivalence is the only argument the right has to defend this nonesense.
Both of which had zero to do with direct decisions Biden made.

You paying an extra $20 a month on gas isn't more important than innocent people dying in the streets or threats to YOUR existence; sorry to disappoint!
Simple explanation for your simple mind:
If you (or your daughter) are at a concert and get murdered, thrown into the back of a truck while the people that murdered you spit on and beat your lifeless body while parading it through the streets- I would not defend the people that killed you.
Make sense?
My portfolio performed its best under Trump. Iâll take this temporary pain compared to 4 years of what ever that was in the previous presidency, if you can call it that.
Except we wouldn't be in a war. And the Strait of Hormuz wouldn't be blockaded. And the world's supply of oil would be 20% higher so the price would be lower. And the price of gas would be lower.
Gas was 4.80+ in 2022; oil is a commodity that fluctuates regardless of politics.
Yes- war bad, but someone needs to address 20k+ innocent civilians being killed in the streets, embassies being attacked & nuclear weapons being developed by terrorists.
You would have a different viewpoint if:
-you knew anyone living in Iran under this power
-actually cared about your life, safety, and the life & safety of those around you

I suggest you do your research & stop blaming a singular president for your lack of knowledge in open source geopolitics & commodities.

I'm a big fan of Karl Polanyi's theories. To him, land is a "fictitious commodity," meaning it isn't produced for consumption but capitalists will commodify it as such, which leads to "social dislocation" and "environmental degradation" as the market doesn't account for these things. Here's a good synthesis of his work:
When land is treated as a commodity, it is subject to market forces that prioritize profit over social and environmental considerations, with profound impacts on society and the environment. Socially, it leads to the displacement of communities and the loss of traditional livelihoods. As land prices rise, marginalized groups are forced to relocate, disrupting social networks and cultural practices. This displacement exacerbates social inequalities and contributes to urban sprawl and the fragmentation of communities.
In the built environment, commodification treats housing more as an investment than a basic human need, driving speculation and price inflation and producing housing crises characterized by rising homelessness and housing insecurity. The unentitled are disproportionately affected, leading to increased social inequality and the erosion of community bonds. The commodification of housing undermines the social fabric of communities, shifting focus from creating livable, cohesive neighborhoods to maximizing returns on investment.
This is why I finally went electric. Every few years thereâs always some stupid thing that spikes gas prices like Ukraine or Iran and unlike gas prices, electric prices are way more stable.
The USA is already the largest exporter of oil on the planet, and has been since 2019. The Keystone XL pipeline would not have moved a single gallon of US crude, nor would any of the oil moved through it have been used to produce gasoline for the US domestic market. That pipeline would only serve Canadian tar sands oil companies, and that's it. Once it arrived in the gulf it would be loaded on ships owned by other countries and taken away. The US would assume all the risk of pipeline spills and security, but Canada would get all the profits. You and me would get nothing.
Lmao you really keep spreading that bullshit that a PROPOSED keystone pipeline being cancelled is in the same conversation as Ukraine and Iran. If the shutdown was so significant, how come gas prices were low in 2024 until the war in Iran despite the pipeline never coming back? How come Trump's keystone light initiative is still seeing gas at $4?
Bro is still using reeeee in the big 2026 đ 2016 /pol/ called they have some tendies they want to share with your lame ass. Go be a groyped up somewhere else while 16 year olds automate your job with Claude code đ
Lmao what facts? That the oil pipeline closing had little impact on gas prices? That Biden's gas prices were caused by a war he didn't start whereas Trump's gas prices were caused by him and Israel?
People understood that the gas prices were caused because of the wars. One side didn't start the war, the other side started the war. I blame Putin, Trump, and Nehanyathu.
People say and debate a lot of things. What evidence have YOU seen that seems compelling? I think it's damning that Ukraine's defense fund is being fully funded by all our NATO allies and Europe and yet we stopped funding that. I think it's even more baffling that despite being an ally of Iran, Russia had sanctions released and has profited $10 billion in a month because of the war in Iran.
You suggesting the Biden could prevent the war yet not talking about who is currently in office doing nothing to help Ukraine and is actually helping our enemy proves that you weren't interested in honest discourse.
If only there was a diplomatic agreement in place that could curtail Iran's enrichment in exchange for economic sanctions. Maybe we could hold regular inspections through the IAEA to keep them accountable rather than going through all this dangerous and expensive war stuff.
There is and was. Iran cheated and lied which was fine for Obama, Biden and the EU pussies. Thankfully Trump called them out on the BS and took care of the problem before they made half our planet uninhabitable.
JCPOA was agreed to under Obama in '15, and then Trump was elected and assumed the presidency in '17. After that, the Trump administration granted several waivers in favor of sanctions relief for Iran's adherence to the JCPOA until abandoning the deal in '18.
To his fault, Biden failed to bring Tehran back to the table, but not for lack of trying--flipping the chess board over in the middle of a match can cause some trust issues--so Iran pursued what it thought was best for its national security. Here's a pretty graph of the stockpile data.
To this day, there has been no direct action between nuclear powers. There have been peripheral and indirect conflicts, but one perspective in International Relations seems consistent: the possession of nuclear weapons is an effective way to ensure state sovereignty and security. If you look out at the world in conflict today, you'll see nuclear powers beating up on non-nuclear powers. Russia against Ukraine, US and Israel vs Iran, China and Taiwan, and US and Venezuela ("Cuba's next!").
