The Romanian government collapses after losing a no confidence vote. What does this mean for Romania, the rest of the Balkans, and the EU?

since Romania decided to cancel its own elections and shut the word of the people, its no longer democracy, its nicusor dan autocracy, so i dont care what happens to it
Usernamenotta@reddit
For Romania: It means we are economically and financially ducked.
For Balkans: If your currency is EURO, you might find some cheap travels to Romania in the following months.
For EU; nothing changes much
Lotofagos_@reddit
how can i become a financial duck? đŚ

exactly like this, but the opposite đ¤Ş

well replace the "d" with and "f" and you'll see how "ducked" we are these days
chbb@reddit
This is reddit, you can say "fucked" :)
Usernamenotta@reddit
Depends on the sub
LucasSkywalker89@reddit
With or without Bolojan, we are still ducked. Nobody in the EU has a good life right now and in a few months we are very ducked because our friends from across the Atlantic thought it will be nice to screw us again. We don't need enemies when we have friends like the USA.
Leather-Card-3000@reddit
We all know what it will mean for us, PNL doing a "compromise" to "save" this "country" alongside PSD in a "stable" coalition, what do you think else?

Just please tell me AUR doesnât have a chance of getting into power
cryptme@reddit
They just got to the table. Until now they were outsiders. From now, they play is the big league, god save us.
Senior_Strawberry_51@reddit
Fellow romanians, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! Iâm actually terrified of Simion, he looks like a psychopath.
cryptme@reddit
The problem politically is very distant for the majority of the voters. They vote as if it for the favorite show or football club. No connection between the vote and the consequences. Unfortunately it will be very-very bad before it can get any better. Ăradjon itt is!
Firm-Juggernaut8002@reddit
In the USA itâs the same (if you couldnât tell). Iâm curious how much suffering is necessary to change this, in the USA itâs unclear if we will ever reach that threshold of suffering
cryptme@reddit
I donât think there is a limit. Just look at North Korea, sometimes even famine canât trigger a regime change. Itâs more about the context of the right type of leader and a critical mass. All the changes happen âaroundâ somebody.
Firm-Juggernaut8002@reddit
I agree, another example is the criminal Hoxha in Albania that made the place a 4th world country. Dies of old age

