Unfortunately the (currently leaving) minister decided that his ministry should be moved into the building that gave home to the Museum of Military History. So, the museum doesn't currently have any buildings. As a temporary solution, they installed a small military exhibition in the builing called Bálna, close to the Market Hall in Fővám tér. A few other ideas: on top of Gellért Hill, visit the former fortress called Citadella (see citadella.hu for details) - closest bus stop: bus 27 "Búsuló Juhász". And the fortifications of Komárom from the 19th century may also be interesting for you, if you can afford a one day excursion from Budapest.

The situation have already described: the (currently outgoing) Minister of War had it closed to move his own office in the building. The museum has not been reopened since, and there are no concrete plans for it. There are still a few military technology exhibitions in the country, but none of them in the capital and they mainly display equipment from World War II and the Cold War:
- Pintér Művek Haditechnikai Park (Kecel)
- Haditechnikai Park (Komárom)
- Rakétabázis Zsámbék (Zsámbék)
are still worth visiting.

I'd add RepTár Aviation Museum in Szolnok to the list.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to. Without going into political details, the apparatchick who has been the Minister of defense in the last term thought it was a good idea to move into the museum as his offices, and promptly booted the exhibition out. Right now it's packed up in a warehouse with no place to go.

the Orbán government has shut down a large number of museums; the collection of the Military History Museum is scattered here and there, with no building of its own (just as, for example, the Museum of Applied Arts is also closed, and the Museum of Transport is only operating in a temporary setup at the moment).

Never. It used to be in the Castle but Orbán wanted the building so it was kicked out. You can find some items in Bálna, close to Fővám tér