So if I'm Iran, and I'm looking back at the long history of US intervention in my own affairs, I'm thinking a nuclear weapon might keep them away. But American's don't see it that way because we're not taught that history.
There were several factors that occurred that were not under Biden's control. One being the war in Ukraine. Things that were under his control was the first day executive order that stopped the construction of the Keystone Pipeline. That one order led to the loss of 15,000 jobs in one day. Biden insulting the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, calling him a "pariah" but then coming to him, asking for additional oil output, which the Crown Prince refused. Other issues that were under his control would be the the over regulatory burdens of drilling, the shutdown of new exploration of oil. Making the building of new oil refineries impossible with over regulation. Another thing that was under Biden's control was implementing banking policies and regulations aimed at steering capital away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy. I hope that may have helped answer your question.
Sure, but to add some context: the Keystone pipeline had been the subject of many lawsuits, standoffs, protests, and activism since it was announced in 2008, and Biden relented against the will of the people. Plus, it was a win for the nation's first Native American Secretary of the Interior, Deb Halaand.
And don't forget that MBS had Jamal Kashoggi assassinated. Like, strangled him, chopped him up into pieces, and carried his body in trash bags out of the front door of the embassy in Turkey. When presented the CIA's and Turkey's intelligence assessment detailing as much, Trump blew them off and expressed his support for MBS.
And regulating refineries and championing green energy is something that we should all be doing. It's not just a moral cause, but it's our own health.
But yes, you are right--prices are still below Biden's high-water mark. But the trend is not looking good, and with no coherent strategy in the Strait of Hormuz (which throttles roughly 34% of the world's petroleum exports, compared to Russia's contribution of 18%), things can get dire really, really quick.
You are someone that I can talk to, and who looks at the bigger picture. Not just "orange man bad" Energy use is something that can vary between countries and regions of the world depending on what resources they have available. I support the use of green energies, and the private sector will as well, when it becomes economically feasible. These new energies and technologies will have to become self-sufficient, and not rely on the tax subsidies. I've noticed that after 20 yrs, many of the wind farms in Texas are starting to get torn down because they are too expensive and lost those subsidies.
Yea, but the whole "economically feasible" part is ever-evasive. A lot of start up companies in the green space aren't willing to spend the capital on risky ventures, which is where the government comes in to mitigate. They've done the same thing for every industry: oil, banking, insurance, medicine, academia, retail--you name it, and the US government has subsidized it. I mentioned the theories of Karl Polanyi in another comment in this thread: there's no such thing as a "free market." Even laissez-faire economics of the 17th-early 19th century required government policy and investment for its existence.
Take science as a recent example: the defunding and de-facto elimination of the National Science Foundation and the firing of its board has left the advancement of American science in a precarious situation. Essentially, they do the critical groundwork that lays the foundations upon which new advancements can be made by identifying and subsidizing the very risky, early steps of development-- like providing grants for university scientists to search for an effective vaccine against an elusive virus. Because the virus is little-known, no real profit can be realized for some time, therefore no private company would be willing to spend that capital for something that may not return a profit for 20, 30 years.
And that's true for green energy development, too. Just because something is unable to turn a profit does not mean it is not a net-positive for society, it just means it's a net-negative for capitalism. Which, in my opinion, profit should not be the measure of success for things and services that provide a social good. Can we lower the cancer rates in Corpus Christi through stricter regulation? Yes. Will it cost Exxon-Mobile a few million? Probably. But will fewer families be subject to the crushing weight of medical debt, or be affected by all of the downstream costs of losing a parent? Those are the questions we should be asking.
I hear you.....I've had the pleasure of dealing with paying $300,000 of medial debt for my daughter. Many years of working 70-80 hour work weeks to get that debt paid off. I agree that our system isn't perfect, but I don't think a Socialistic system is the answer. I'm just some poor guy just trying like everyone else is. Working to put a roof over my head and my family, and paying my taxes.
That is the subject of much debate. Mostly because of the Ukrainian War. It is a hotly contested issue whether US policies at the time could have prevented the Ukraine Invasion.
In Jan-2021, just prior to Biden taking over, the average gallon of gas in the US was $2.42. In June 2022, the average was $5.11. At this time, today, the price is $3.92. That isn't a lie, that is a fact. Look it up for yourself.

noncongruent@reddit
The irony, it burns.
imissher4ever@reddit
I keep forgetting that Reddit literally hates facts. That why my comment was downvoted so much.
Hereâs another fact that will get downvoted. Fuel has been much higher in the past many times when you factor in inflation.
Inflation Adjusted Gasoline Prices
1918 $5.41
1934 $4.63
1938 $4.64
1981 $4.85
2008 $4.89
2012 $5.06
2022 $4.25
noncongruent@reddit
Now compare that inflation-adjusted cost to minimum wage, since it's people at the bottom of the income scales that are most disproportionately affected by high fuel costs. This is made worse by the fact that poorer people tend to drive cheaper cars that get worse gas mileage and tend to drive further because where they can afford to live is generally further away from jobs.