You need a Peter Român

Petre Roman was actually the first prime minister of Romania in 1989

Romania is kinda fucked but i didn't use any lube yet and it's gonna hurt
MinimumArt8781@reddit
It means we no longer have a government, it was expected that a coalition with the devil (PSD "Social Democrats") would never work.
Bitedamnn@reddit
When will Romanians stop voting PSD
MinimumArt8781@reddit
When the entire generation of those that lived under communism , dies!
No-Championship-4632@reddit
Our PSD (BSP) is dead already. Didn't make it to the parliament.
MinimumArt8781@reddit
Ours isn't, because they pretended to be loyal "pro-europeans"
No-Championship-4632@reddit
Ours went all-in Putin with right-wing policies at some point, guess that's why fell out I guess.
MartinBP@reddit
The only right-wing policy they had was the flat tax rate which was introduced when they still declared themselves openly pro-EU and Europe was still doing business with Russia.
They've been completely consistent with the eastern left-wing since then. LGBTQ issues don't determine whether you're left-wing, most left-wing parties globally are identical to BSP and PSD.
No-Championship-4632@reddit
If you have a look at the program they had prior to the 2024 elections (when they formed a coallition with centre-right GERB), they had:
* Tax reforms, introducing progressive taxation -no changes, the flat income/corporate tax remained
* Healthcare - they wanted increased healthcare budget to cover for complete coverage of medications of people 0-16 and 75+ by the ĐĐĐĐ. They also wanted a heavier regulation on opening new private hospitals and wanted a reform where government/municipal hospitals are not registered as companies anymore. None of that happened as well, they soon forgot about it.
* Social policy - the same amount of payment for young mothers for the first and the optional second year. Increase of the one-time payments for parents. Soon forgot about that, none of that happened too.
* Economy - they were raving about price ceiling for basic goods. Immediately forgot about that once in power despite the mad inflation at the time.
This is a pattern they follow every time they cling to power. Even funnier is they have (had) a significant representation of those Plovdiv "socialists" around the oligarch Gergov who is trying to privatize stuff like the Plovdiv fair. They never even claimed a position on that issue unlike (weird enough) PPDB for example.
Being conservative rather than liberal or being Putin bootlickers is nothing compared to the listed above, they are a quasi-left party, their marketing is left, but they are actually right.
AndryCake@reddit
Don't worry, then they will vote AUR.
MinimumArt8781@reddit
No, stupid people will vote AUR, the old communists still vote for PSD, it's literally in every single electoral statistics
AndryCake@reddit
Yeah I don't disagree with that. I just wanted to clarify that if people stop voting for PSD things won't automatically get better (arguably they could get worse since at least PSD isn't anti-EU).
MinimumArt8781@reddit
Are you sure about that? I'm not even sure what is worse between the two, these corrupt imbeciles or those psychotic extremist rats
FakeGreatness@reddit
They're both as evil.
AndryCake@reddit
I mean you can never be sure with these people...
darkname324@reddit
this wont solve anything, until tiktok exists, and uneducated people who can be manipulated, aur and psd will continue to destroy every progress
demanemotus@reddit
We're already starting to drop the votes for PSD. PSD dropped from the 1st to the 4th place in the polls.
We've started voting the far-right AUR which is made mostly by PSD ex members and which positioned themselves as "anti-system" (complete lie).
The government collapsed with the efforts of both PSD and AUR though.
Thrilalia@reddit
Damn, that sounds like Reform in the UK. Claims Anti-system, is far-right, blames a lot of the problems on the Tory government (ok this part is true), yet is mostly made up of former Tory MPs, some of which were in the major cabinet positions of power while in the Tory party
Potential-Wish8608@reddit
All these far right political parties are identical. Same âideologyâ, same bullshit âsovereigntyâ, same conspiracy theories, same lies, same sources of fundingâŚ.itâs such a coincidence
MartinBP@reddit
Well no. The ones in Western Europe are usually economical right-wing. The ones in Eastern Europe are usually economically left-wing.
hrafnagudr@reddit
What ia the parlament configuration?
demanemotus@reddit
Ăntrebi care e structura Parlamentului (Senat, camera deputaČilor, membrii etc) sau câte mandate are fiecare partid?
hrafnagudr@reddit
I'm trying to (subtly) point out that PSD still has the most seats in both Rooms of Parliament. Yes they are tanking in general polls, but when it comes to parliamentary elections they end up in first place. We all know that people tend to brush aside the parliamentary elections, yet we have this child-like perception that shit will change because of who is president.
Dear-Ad1582@reddit
They are getting less and less votes with each cycle... Bad news is that the idiots voting them went for AUR oportunist.
Dear-Ad1582@reddit
Nevaaaaaaaa'!!!
SkirtProfessional845@reddit
when our whole country will get educated besides Cluj Napoca and Bucharest. until then, people will still vote the same characters.
most of the romanians dont even know that the parliament holds most of the power. they are thinking that the presidents holds it.
education budget has been cut severely. so probably never.
as of now only thing that will change something in the country will be the federalization of Europe
Substantial_Lie1798@reddit
The rats coalition
Ujemegaz@reddit
We have a givernment with extended majority, and we suck. Better not have a government at all, i think.
Dear-Ad1582@reddit
Ah... The Belgian way...
MartinBP@reddit
*Bulgarian way
blewpblewps@reddit
Curious, is a Bulgarian scenario possible in Romania? Like what we had for the last few years - elections every few months?
Dear-Ad1582@reddit
Nope. We can't have early elections unless special conditions occurs. New PM proposal by President don't get confidence vote in parliament 2 times, then he will call early election.. And none of the parliament grifters will do that since they have no confidence they will be on the candidates lists. Or they will all resign at once and hope to get elected..
MartinBP@reddit
I mean, technically same thing with us. Once one government falls, the party gets another mandate to form a new cabinet. If that fails, the next biggest party gets it. If they fail, a third one gets it, and if the also fail (basically guaranteed), we go to elections.
This process failed 7 times in a row (the first one didn't count because it was a regular election, not a snap one).
PsychologicalAir7850@reddit
It means that PSD controls everything and nothing will ever be reformed. Rampant corruption as usual from now on.
So there is absolutely no hope for us to ever have a decent standard of living.
ModeloTime69@reddit
It's sad that i keep hearing similar stuff from everbody else these days(Turks, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, Russians, Serbs... ). Still hoping for a better future for the young people though :/
Valik93@reddit
Young people don't vote. Young people don't vote. Young people don't vote.
They also don't care and would rather gtfo to another european country.
MartinBP@reddit
Young people had a higher turnout than the general population in Bulgaria's 2024 elections (no data on the last ones). Bulgarian youth were also instrumental in toppling our last government.
Means fuck all when young people are 12% of the population while pensioners are over 30%.
oyMarcel@reddit
So more of the same?
asidealex@reddit
It means the chances of an extremist government have grown. The President won't name an extremist Prime Minister, but his popularity sank dramatically after he signed all proposals for the next Chiefs of the highest law enforcement agencies just recently. His chances of not surviving a popular vote grew.
So potentially, under certain circumstances, EU might find itself with a new pro Russian far right extremist government that vetoes upcoming EU policy.
Maczok4@reddit
Could you explain what happened? I thought that Nicusor Dan was meant to save Romania after fighting with corruption in Bucharest. I didn't know that there were some problems with him.
FakeGreatness@reddit
Nicusor played too much of a political game instead of the populist game and now it backfires. All the decisions he had made directly impacted his popularity. Let us not forget that the âpro europeanâ side does not have an idol of any sort compared to the russian side so because of that people are more critical of their leaders. Nicusor fumbled, now in the pro european side people started believing that heâs ok with the gov shutdown because he feared the PM was getting more popular than him but i donât think thatâs true.
FakeGreatness@reddit
I mean that's Russia's plan, replace the puppet with another puppet. Too bad it's us this time. Let's all wecome the dark ages.
fatgirlcuddler@reddit
whole of romanian reddit just fuckin exploded dawg there are oceans of blood dawg the danube is fuckin backin up dawg
Adept-One-4632@reddit
It means more depression
positive-Radish-69@reddit
It means that the red mafia (PSD) will take back more power than ever, either with their mates (PNL) or their more extremist mates (AUR).
And if the same number of idiots continue to vote with the extremist mates, prepare for a wave of Romanians seeking a normal life in your beautiful countries.
Timely_Fee4348@reddit
Another great victory⌠for coruption!
Nice-Ad8877@reddit
It means that the red rats (PSD - the social democrats) will make a coalition with the extremists (AUR), and 1 euro will be 6-7 RON

Yes but minimum wage by law which a lot of people have is 2550 lei\~ 490eur today. If euro goes to 7 lei it will mean 365 euro. Not even Albania has salary that low.