ArtisticComplaint3@reddit
This is why I finally went electric. Every few years thereâs always some stupid thing that spikes gas prices like Ukraine or Iran and unlike gas prices, electric prices are way more stable.
imissher4ever@reddit
Or shutting down pipelines.
noncongruent@reddit
The USA is already the largest exporter of oil on the planet, and has been since 2019. The Keystone XL pipeline would not have moved a single gallon of US crude, nor would any of the oil moved through it have been used to produce gasoline for the US domestic market. That pipeline would only serve Canadian tar sands oil companies, and that's it. Once it arrived in the gulf it would be loaded on ships owned by other countries and taken away. The US would assume all the risk of pipeline spills and security, but Canada would get all the profits. You and me would get nothing.
kitsunegoon@reddit
Lmao you really keep spreading that bullshit that a PROPOSED keystone pipeline being cancelled is in the same conversation as Ukraine and Iran. If the shutdown was so significant, how come gas prices were low in 2024 until the war in Iran despite the pipeline never coming back? How come Trump's keystone light initiative is still seeing gas at $4?

Lmao what facts? That the oil pipeline closing had little impact on gas prices? That Biden's gas prices were caused by a war he didn't start whereas Trump's gas prices were caused by him and Israel?
imissher4ever@reddit
The facts that the people complaining now (like the people on the bridge) didnât complain then. And the people not complaining now complained then.
Their political party loyalty has them blinded.
kitsunegoon@reddit
People understood that the gas prices were caused because of the wars. One side didn't start the war, the other side started the war. I blame Putin, Trump, and Nehanyathu.
imissher4ever@reddit
There is intense debate that Biden could have prevented the invasion of Ukraine.
Some people debate that his policies are indirectly related to the invasion.
kitsunegoon@reddit
People say and debate a lot of things. What evidence have YOU seen that seems compelling? I think it's damning that Ukraine's defense fund is being fully funded by all our NATO allies and Europe and yet we stopped funding that. I think it's even more baffling that despite being an ally of Iran, Russia had sanctions released and has profited $10 billion in a month because of the war in Iran.
You suggesting the Biden could prevent the war yet not talking about who is currently in office doing nothing to help Ukraine and is actually helping our enemy proves that you weren't interested in honest discourse.

kyle_irl@reddit
Right? Totally agree.
If only there was a diplomatic agreement in place that could curtail Iran's enrichment in exchange for economic sanctions. Maybe we could hold regular inspections through the IAEA to keep them accountable rather than going through all this dangerous and expensive war stuff.
andrew972@reddit
There is and was. Iran cheated and lied which was fine for Obama, Biden and the EU pussies. Thankfully Trump called them out on the BS and took care of the problem before they made half our planet uninhabitable.
kyle_irl@reddit
I think you may have a few dates mixed up:
Snobolski@reddit
They're a sovereign nation - why do those people on that bridge get any say in what Iran does?
kitsunegoon@reddit
What were their enrichment levels under Obama's deal? What were the enrichment levels after Trump struck the deal down?

kyle_irl@reddit
Why were they so high under Biden?
RabbitGlass5578@reddit
I hope that may have helped answer your question.
kyle_irl@reddit
RabbitGlass5578@reddit
You are someone that I can talk to, and who looks at the bigger picture. Not just "orange man bad" Energy use is something that can vary between countries and regions of the world depending on what resources they have available. I support the use of green energies, and the private sector will as well, when it becomes economically feasible. These new energies and technologies will have to become self-sufficient, and not rely on the tax subsidies. I've noticed that after 20 yrs, many of the wind farms in Texas are starting to get torn down because they are too expensive and lost those subsidies.
kyle_irl@reddit
RabbitGlass5578@reddit
I hear you.....I've had the pleasure of dealing with paying $300,000 of medial debt for my daughter. Many years of working 70-80 hour work weeks to get that debt paid off. I agree that our system isn't perfect, but I don't think a Socialistic system is the answer. I'm just some poor guy just trying like everyone else is. Working to put a roof over my head and my family, and paying my taxes.

That is the subject of much debate. Mostly because of the Ukrainian War. It is a hotly contested issue whether US policies at the time could have prevented the Ukraine Invasion.
RabbitGlass5578@reddit
In Jan-2021, just prior to Biden taking over, the average gallon of gas in the US was $2.42. In June 2022, the average was $5.11. At this time, today, the price is $3.92. That isn't a lie, that is a fact. Look it up for yourself.
